Third Party Administrator Alliance Signs Michael Best & Friedrich LLP for Legal Services
The Third Party Administrator Alliance—known as the TPAA—has signed an agreement with Wisconsin-based Michael Best & Friedrich LLP to provide legal services for its member TPAs.

According to Peggy Wolford, vice president of business development for the TPAA, “Michael Best & Friedrich has significant experience in the employee benefits field and has represented TPAs, brokers, consultants and employers. Their understanding of this industry from every angle makes them a valuable partner for our members.”

In addition to individual services, TPAA members will have access to a “group legal” purchasing model to cover issues that will likely affect all members. This model should lead to reduced legal expenses for participating members. Also, Michael Best offers teleweb and telephone seminars as well as an “extranet” for housing documents that can be accessed 24/7. “We believe our firm and the TPAA are an excellent fit,” says John Barlament, Attorney and Partner with Michael Best & Friedrich LLP. “Most large law firms also have very high hourly billing rates and most small firms do not have the additional resources available in-house when needed. At Michael Best, we can rely on our full-service corporate and litigation departments to assist with various TPA issues such as mergers and acquisitions and litigation. Combined with our dedication to and knowledge of the industry, we will be a great partner for the TPAA members.

Media statement
Freshfields wishes to clarify the position of its new Infrastructure and Transport Group and the significance it accords to project finance and the know how of its project finance lawyers.

* We have recently established a new sector group by drawing together several smaller but increasingly aligned sector groups. The new sector group will be called the Infrastructure and Transport Group (ITG), which includes infrastructure, transport, defence and public sector work. Finance partner Nick Bliss and corporate partner Edward Braham will be co-heads of the new group.
* Our global sector groups draw specialists from all practice areas to form client and industry-focused teams to deliver a complete service to clients in these sectors. Partners in our practice groups can be members of one or more sector groups as well, depending on the industry sectors in which their clients operate.
* As is well known, infrastructure is a 'hot' asset class and we have acted in the leading deals in this area. In the UK, for example, we acted for the winning purchaser for BAA, Associated British Ports and Anglian Water.
* With the creation of ITG we are aligning ourselves further with the market in terms of what our clients are doing. Attention is shifting to investment in brownfield infrastructure assets and we have many clients who have established, or are in the course of establishing, infrastructure funds or teams. These include all the major banks, well known infrastructure investors and long term investors. This market shift plays to our core M&A and project finance strengths, combining asset class and financing knowledge (project finance) and acquisition skills (M&A).
* Our London project finance practice remains an integral and successful part of our global finance practice, which is core to the service our clients expect from us. Our project finance partners will continue working on high profile deals. Our project finance practice enjoys high rankings in the leading legal publications with several leading practitioners.
* Going forward there will be increasing focus on areas such as secondary activity in projects (acquisition, disposal and restructuring) as well as the primary project origination market, and we are still very much involved in high profile greenfield (or primary) projects, for example, Galileo, the EU backed next generation satellite communications and navigation system, the UK's M25 London Orbital road project, roads in Russia (including the St Petersburg Western High Speed Diameter), the recently closed Gautrain project (a new rail link from Johannesburg to Pretoria and Johannesburg Airport to Sandton), the new Dublin Metro project and Port Mann/Highway 1 in British Columbia, Canada, as well as a range of greenfield projects in the Gulf and a variety of other non OECD countries.
