Dear Judged
Dissatisfied lawyerI am working as an associate at one of the biggest firms in New York. When
I entered the place everything seemed great. But as the days seem pass, I
realized that I am working from 8 am to 8 pm. Do you think discussing it
with the partners will make a difference? Or should I shut up and
work…..:(

Dear Doppiedaps,
I think you’ve already answered your question—and you should
have known the answer before you started working. Long hours is part of the
deal of working Biglaw, especially in New York—every associate
expects it…or at least they should. The idea of discussing this with
the partners is laughable—that is, unless you’re trying to get
yourself blackballed at the firm. In simpler terms, no, I wouldn’t
suggest to try talking about this with them. You have two options: if you
want to keep your job, shut up and work. If you want to mouth off, do it as
your handing in your resignation letter.
