COURT RULES FOR MORGAN & FINNEGAN CLIENT W. L. GORE & ASSOCIATES, INC.
In Andersen Corp. v. Pella Corp. and W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc., Chief Judge James M. Rosenbaum of the United States District Court of Minnesota granted the motion for summary judgment of invalidity filed by Gore and Pella. The Court's opinion is one of the first in which a trial court judge has permitted rebriefing on the question of obviousness in light of the Supreme Court's recent decision in KSR Int'l Co. v. Teleflex, Inc., ___ U.S. ___, 127 S. Ct. 1727 (2007). After further briefing and argument, the Court granted defendants' motion for summary judgment, finding the claims of the asserted patent obvious and invalid as a matter of law. The Morgan & Finnegan attorneys representing W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. were John T. Gallagher and Jessica L. Rando.

Maslon Attorneys Laura Walvoord and Nicole Narotzky Featured in the 2007 MSBA Pro Bono Legal Service Report
Maslon Attorneys Laura Walvoord and Nicole Narotzky are featured in the Minnesota State Bar Association's June 2007 Pro Bono Legal Service Report.

Nicole was recognized for her volunteer work with Chrysalis, assisting women who have experienced domestic violence to obtain an order for protection (OFP) as part of the Pro Bono Safety Project. Under Laura Walvoord's supervision, Nicole took a case for a woman suffering from severe abuse by her husband. The woman had recently arrived to the United States from Africa and, with little understanding of the English language, needed assistance in obtaining help.

An advocate from Sojourner Project helped get services and shelter for the client. An interpreter helped the client communicate, and the team worked to obtain an OFP for her. Nicole was able to obtain child and spousal support in the first hearing and, when the husband contested, was able to prove through cross-examination that the husband was able to afford support for his wife and son.
