Stinson and Blumenfeld combine forces in St. Louis


St. Louis-based Blumenfeld Kaplan & Sandweiss tied the knot with Stinson Morrison Hecker, LLP, on July 1. The union will see in a combined force of more than 65 lawyers, 13 paralegals, and 47 staff members in Stinson Morrison's St. Louis office. The new firm will be called Stinson Morrison Hecker, LLP.

Stinson's 360 attorneys in nine offices throughout five states represent clients in a full range of corporate, transaction, and litigation matters. The firm, which started operations in 1878, deals in real estate law, mergers & acquisitions, labor & employment, business litigation, financial services, healthcare, sports law, and products liability. On the other hand, Blumenfeld, Kaplan & Sandweiss, founded in 1950, looks after real estate, tax, estate planning, succession planning, mergers and acquisitions, immigration, labor and employment, intellectual property, and litigation for its clients. John Moticka, St. Louis co-managing partner stated the firms hope to leverage on "this strong foundation to help clients in St. Louis and throughout the country achieve their goals."

105 DLA Piper attorneys get Chambers' rankings; firm launches Poland office


DLA Piper attorneys have made the firm proud. As many as 105 top-notch lawyers of the firm have made it to the ranks of the fifth annual Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business publication. The firm has also been named as a leader in business law, the climb since last year marks nearly 46% which saw only 72 lawyers.

Additionally, three more of the firm's practice groups are ranked in the top tier, up from 11 groups last year to 14 this year. The rankings are based on extensive research conducted by Chambers and Partners Legal Publishers. DLA Piper has 3,400 lawyers globally in 25 countries and 63 offices practicing in corporate, finance, human resources, litigation, and real estate, among many others.

Meanwhile in another move, the firm has appointed three Polish partners to lead its new office in Warsaw. Two of the new hires, Krzysztof Wiater and Pawel Grzejszczak, join DLA Piper from Squire, Sanders & Dempsey's Warsaw office. Michal Zieniewski, the third partner, will join DLA Piper from the Warsaw office of CMS Cameron McKenna.

Florida Default Law Group renews partnership with Learn.com

Lewis and Roca merges with old Nevada firm


Phoenix-based law firm Lewis and Roca, LLP, with offices in Nevada, New Mexico, and Arizona, has merged with Beckley Singleton, one of the oldest law firms in Nevada. The 170-attorney firm clubs in the lawyers of Beckley Singleton, making Lewis and Roca one of the biggest law firms in the state.

Beckley Singleton's 15 shareholders have joined Lewis and Roca as partners, two lawyers as of counsel, and the rest 17 lawyers as associates. Serving in the Las Vegas and Reno metro areas, all the 34 attorneys of Beckley Singleton have an expertise in business law and litigation. The merger will be effective from August 1, carrying out practice under the name of Lewis and Roca. Beckley Singleton's skills in gaming law and bankruptcy will be an added advantage to Lewis and Roca.

Nelson Levine buys Querrey & Harrow


Law firm Nelson Levine de Luca & Horst has obtained the eight-attorney NY office of Querrey & Harrow. Nelson Levine's NY office, that serves a wide range of insurance industry clientele, has added three partners from Chicago-based Querrey & Harrow.

George Vogrin, a Querrey partner, will hold the post of managing partner in the NY office. Representing London-based insurers and reinsurers, Vogrin presently works with the Lloyds of London as coordinating counsel to underwriters. With offices in Cherry Hill and Newark, NJ; Columbus, OH; and Philadelphia, Nelson Levin has acquired a new office at Blue Bell headquarters that can accommodate 70 lawyers. The Querrey group's experience in reinsurance litigation and complex insurance will assist Nelson Levine in serving the European insurance market.

Sedgwick signs a merger with a real estate boutique


Sedgwick Detert Moran & Arnold, LLP, has merged with San Francisco-based real estate law boutique led by Jeffery Woo, thus expanding its real estate practice.

Other associates joining Sedgwick from the boutique firm are David Blumenfeld, Harrison Nam, Scott Okamoto, Stanley Riddell, and Stephen Sherman. The boutique predominantly focused its practice on representing landlords, while Sedgwick's real estate firm already offers litigation and transactional services to its varied clients. Sedgwick's clientele includes developers, managers, lessees, professionals, and various kinds of commercial real estate owners. This shows a growing trend among big law firms, such as Sedgwick, to give small firms an access to administrative support network, offering a showcase to bring in services into new market areas.

Sedgwick, a 70-year old firm, has more than 350 attorneys working from 13 offices in the United States and Europe.
