Tallahassee Attorney Receives International Recognition
Each year, Who’s Who Legal compiles a list of the elite lawyers from across the country and around the world. Thom Rumberger, founding partner of commercial litigation firm Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, is one of only five attorneys named to the 2007 International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers for product liability in Florida.

The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers is published by Law Business Research Limited, a London-based company that provides research, analysis and reporting on the international legal services marketplace. Research is conducted through interviews with general counsel and private practice lawyers in more than 20 areas of legal practice.

Roetzel & Andress Attorneys Named "Florida Super Lawyers" 2007
The law firm of Roetzel & Andress announces seven of its Florida attorneys have been selected as "Florida Super Lawyers" by the Law and Politics magazine.

The honorees are: Steven Hubbard (Real Estate), Fort Myers; and John Blakely (General Litigation), G. Carson McEachern (Estate Planning & Probate and Real Estate), Mark Price (Real Estate), Robert Pritt (City, County & Local Government Law), Stephen Thompson (Real Estate) and Joseph Zaks (Estate Planning & Probate), Naples. These seven attorneys join 38 Ohio-based Roetzel & Andress attorneys named to the 2007 "Ohio Super Lawyers."

"Florida Super Lawyers" recognizes lawyers who have attained a high degree of professional achievement and peer recognition. The nominations, from other state-licensed attorneys, are based on personal observation, whether as counsel or co-counsel or through first-hand observation in the courtroom. Attorneys receiving the most nominations were reviewed by a blue-ribbon panel. Only the attorneys with the highest scores were named a Super Lawyer, a recognition extended to only 5% of lawyers in the state.

Securities Litigator David Furbush Joins Pillsbury as Partner in Silicon Valley
Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP today announced that David Furbush has joined the Silicon Valley office as a partner in the firm’s Litigation Practice, which has more than 200 lawyers nationwide. Furbush will serve, along with San Francisco partner Bruce Ericson, as co-leader of the firmwide Securities Litigation Specialty Team.

A litigator for nearly 30 years, Furbush was most recently a partner in the Silicon Valley office of O’Melveny & Myers. At Pillsbury, Furbush’s practice will focus on securities litigation, including class action shareholder suits and investigations initiated by the Securities and Exchange Commission, but he will also tackle complex litigation in areas such as mergers and acquisitions, derivative suits and alleged breaches of fiduciary duty.

“David is a renowned securities litigator, with a decades-long track record in the Bay Area,” said Kirke Hasson, co-leader of Pillsbury’s Litigation Practice. “We are proud to have him join and help lead our growing securities litigation team, both in Silicon Valley and nationally.”

Furbush has represented prominent clients in Silicon Valley and elsewhere in high-stakes litigation, including leading technology companies and venture capital firms.

“Pillsbury is a law firm with an impressive client roster, highly talented professionals, and a superb reputation. It offers me a platform where I can grow, as well as the opportunity to lead a securities litigation practice, which is very exciting,” Furbush said. “I found Pillsbury’s vision of an industry-driven, client-focused firm to be very much in line with my own philosophies.”

Recent securities litigation matters Pillsbury has handled include representing the Special Committee of the Board of Directors of Laureate Education, Inc. in a shareholder class action arising out of a $3.8 billion leveraged buyout; representing the Independent Committee of the Board of Directors of PETCO Animal Supplies, Inc. in a shareholder action alleging breach of fiduciary duties in connection with PETCO's acquisition by two private equity groups; and numerous cases related to the backdating of stock options.

“David’s abilities and experience will enhance our service to clients in important securities litigation in Silicon Valley and elsewhere,” added Hasson.

Furbush received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and his JD from Harvard Law School.

Elizabeth M. Garcia Appointed Trustee of Burlington County Bar Association
Parker McCay attorney Elizabeth M. Garcia was recently appointed as a trustee for the Burlington County Bar Association’s 2007-2010 term.

As a trustee, Ms. Garcia will assist in making decisions regarding the Association’s finances, programming and community activities, and will take part in planning legal seminars and events for the Association and the community. She previously served as young lawyer trustee for the Association. She has been a member of the Association since 2001.

In addition to active membership in the Burlington County Bar Association, Ms. Garcia is a member of the New Jersey Bar Association. She concentrates her practice in the areas of civil rights and government liability, labor and employment, and municipal and government relations.

J. Anthony Manger Named Vice President of NJ Ballet
The Somerville law firm Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A. is pleased to announce that member J. Anthony Manger has been named Vice President of the New Jersey Ballet for a one-year term. Last year, Mr. Manger acted as Treasurer for the Ballet.

The New Jersey Ballet has been designated a Major Arts Institution by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for “artistic excellence, substantial programming and broad public service.” The New Jersey Ballet regularly performs at nine major venues throughout the State of New Jersey, including the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn and the Community Theater in Morristown, among others.

As head of the Norris McLaughlin & Marcus Health Care Law Group, Manger has handled some of the largest and most significant health care mergers and acquisitions in New Jersey. He has assisted health care institutions in the formation of “captive” entities for the provision of liability insurance and health insurance for affiliated physicians and employees. He organized the State's largest medical malpractice insurer and, for many years, served as counsel to a national association of malpractice insurers. In addition, he has represented various parties in numerous health care capital finance transactions and has vast experience in health care regulatory, corporate and contract matters, patient care and other health care issues.

Manger has been recognized in the Health Care Law section of The Best Lawyers In America since 1993. He frequently speaks and writes on a variety of health care topics, and appeared on News 12 New Jersey to discuss New Jersey’s medical malpractice crisis. He is a member of the American Bar, American Health Lawyers, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association, as well as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a past Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Malpractice Insurance Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association and a current Co-Chair of the Meritas Health Law Section Group.

Manger earned his J.D. from Columbia University in 1972 and his B.A. from Duke University in 1969.

Nixon Peabody LLP Expands Its Government Investigations and White Collar Defense Practice; Team of Six Lawyers Join Boston Office

They bring substantial experience in government investigations and white collar criminal defense, and also excel in handling a wide range of litigation and compliance matters on behalf of life sciences companies.”

Andrew Glincher, managing partner of Nixon Peabody’s Boston office, added, “The addition of this group of lawyers continues to boost our presence in Boston and across New England. Their knowledge of litigation matters in health care is especially valuable given the predominance of that industry in our region and the busy practice we already have serving pharmaceutical and medical device companies in New England.”

The attorneys join Nixon Peabody’s Government Investigations and White Collar Defense practice from the Boston o ffice of Holland & Knight. Mr. Seltzer, Partner, represents corporations, executives, and professionals in government investigations and enforcement actions. In recent years, he has focused on the representation of pharmaceutical companies and their executives in investigations of alleged violations of the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, the False Claims Act and the Medicaid Rebate Statute. He has represented executives of medical device manufacturers in government investigations of health care fraud. Outside the health care industry, he has represented senior corporate executives in securities enforcement investigations, and financial institutions in regulatory matters.

Formerly, Mr. Seltzer was a federal prosecutor for thirteen years both in Miami, as an assistant United States attorney in the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, and in Boston, as director of the New England Bank Fraud Task Force of the Fraud Section, Criminal Division, United States Department of Justice. Mr. Seltzer graduated, summa cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania and earned his J.D. degree from Boston College Law School, prior to a judicial clerkship for the Honorable John W. King, Chief Justice of the New Hampshire Supreme Court.

Mr. French, Partner, has extensive experience representing corporations and individuals in government investigations specifically those involving alleged health care fraud and abuse and bank fraud. He has represented clients in a variety of complex civil matters, including multidistrict pharmaceutical pricing litigation, civil RICO actions, banking and other financial services litigation, and lawsuits involving various types of fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and unfair business practices. Mr. French advises companies on developing, enhancing, and implementing their compliance programs. He also counsels clients on issues relating to electronic discovery and document retention. Mr. French graduated, cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts and earned his J.D. degree from Boston College Law School.
