Beth Tractenberg Joins Katten Muchin Rosenman as Partner in Trusts and Estates Practice
Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP today announced that Beth Tractenberg has joined the Firm as a partner in its Trusts and Estates Practice. Ms. Tractenberg will practice in the Firm’s New York office.

“Beth’s extensive experience across a broad range of trusts and estates matters for both high net worth individuals and family businesses makes her a valuable addition to our practice,” said Joshua S. Rubenstein, chair of Katten’s National Trusts and Estates Practice and managing partner of the New York office. “We are excited to welcome Beth to our team and look forward to collaborating with her in continuing to provide outstanding client service.”

Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Tractenberg was a partner in the New York office of Davies, Ward, Phillips & Vineberg LLP.

Ms. Tractenberg concentrates her practice in the fields of estate planning, estate administration, and not-for-profit organizations. She advises high net worth individuals and family enterprises on all aspects of estate planning and cross-border and international tax planning. Ms. Tractenberg represents a number of individuals and families with significant real estate and business holdings both in the U.S. and abroad. Drawing on her tax and trusts and estates experience, she also serves as a family advisor on numerous business, management and related personal issues for her clients.

Ms. Tractenberg has written and lectured extensively on the topics of domestic and international planning and charitable organizations, as well as on other related issues. She has served an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University, teaching a course on tax-exempt organizations in the school’s graduate taxation program. Ms. Tractenberg also currently serves as chair of the Committee on International Estate Planning and is a former chair of the Committee on Charitable Organizations of the Trusts and Estates Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. In addition, she is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel where she is a member of both the Charitable and the International Estate Planning Committees.

Ms. Tractenberg earned her B.A. from Wesleyan University, where she was Phi Beta Kappa and her J.D. from New York University School of Law, where she was elected to the Order of the Coif.

Katten’s Trusts and Estates Practice provides the full panoply of trusts and estates-related services on a local, national and international level. Its attorneys perform sophisticated estate, tax, business, charitable and personal planning for high net worth individuals, entrepreneurs and others with complex assets or affairs.

They represent both fiduciaries and beneficiaries in connection with ongoing estate and trust administration on a multigenerational basis and are also experienced in handling contested proceedings involving estates and trusts in the courts, before taxing authorities, and before governmental and regulatory authorities.

Holland & Hart Welcomes Scott D. Hess To Boise Offic
Scott D. Hess, a leading Idaho trial attorney, has joined the Boise office of Holland & Hart to continue his commercial and construction litigation practice.

Mr. Hess has been in private practice in Boise since 1982. He has significant experience in many areas of litigation, including all aspects of commercial litigation with a current emphasis on litigation involving complex business disputes. He will participate in the firm's Commercial Litigation and Construction/Real Estate practice groups.

Mr. Hess has tried cases involving environmental and commercial insurance, various real estate matters relating to sales, acquisitions and real estate development, construction disputes representing general contractors, subcontractors and materialmen, as well as disputes involving financial institutions, disputed patent and trademark matters and various types of personal and property damage issues including those implicating governmental liability. He has also been a frequent speaker on various trial advocacy issues and insurance coverage issues.

Hodgson Russ partners Paul R. Comeau and John F. State speakers at ELA tax conference
Hodgson Russ LLP partners Paul R. Comeau and John F. State were featured speakers at the “Tax Executives Roundtable” conference, held recently in Chicago, Illinois. The conference, sponsored by the Equipment Leasing Association, addressed a wide range of tax issues for senior-level tax practitioners in the equipment leasing and finance industry.

Mr. Comeau and Mr. State presented “Documentation Issues: Sales and Personal Property Taxes,” which detailed special documentation considerations for various types of equipment leases, lease syndication transactions, passages of title, and more.

Mr. Comeau is the chair of Hodgson Russ and a partner in the firm’s State & Local Tax Practice Group. He works out of the Firm’s New York City, Buffalo, and Boca Raton, Florida, offices and is licensed to practice law in both Florida and New York. His practice concentrates in taxation, business planning, and estate planning, and he is listed in The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Comeau serves as co-editor of New York Tax Service and co-editor of New York Tax Cases, and he is co-chair of the Multistate Tax Committee of the New York State Bar Association Tax Section.

Mr. State is a partner in the Real Estate & Finance Practice Group and practices from the firm’s Albany office. He has extensive experience representing banks and other financial institutions in commercial asset-based lending and equipment leasing and financing transactions. He regularly deals with most types of assets, including commercial and corporate aircraft, railroad rolling stock, real estate facilities, and motor vehicles.

Hal R. Lieberman Honored as 2006 New York Super Lawyer
Hinshaw and Culbertson LLP attorney, Hal R. Lieberman, has been honored as a 2006 ""Super Lawyer,"" in the area of Professional Liability Defense, by Law & Politics publication, 2006 New York Super Lawyers - Manhattan Edition. This honor places him in the top 5 percent of attorneys in Manhattan.

For nearly 20 years, Mr. Lieberman has focused his practice on lawyers' professional liability and ethics matters, and has helped shape the law governing lawyer liability. Prior to representing lawyers and law firms in private practice, he was an Assistant Bar Counsel in the Massachusetts Office of the Bar Counsel (1983 – 87), and then served for more than 13 years as Principal Trial Attorney (1987 – 89) and Chief Counsel (1989 – 98) to the Departmental Disciplinary Committee of the New York Supreme Court, First Department.

He taught legal ethics at Brooklyn Law School for 13 years, and served as a visiting lecturer on the topics of legal ethics and professional discipline at Harvard Law School, Fordham Law School, Hofstra Law School, Cardozo Law School and New York Law School. Mr. Lieberman has also been an Assistant Professor and Pre-Law Advisor at North Carolina Central University, and a Lecturer on Law at the University of North Carolina Graduate School of Social Work.

Mr. Lieberman is a former coordinator and trainer for the Complaint Mediation Panel of the Departmental Disciplinary Committee. This program, which he founded, was the first lawyer-client dispute resolution program in the United States serving as an adjunct to the professional disciplinary system.

He is a member of the American Law Institute and served on the members' consultative group for the Restatement of the Law Governing Lawyers. He is the former Chair of the Committee on Professional Discipline of the New York City Bar; is a member of the Committee on Professional Discipline of the New York State Bar Association; a past member of the Boston Bar Association Ethics Committee; and a past member of the Committees on Professional and Judicial Ethics and Professional Responsibility of the New York City Bar. His professional affiliations also include membership in the New York County Lawyers' Association; the Federal Bar Council; the U.S. District Court, E.D.N.Y (Grievance Panel); and the Association of Professional Responsibility Attorneys.

Mr. Lieberman received his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1967.

In addition to his ""Super Lawyer"" designation, Mr. Lieberman holds the AV® Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, its highest rating for ethics and legal ability. Mr. Lieberman joined Hinshaw in March 2004.
