Mr. Proto, a partner in Schnader’s Washington, D.C. office, has 35 years of practice in land use, environmental and federal litigation as an attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice and in private practice. In addition, Mr. Proto is an affiliate professor at Georgetown University's Public Policy Institute, where he has taught on environmental values, energy choices, and urban policy and sprawl. “Neil has devoted a significant amount of time, effort, and expertise to issues near and dear to FERI,” said Chairman Ralph Wellington. “His career exemplifies the highest standards of professional integrity and dedication, and a strong and continuous commitment to progressive and humane ideals and activities. I can’t think of better fit for this board than Neil.”

FERI administers and supports a variety of programs that celebrate the ideals and achievements of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. FERI also provides oversight for the Roosevelt Institution, a nationally organized think tank of students based in Washington, D.C. Mr. Proto will serve on the Board Committee that oversees the Roosevelt Institution’s work.

“It is a special responsibility; to preserve the integrity of the Roosevelt tradition and to give it continued and, no doubt, vigorous life through the thinking and actions of students in the Roosevelt Institution. I look forward to it,” Proto said.

Husch & Eppenberger and the St. Louis County Bar Association Host Loyola Academy Students
Husch & Eppenberger, LLC and the St. Louis County Bar Association are proud to sponsor an exciting opportunity for eighth grade students from Loyola Academy. The event is facilitated by the Clayton Chamber of Commerce, which is committed to sponsoring programs that sustain the quality of life in Clayton and throughout the St. Louis area.

On July 26, 2007, fifteen Loyola Academy students will tour the St. Louis Courthouse and then visit Husch & Eppenberger's offices in Clayton. Organized by the Bar Association, the tour of the Courthouse will provide the students an opportunity to meet with judges, prosecuting attorneys, and police officers. At Husch & Eppenberger, the students will learn, through informal discussions and personal conversations, how and why the attorneys pursued their legal careers. The purpose of the program is to provide the students exposure to some of the opportunities that will be available to them as they continue their education and work to achieve the school's goal; to end the cycle of poverty through education.

Loyola Academy is a Jesuit middle school for boys in grades 6 through 8, with a maximum of 20 students per grade. The school's mission is to serve boys who have the potential for college preparatory work, but who are in danger of failing to achieve that potential because of poverty, residence in distressed neighborhoods, or other social or economic factors.

Husch & Eppenberger is a nationally ranked law firm with approximately 300 attorneys in seven cities across the Midwest and Mid-South. For eighty-five years, Husch & Eppenberger has served local, regional, national, and international businesses; financial institutions; charitable and governmental organizations; and individuals in sophisticated litigation and business representation.

Husch & Eppenberger's primary practice areas are general business litigation, product liability, land use and development, tax and estate planning, and corporate and financial transactions. The firm also offers specialized legal expertise in labor and employment, construction, environmental and regulatory, health law, insolvency, intellectual property and technology, franchise law, and international law.

In June 2007, The American Lawyer named us as the 175th largest firm in the nation, based on 2006 gross revenues. In November 2006, The National Law Journal ranked us as the 132nd largest firm in the country in terms of number of lawyers. These rankings are the result of the firm's commitment to growth and expansion in the Midwest and Mid-South, and its service to litigation and transactional clients nationwide.

Husch & Eppenberger has offices in St. Louis, Kansas City, Jefferson City, and Springfield, Missouri; Peoria, Illinois; and Chattanooga and Memphis, Tennessee.

Jack Greiner Testifies Before House Committee on Privacy Issues
Graydon Head & Ritchey LLP partner, John C. Greiner, testified before the State of Ohio House Committee on Juvenile & Family Law arguing for more public access to foster care records.

The focus of the testimony was related to releasing names in the case of 3-year-old Marcus Fiesel, who died in August 2006 when his foster parents tied him up and left him in a closet. Liz and David Carroll Jr. were later convicted of his murder. There is currently a proposed House amendment that would release the names and other details about foster parents only after their license is revoked.

“The public came to know Marcus’ foster parents only when it was too late to raise concerns about their fitness,’’ Greiner testified. “And what the public learned made all of us question why that boy was placed in that house. It is important to remember that Marcus Fiesel died not because the public knew too much about his situation, but because the public knew too little.”

Greiner practices in the areas of commercial litigation, with a focus on media and First Amendment law, and employment law. He has handled dozens of First Amendment cases and helped establish precedent-setting case law requiring that records be available to the public. Greiner earned his B.A., cum laude, in Political Science/Economics from Miami University and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame.

ADB's General Counsel, Arthur Mitchell, To Join White & Case
Arthur M. Mitchell, the General Counsel of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), will join White & Case as Senior Counselor in early September, 2007.

With over thirty years' business experience, much of it in Asia, Mr. Mitchell is considered to be one of the leading American lawyers specializing in trade, investment and financing transactions in the region. Mr. Mitchell's experience includes being the founder and CEO of a New York-based investment consulting firm, which launched the first hedge fund ever offered in Japan. Mr. Mitchell's private law practice prior to joining ADB in 2003 included many years as head of the Asian practice groups at two major Wall Street law firms, where he focused on a wide variety of financial and corporate transactions.

"I am very excited at the prospect of re-entering private practice, and thrilled with the Asia and global platform that White & Case's preeminent project, infrastructure, bank finance and bank regulatory practices offer," said Mr. Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell, who reads and writes Japanese fluently, will have a regional focus at White & Case and will be based in Tokyo.

"As Japan has now emerged from its decade of minimal growth, and Japanese businesses integrate with the global economy, this is ideal timing for a person with the experience and vision of Arthur Mitchell to join our Tokyo team," said Robert Grondine, a senior partner of White & Case based in Tokyo, who is in charge of White & Case's Asian M&A practice. "Arthur's ability to combine an intimate knowledge of the dynamics of Asian infrastructure and bank finance development gained at ADB, with the trust gained through many years of working with governments, as well as international and Japanese financial institutions in the region and globally will prove an invaluable addition to our Asian capability," Mr. Grondine said.

"Arthur will certainly enhance our leading M&A, finance and funds teams in Tokyo and regionally for foreign private equity and strategic investors coming to Japan and Japanese venturing outward into new investments," said Mr. Grondine. "This is a team at White & Case which understands client objectives and can place their aspirations into definable and reachable business goals in the global, regional and Japanese contexts."

Mr. Mitchell earned a Bachelor of Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley and a JD from Harvard Law School. Arthur Mitchell joins White & Case on September 3, 2007.

ADB, based in Manila, is dedicated to reducing poverty in the Asia and Pacific region through pro-poor sustainable economic growth, social development, and good governance. Established in 1966, it is owned by 67 members — 48 from the region. In 2006, it approved loans and grants for projects totaling $8.5 billion, and technical assistance amounting to almost $242 million.
