Hong Kong Partner to Speak at Professional Ethics Seminar on China
The law firm of Troutman Sanders LLP is pleased to announce that its Hong Kong office managing partner Eric Szweda will be among one of nine presenters and facilitators at The Southern Institute for Business and Professional Ethics’ July 26 Doing Business in China: The Ethical Landscape seminar.

The seminar, which will be held at the Buckhead Executive Education Center from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Atlanta, will feature first-hand lessons from executives at Coca-Cola, UPS, Wal-Mart and other major companies and professional firms.

These executives will discuss doing business in China’s fast-changing social and political environment as well as opening new operations, translating ethical standards into the Chinese culture and difficulties in supplier relationships.

The Southern Institute for Business and Professional Ethics, which is part of Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business, promotes professional integrity and global corporate responsibility. Founded in 1993 by leaders in business, education and other professions, the Institute strives to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals, institutions and society.

Eric Szweda, based in Hong Kong, assists Chinese and international clients with contract and commercial disputes and intellectual property matters. He is a U.S. qualified lawyer as well as a Foreign Legal Consultant in Hong Kong.

Haskell Slaughter’s Cohen to Moderate Birmingham Bar Program
Ross N. Cohen, an attorney with Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker, LLC, will serve as moderator for a Birmingham Bar Association (BBA) continuing legal education program entitled "Are We Still in Kansas? An Introduction to the New Alabama Uniform Trust Code." The program will be held at noon on Friday, July 27, 2007 at the BBA headquarters, 2021 Second Avenue North, Birmingham.

With over 3,000 members, the BBA is the largest local bar association in Alabama.

Ross Cohen represents clients in the areas of taxation and tax planning, wealth-transfer planning, estate planning, asset protection planning, corporate law and mergers and acquisitions. His business practice has involved tax planning for start-up entities and established businesses, executive compensation matters, tax-free reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, and representation of clients before the Internal Revenue Service and state tax authorities. JACKSONVILLE ATTORNEY WITH GUNSTER YOAKLEY & STEWART P.A. APPOINTED TO JTA BOARD BY GOVERNOR CRIST!!
Michael Cavendish, attorney and shareholder with the new Jacksonville office of Gunster Yoakley & Stewart P.A. has been appointed to the board of the Jacksonville Transportation Authority by Govenor Charlie Crist. Michael Cavendish succeeds John Sawyer on the board and will serve a term from July 5, 2007 through May 31, 2011. “It is an honor to be appointed to the board of the JTA. I truly love Jacksonville and am looking forward to serving this community,” stated Mr. Cavendish after his recent appointment.

Mr. Cavendish is a commercial lawyer concentrating his practice in complex commercial litigation. In addition to his appointment to the JTA board, Cavendish was recognized in early July as a leader in the legal profession by Florida Trend Magazine as one of Florida’s “Legal Elite,” a prestigious list of the top 1.8% of Florida Bar Members as ranked by their peers.

Michael Cavendish received his law degree and master’s degree from the University of Florida. He received his bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Florida State University. Cavendish, 35, lives in Avondale with his wife of 13 years, Michele Cavendish and their 3 year old daughter Caroline. He plays an active role in the community through fundraising and volunteer efforts with the I. M. Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless, Community Connections of Jacksonville, and the Florida Bar Foundation, a statewide association of lawyers who donate and raise money for free legal services to low income families.

Eckert Seamans Attorneys Named as Chair and Appointed to ACBA Construction Law Section
The national law firm Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC today announced that attorney Scott D. Cessar has been named as Chair of the Construction Law Section of the Allegheny County Bar Association and attorney Audrey K. Kwak has been appointed as a Member of the Section for a three-year term.

Scott D. Cessar serves as Member in Charge of the firm’s Pittsburgh office and as Chair of the firm’s Construction Law and Alternate Dispute Resolution Groups. His practice covers a broad range of civil litigation with a primary focus on construction law. Mr. Cessar has extensive trial and arbitration experience representing clients before various state and federal courts, arbitration panels and mediators. Mr. Cessar’s construction law practice encompasses both public and private projects (commercial, heavy/highway, industrial, institutional and residential). He has handled all types of construction claims including delay, impact, loss of productivity, differing site condition, defective work, extra cost and default; representing owners, prime contractors, subcontractors, design professionals and sureties. He also has a significant practice in the design and implementation of all types of construction delivery systems, in the drafting and negotiation of complex construction contracts and in advising on bond and lien issues. He was named to Pennsylvania Super Lawyers for 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. Mr. Cessar received his law degree from the University of Notre Dame, where he was a member of its Moot Trial Team and the recipient of the Barrett Award for excellence in trial advocacy. He received a bachelor's degree cum laude from Dickinson College, where he majored in political science and history. Mr. Cessar is active in various community and charitable groups, including serving as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Lupus Center of Excellence at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He also serves as a member of the Pine Township Zoning Hearing Board.

Audrey K. Kwak is an Associate in the firm’s Construction Law Group. Ms. Kwak concentrates her practice in the area of construction litigation. Her experience extends from the preparation and execution of mechanics’ liens to the feasibility of third-party actions in construction disputes, in addition to the provision of extensive briefing and litigation support. Ms. Kwak received her B.A. in Psychology from Brown University, with honors, and her J.D. from Boston College Law School, and served as judicial intern to Chief Judge Marvin Aspen of the Northern District of Illinois. While at Boston College Law, she was published in the Boston College Third World Law Journal, for which she also served as Editor-in-Chief. She has provided aid on various pro bono projects offered both through the firm and the Allegheny County Bar Association and currently serves as co-chair of the Judiciary Committee of the Women’s Bar Association.

Top Labor and Employment Law Attorney Joins Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Indianapolis Office
Selected as one of the top 100 labor attorneys in the country in 2007 by the Labor Relations Institute, his practice experience includes matters related to the state and federal courts, the National Labor Relations Act, employer/employee relationships with labor unions, affirmative action and all aspects of employment discrimination.

In addition to handling matters before the National Labor Relations Board, state and federal courts, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and various state and federal agencies, Dr. Mills counsels employers on a variety of human resource issues such as employee handbooks, employee attitude surveys, the preparation of Affirmative Action Plans, the ADA, FMLA, COBRA and the WARN Act.

Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Mills was a senior attorney with Wessels & Pautsch, P.C.

Baker Donelson Combining with Gambrell & Stolz in Atlanta; Firm's Southeast Presence Boosted with Addition of 36 Attorneys
Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC and the Atlanta law firm of Gambrell & Stolz LLP are combining. The combined firm will maintain the name of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC.

The 36 Gambrell & Stolz attorneys are joining Baker Donelson's 14 attorneys in Atlanta, bringing the combined firm's total number of attorneys in Georgia to 50; firm wide, the total number of attorneys and public policy advisors now exceeds 500. Current plans call for the combined firm to maintain Gambrell's existing offices in Atlanta/Buckhead and Macon, with Baker Donelson's Atlanta attorneys and staff relocating from their current offices by the end of 2007.
