Katonah Village Improvement Society
Curtis is representing the Katonah Village Improvement Society pro bono in KVIS’s opposition to Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia’s attempted registration of the name "Katonah" as a trademark for a wide range of consumer products, including furniture, hardware, linens and paints. The Katonah Village Improvement Society is a non-profit 501(c)(3) community organization founded in 1878 to improve and maintain the quality of life in the village of Katonah, New York. The Curtis team is led by partners Andrew H. Seiden and Turner P. Smith. The team also includes counsel Eric J. Stenshoel, associates Michael J. Sutherland Tops Chambers USA 2007 Rankings
Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP announces its 2007 rankings from Chambers USA, a highly regarded legal research organization. Chambers compiled research from more than 10,000 national peer and client interviews to create objective rankings based on legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial awareness, diligence and commitment.

Haskell Slaughter’s Baker Chairs Presentation for Lloyd's Underwriters
David R. Baker, an attorney with Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker, LLC, recently chaired a presentation at the National Conference of the Association of Lloyd's Members (ALM) held in London. The presentation, designed for U.S. individuals who participate in Lloyd's underwriting syndicates, featured an address by the U.S. Counsel of Lloyd's on new developments relating to U.S. tax treatment of the results of an individual's underwriting, with participation by the head of Lloyd's tax department. Mr. Baker, a member of the North American Advisory Board of ALM, was also in charge of arrangements for North American participants in the ALM conference, including a dinner organized by Mr. Baker at the historic Pall Mall building of the Royal Automobile Club.

Bingham Wins Summary Judgment for Battery Ventures
The United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois granted Bingham’s motion for summary judgment, dismissing $12 million in claims filed against client Battery Ventures. The plaintiff in the case was Leslie Rosenthal, former chairman of the Chicago Board of Trade and a former board member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He sought a $12 million finder's fee in connection with Battery and Blackstone's $90 million investment in the London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE). The court entered final judgment for Battery on all claims. Jordan Hershman, co-chair of the firm's Securities Litigation Group, led the team, with support from Jason Frank, Bill Harb, Jennifer Holden, Vicky Curry and Brenda Kelly.

Phyllis E. Bross Presents Brownfield Workshop at New Jersey Association of Counties Annual Conference
Parker McCay attorney Phyllis E. Bross presented a workshop titled “The Critical Role of Counties in Brownfield Redevelopment Today” at the New Jersey Association of Counties Annual Conference, recently held in Atlantic City, N.J.

Ms. Bross discussed how New Jersey counties—through cooperative agreements, funding and educating municipalities about the brownfield process—can play a meaningful role in whether or not a brownfield redevelopment project will ultimately succeed. The conference was attended by county officials from throughout the state, as well as business, industry, finance and education professionals.

Ms. Bross focuses her practice in the areas of brownfields redevelopment and environmental law, with an emphasis on the acquisition, remediation and reuse of contaminated sites. She serves as chair of the Legal Committee and co-chair of the Legislative Affairs Committee of the National Brownfield Association, New Jersey Chapter.

Michael A. Rambert Participates in Redevelopment Conference
Parker McCay attorney Michael A. Rambert recently participated in a conference titled “High Performance Redevelopment,” presented by the New Jersey State League of Municipalities and the New Jersey chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council.

Mr. Rambert joined other redevelopment experts to provide information on brownfields redevelopment, green building, energy, and affordable and sustainable housing to builders, investors, property owners, developers, bankers, realtors and local officials. Mr. Rambert served as a panelist for a seminar titled “Greening Brownfields,” which discussed issues such as institutional controls, implementation techniques and implications for developers and homeowner associations.

Mr. Rambert concentrates his practice in all aspects of real estate development and redevelopment, where he represents private developers and municipalities in the development/redevelopment of commercial, industrial and residential properties. He serves as president of the Garden State Bar Association, and is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the New Jersey Business and Industry Association.
