Dear Judged
Agreed to FebruaryI had an interview with a law firm last week. The question came up if I
was a lawyer and passed the Bar in February. I don’t know why on
this earth I lied, because I had passed it in July but I agreed to
February. I knew I was just panicky and said it with no real intention of
lying. Do you think its possible now to go and tell them the truth? Do
you think they’ll believe me?

Dear ploppielaw,
I’m not even going
to broach the topic of the reasoning behind your lie, because it’s
beyond my realm of understanding. However, I would say that it’s
better that you come out with the truth now as opposed to potentially
letting them discover it on their own. I would mention it nonchalantly,
like an, “oh by the way” type of thing; like you thought about
it after the interview and realized that you mistakenly said February. I
wouldn’t suggest knocking on the partner’s door and saying,
“I accidentally lied in our interview”. I’m
going to guess that wouldn’t go over so well.
