Katten Partner Marilyn Selby Okoshi Named Among Leading Lawyers for Capital Markets and Corporate Finance in Asia-Pacific Region for Second Straight Year
Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP is pleased to announce that for the second consecutive year, Marilyn Selby Okoshi, a New York-based partner in the Firm’s Financial Services Practice, has been named among the leading lawyers in the areas of Capital Markets and Corporate Finance for the Asia-Pacific region by the Asialaw Leading Lawyers survey. The full results of the survey will be published in June in the 2007 edition of Asialaw Leading Lawyers and will be accompanied by an editorial overview of the top lawyers in each practice area.

The Asialaw Leading Lawyers survey has been conducted annually since 1995 by Asia Law & Practice, a specialist division of Euromoney Institutional Investor. In this year’s survey, over 16,000 law firm clients and legal professionals were invited to nominate lawyers who, in their opinion, have consistently excelled in particular fields of legal practice over the past year.

“We are very pleased that Marilyn has been recognized with this prestigious and well-deserved honor,” said Vincent A.F. Sergi, Katten’s National Managing Partner. “Her comprehensive knowledge and experience, representing clients in Japan and other Asian countries is second-to-none.”

Ms. Selby Okoshi focuses her practice on investment funds and managers, finance, structured finance, derivatives and financial products. She concentrates on, and has significant experience in, the organization and representation of on-shore and off-shore hedge funds and private equity funds. Specifically, she advises funds and fund investors with respect to derivatives, loan transactions, loan trading, financial products and investments in Japan and other Asian countries. She also has experience as lender and borrower counsel in traditional bank loans, private placements of securities and structured transactions, and has advised clients on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, securities offerings and general corporate matters.

Ms. Selby Okoshi is fluent in English, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese and has spoken in Japan on offshore hedge fund offerings. She has authored articles for numerous publications regarding the United States regulation of hedge funds and spoken at conferences on hedge fund regulation and OTC derivatives. Ms. Selby Okoshi is chair of the Governance Committee and co-chair of the Legal Peer Advisory Council of 100 Women in Hedge Funds.

Katten’s Financial Services Practice represents a large number of the world’s premier hedge funds and money managers, major investment and commercial banks, leading firms and insurance companies, and several international exchanges. The Firm’s more than 60 financial services attorneys regularly address the latest innovations in financial products and business strategy and the latest changes in the regulatory environment.

Schnader Attorneys Involved with New Third Circuit Appellate Practice Manual
Nancy Winkelman, co-chair of Schnader's Appellate Practice Group and co-founder and first president of the Bar Association of the Third Federal Circuit, is the co-editor and a chapter author of the Third Circuit Appellate Practice Manual, published in April 2007 by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. The manual also features several chapters authored by members of Schnader's Appellate Practice Group, including the Honorable Arlin M. Adams, the Honorable Timothy K. Lewis, Bruce P. Merenstein, Deena Jo Schneider, Carl A. Solano, and Paul H. Titus.

The manual covers every aspect of the appellate process, and includes chapters on when an appeal should be taken, understanding the record on appeal, the complexities of motions practice, the scope and standards of review on appeal, the significance of precedent and how to identify issues, appellate brief writing, and oral argument. Its authors offer practical insight and guidance on what is often a challenging area of practice for even the most experienced attorney. Additionally, the manual features a foreword by longtime Third Circuit Judge Ruggero J. Aldisert — himself a highly-respected jurist and author on appellate advocacy — and a dedication to former Third Circuit Chief Judge Edward R. Becker written by current Third Circuit Chief Judge Anthony J. Scirica. Ms. Winkelman's co-editor is James C. Martin of Reed Smith.

The members of Schnader's Appellate Practice Group serve both as appellate advocates and as appellate advisors. At the trial court level, Schnader's appellate attorneys regularly apply both analytic and advocacy skills on significant dispositive motions, in post-trial proceedings, and in advising about how best to preserve issues for appeal and to position them for optimal appellate review.
