Smith Moore’s Laura Burton Named Chair of NCBA International Law Section
Smith Moore LLP attorney Laura Burton has been named Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA) International Law and Practice Section. Burton will serve a one-year term in the position.

Burton, a board-certified specialist in immigration law, has been an attorney for Smith Moore for ten years and focuses her practice on international and business immigration law. She will oversee all aspects of the section, which is devoted to promoting the international law practice and supporting North Carolina attorneys who practice international law.

"I look forward to guiding the International Law and Practice Section of NCBA over the next year and to working with a very strong slate of officers and committee chairs to promote the state's commitment to international law," said Burton. "This commitment is increasingly important as countries around the world become more closely linked through business, innovation and culture. Several other attorneys with Smith Moore are also integrally involved in the section and practice of international law and it will be a pleasure to continue working with them as well."

Burton will primarily be involved in event planning for the second phase of the NCBA Attorney Exchange program with the Republic of China (Taiwan). The exchange program began in 2006 with a visit to Taiwan by members of the NCBA and will continue in 2007 when Taiwanese attorneys and judicial leaders visit North Carolina, including Greensboro on June 20. The program will continue in 2008 when another delegation of North Carolina attorneys will travel abroad.
