V. J. Graffeo, an attorney with Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker, LLC, has been invited to join the Birmingham Inn of Court, an organization of judges, law professors and lawyers designed to improve the skills, ethics and professionalism of the bench and bar.

The Birmingham Inn of Court is affiliated with the American Inns of Court, a national organization actively involving more than 20,000 state, federal and administrative law judges, attorneys, legal scholars and law students. For more information, visit http://www.innsofcourt.org.

V. J. Graffeo practices in the area of complex civil litigation. His experience includes working with the firm's securities, class action and derivative litigation team, as well as representing plaintiffs and defendants in other types of civil actions.

A lifelong resident of Birmingham, Mr. Graffeo is active in University of Alabama alumni organizations, the Birmingham Rotaract Club and the Blackburn Institute. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Birmingham Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section. Mr. Graffeo earned his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Alabama, where he served as Research Editor of the Law and Psychology Review.

Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker, LLC announces the continued growth of its Litigation Practice Group with the addition of Stephen L. Poer, a veteran courtroom litigator. Mr. Poer, who previously practiced with Haskell Slaughter for 16 years, rejoins the firm as a member after a five-year tenure as a partner in a Birmingham litigation specialty firm.

Steve Poer has a broad-based litigation practice, primarily representing clients in the defense of civil litigation. He has extensive courtroom and jury trial experience, including the representation of insurance, financial services and other business clients in tort claims, professional liability claims, products liability claims, fraud claims, dram shop claims and employment discrimination claims, among others. In addition to his civil defense practice, Mr. Poer has also represented clients in white-collar criminal defense matters. He began his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney in Jefferson County. After practicing with a number of smaller firms, he joined Haskell Slaughter in 1986, continuing his practice with the firm until 2002. In addition to his courtroom practice, Mr. Poer is a certified mediator and arbitrator and frequently serves as a neutral in alternative dispute resolution proceedings. He is a member of the Vestavia Hills, Alabama, Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Poer adds his front-line trial experience to the more than 45 lawyers of Haskell Slaughter’s Litigation Practice Group. The firm’s litigation team has represented business, governmental and individual clients in state and federal courts and arbitration and mediation proceedings across the country, including the U.S. Supreme Court.
