Overlawyered (http://www.overlawyered.com) has been gleefully (http://www.overlawyered.com/2006/08/the_return _of_the_coffee_tort.html following (http://www.overlawyered.com/2006/08/ted_on_the _return_of_the_coffe.html the case of a Manhattan lawyer who had her foot scalded by a fallen cup of too-hot Starbucks coffee. She was awarded $301,000. There's some confusion between different (http://www.nypost.com/news/regionalnews/300g_i n_scar_bucks_regionalnews_dareh_gregorian.htm) news sources (http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/443899p -373795c.html) about whether the jury award will be reduced.

Hell having no fury like a lawyer inconvenienced isn't exactly a new story, nor is a large corporation being made to shell out for on dubious, or at least goofy-sounding, grounds. The legal blogosphere still seems to get a kick out of it. Maybe it's just that "coffee tort" sounds so sinfully delicious.

It's sad that I like Decision of the Day (http://appellatedecisions.blogspot.com/
) as much I do, considering it's a Scott Baio joke from "Arrested Development." (Yes, I know, "from what?") And yet it's more frequently updated, not to mention interesting, than a hell of a lot of blawgs out there.

It's even sadder that I'm only making this observation after the show's been cancelled. Will the blawg go on? Here's hoping.

Much commentary in the blogosphere about the notorious (http://thechronicleherald.ca/Business/520848.h tml) misplaced comma which may cost Rogers Communications Inc. over $2 million dollars.

The Law.com Blog Network seems to be regarding it as an opportunity to assign homework (http://legalblogwatch.typepad.com/legal_blog_w atch/2006/08/the_tragedy_of_.html); so far, no responses.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal Law Blog gleefully calls the ongoing debate a "Smackdown: Lawyers v. Linguists." (http://blogs.wsj.com/law/2006/08/08/law-blog-s mackdown-lawyers-v-linguists). Well...all right, but will they be wearing lucha libre costumes? (http://www.mericphoto.com/gallery/tangpage2.ht m) Because that I'd like to see.

Actually, His Former Honor has merely moved on to greener pastures, higher concerns, and a daily Ensure supplement, returning to his Canadian homeland to swear at the Sleepy Pines Villa’s staffpersons for not bringing him his cocoa fast enough.

Reports that the new Judge obtained her position by persuading him the meat locker at Cohen’s Fine Meat Products was a rejuvenating treatment based on new breakthroughs in cryogenics are greatly exaggerated.

Her Honor says hi.

Carolyn Elefant over at MyShingle.com observes that solo practitioners can learn about the importance of pursuing one's dreams from former attorney Thomas Rogers, now president of Tivo. (http://www.myshingle.com/my_shingle/2006/08/fi nding_a_way_t.html) Finding a way to combine a legal career with watching television all day: a truly inspirational story.

Meanwhile, the recruiters over at BCG Attorney Search seem to have been watching a lot of sketch comedy recently. (http://www.bcgsearch.com/crc/35_absurd_ways.ht ml) I'd like to say I'd hire anyone on the spot who answered that stupid "do you have any weaknesses?" interview question with the suggested "I work too hard, I'm a perfectionist, and I deflect questions like a politician at interviews," but I suspect that degree of honesty would be hard to face on a daily basis.

Do you ever experience any physical danger in the courtroom?  You do deal with all those criminals, right?
