Dear Judged
Looking for good firm to workI am on the look out for a good legal firm to work with. There are so many
out here. Can you tell me which of the options would be the right choice
for getting me into the one that’s best for me?
a) A
recruiter
b) A mentor
c) Both
d) Or just do it on my own

Dear creativejunk,
Are you ready? The answer is very simple: all of the above. If you are
really serious about finding the right job, its best to use every option
you have available. A good recruiter is helpful because they are very
familiar with the market and know what firms are hiring—and what
firms you would be a good fit at. If you’re lucky enough to have
one, mentors are beneficial because they know you personally and are often
willing to call in personal favors to help you get your foot in the door
somewhere. Additionally, they can offer you honest advice—something
that is hard to come by in the legal profession (outside of this column, of
course)! And if you’re looking for a position, you should always
being doing a lot “on your own”: searching legal job boards,
calling up friends from law school to see if they know of any openings,
contacting alumni, etc. Good luck!
