Schottenstein Zox & Dunn's Public Law Practice Expands into Northeast Ohio
Schottenstein Zox & Dunn (SZD) is pleased to welcome the addition of Margaret Anne Cannon as Partner to the firm’s Public Law Practice Group. Cannon has joined SZD’s Cleveland, Ohio, office, extending the firm’s strong central Ohio public law presence into the state’s northeastern communities.

“While we represent numerous public entities throughout the state, the addition of Margaret will give us the ability to better serve our current client base and continue to grow in both the central and northeast Ohio municipal regions, “ said Stephen J. Smith, leader of SZD’s Public Law Practice Group.

Cannon joins SZD from Taft, Stettinius & Hollister, LLP, in Cleveland and focuses her practice on a variety of public sector matters including municipal, school, and public/private sector partnerships. Currently, Cannon serves as law director for the cities of Beachwood and Shaker Heights, Ohio. She was appointed by former Governor Taft to serve on the Legislative Task Force to Study Eminent Domain. Cannon is also a member of the Cuyahoga County Law Directors Association and the Ohio Municipal Attorneys Association.

Receiving her undergraduate degree from Oberlin College, magna cum laude, Cannon then completed her law degree at Case Western Reserve University.

New Associate Welcomed to Schottenstein Zox & Dunn
Schottenstein Zox & Dunn is pleased to welcome the addition of Asim Z. Haque as an associate in the firm’s Health Care Practice Group and Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Area.

Haque is a member of the Columbus, Ohio and American Bar Associations, as well as the American Health Lawyers Association. He currently chairs the Recognize and Motivate Future Alumni Leaders subcommittee for the Case Western Reserve University Alumni Association and is active in the Asian Pacific American Bar Association.

Haque received his undergraduate degree from Case Western Reserve University, cum laude and with honors, and his law degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, where he presented the College's Hooding Graduate Address in 2006.

Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons Attorney Kristin Bronson Appointed as a New Colorado Real Estate Commissioner
Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons LLP is pleased to announce that Kristin M. Bronson has been appointed by Governor Bill Ritter as a new Commissioner on the Colorado Real Estate Commission while continuing her practice with the firm.

Ms. Bronson has distinguished herself as a real estate trial lawyer and a business leader, succeeding in trials for multi-million dollar verdicts and judgments and chairing RJ&L's women's and attorney training initiatives. Ms. Bronson is president of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Denver for 2007, and has served on its board and chaired committees for over five years. She was honored with the "Women Who Makes a Difference Award" by CREW Denver, and she recently was also given the 2006 Richard Marden Davis Award presented by Davis Graham & Stubbs, the Denver Bar Foundation, and the Davis Foundation.

Kristin is a 1990 graduate of the University of Virginia, served as a legislative assistant for U.S. Senator Bob Graham in Washington, and joined Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons in 1997 after receiving her J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law.

Isao "Kami" Kamitani, Elected President of Japanese Firms Association of Colorado, Planting Cherry Blossom Trees
RJ&L, and Japanese Firms Association of Colorado (JFA) are pleased to announce that Isao "Kami" Kamitani has accepted the office of President of JFA. Mr. Kamitani helped establish JFA in 1981.

JFA is a non-profit organization to help support the interchange between Japanese enterprises and their families, and the Colorado community. JFA offers a Japanese supplementary school, events, and assistance that provide valuable information for first time Japanese residents in Colorado concerning the interchange with the American community, state government and the local business world.

Under Mr. Kamitani's leadership, JFA is initiating a new project for the Japanese businesspeople in Colorado together with Soka Gakkai International (SGI-USA), Denver, to repay the community by planting 79 sakura trees (Japanese cherry blossom trees) this April and May in Washington Park, Chessman Park and City Park. JFA has an ambitious plan to plant 2,000-3,000 sakura trees in our community in many years to come so that the people in this community can enjoy the Japanese cherry blossom every spring.

As the General Manager of International Business Solutions of Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons LLP, Mr. Kamitani is RJ&L's international business development specialist who provides non-legal business consulting services to domestic companies seeking to establish foreign operations and trade relationships. He also assists foreign companies that wish to conduct business in the United States, particularly in the Rocky Mountain region.

Richard Clark and Chris Sullivan Selected for the 2007 Colorado Corporate Counsel Black Book
Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons LLP (RJ&L) is pleased to announce that senior partner Richard K. "Dick" Clark, and associate, Christopher T. Sullivan, were named to the inaugural Colorado edition of the Corporate Counsel Black Book.

Designed exclusively as a resource for in-house legal departments, Corporate Counsel Black Book connects corporate counsel to the best private practice lawyers in Colorado in a credible way by identifying practitioners deemed the best in the business in the areas of law most used by corporate counsel. Top practitioners were identified through a comprehensive survey of more than 1,000 Colorado corporate counsel and managing partners at 50 Colorado law firms.

Dick Clark has more than 30 years of experience as a trial and business lawyer emphasizing international business, real estate, real estate brokerage, construction, complex litigation, and corporate disputes.

Chris Sullivan's practice focuses on a variety of corporate and business litigation, including representation of individual and corporate defendants in contract, fraud, and other business disputes. His experience also includes representing insurance guaranty associations in insurance receiverships and insolvencies. Mr. Sullivan has experience in both federal and state courts, as well as in arbitration.

Greg Kanan Elected to Prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers
Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons LLP is proud to announce that Gregory B. Kanan has been elected to the American College of Trial Lawyers. Fellowship is extended only by invitation, after careful investigation, to those experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality.

The American College of Trial Lawyers is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada and is widely considered to be the premier professional trial organization in America. Founded in 1950, the College is dedicated to maintaining and improving the standards of trial practice, the administration of justice and the ethics of the profession. Through its Board of Regents, its general committees and its state and province committees, the College engages in a wide variety of activities to further those purposes. Although there are currently more than 5,000 Fellows across the U.S. and Canada, membership can never be more than 1% of the total lawyer population of any state or province.

Greg Kanan specializes in commercial, securities, and antitrust litigation and health law and has trial experience in all of these areas. His antitrust representation includes both plaintiff and defense litigation and defense of criminal antitrust charges, and he has advised regarding antitrust issues in Colorado, Texas, California, South Dakota and elsewhere. In complex litigation, Greg has been named to Chambers USA Annual Clients Guide to Business Lawyers. In addition, he has also been selected by Best Lawyers in America for commercial litigation and named a "Colorado Super Lawyer" by Law & Politics.

Mr. Kanan graduated with a B.A. from the University of Colorado, and received his J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law. He served as Law Clerk to Chief Justice Edward Pringle of the Colorado Supreme Court.

RJ&L's Scott Browning Selected as a Forty Under 40
Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons LLP is proud to announce that Scott M. Browning has been recognized as one of the Denver Business Journal's "Forty Under 40" for 2007. The "Forty Under 40" awards recognize local, young dynamic business leaders, whose demonstrated involvement and excellence in both the local business sector and the community are helping to create Denver's future.

Scott Browning has been with RJ&L since 1994. His practice focuses on corporate and commercial litigation. At a young age, Scott has successfully tried as a lead lawyer many prominent business cases for and against major companies. Scott is trial counsel for the Archdiocese of Denver. His institutional clients also include Education Credit Management Company, Terracon, and Heitman Capital Management Company, among others. He has defended claims against Colorado companies, including AFSB and Consolidated Oil, brought by such large out-of-state entities as Bankers Life and La Salle Bank, and on behalf of his corporate clients. Scott has established favorable Tenth Circuit and state court legal precedent and obtained large monetary judgments. Scott also devotes substantial time to pro bono cases. For instance, he litigated pro bono an important federal case involving the rights of migrant farm workers in Colorado that resulted in a ground-breaking consent decree.

Scott graduated with a B.S. in Accounting from Trinity University, and received his J.D. from College of William and Mary, Marshall-Wythe School of Law.

When asked about the award, Scott said: "My clients, partners and other friends have provided me with wonderful opportunities, and I am pleased that the Denver Business Journal has focused attention on my clients' successes and these important causes. I look forward to continuing to advance the business and charitable goals of this fine community."

In addition to his legal career, Scott is currently a Director on the Board of Leadership Evergreen and is the chairperson-elect of that organization. He will begin serving as the chairperson for a two year term in 2008-2009. Scott also serves as a Director of SafeHouse Denver, and he was actively involved in the early formation of the non-profit entity, Invest in Kids. Scott coaches the Evergreen High School Mock Trial team and he is active in the Denver, Jefferson County and Evergreen business communities.

"We are pleased that Scott's exceptional skills and commitment to our clients and our community have been recognized by the Denver Business Journal," stated Managing Partner Fred Baumann. "He is a terrific attorney, who is passionate about his clients, and we are very proud of his many accomplishments."

Mr. Browning carries on RJ&L's proud tradition of "Forty Under 40" selections. Joel A. Glover, a partner in the Litigation Group, James Walker, the firm's senior tax partner, and Thomas M. Rogers, III, past partner and current Chief Counsel for Governor Bill Ritter, have previously been recipients of the award.
