Orrick Lawyer Predicts Impact of 3G Networks in Latin America
New York global finance partner Mary Rose Brusewitz participated in a question and answer dialogue about the launch of 3G networks in Latin America and their impact on the region.

"Once again, cell phone technology will permit the region to leap frog developed countries. There is a chance to apply lessons from elsewhere as the evolutionary process into 3G continues," Brusewitz stated. "Easier access to the Internet will benefit many, but especially the poor and rural users. In many countries, even the less fortunate have cell phones. Building on the cell phone base will permit lifestyle and economic benefits from Internet access to be more widely shared.

Nelson Mullins Doubles Charlotte Law Firm Space
Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP has doubled its space in Charlotte effective today with a move almost 20 floors higher in the Bank of America Corporate Center.

The Firm has moved from the 24th floor in the building at 100 North Tryon Street to the 42nd and 43rd floors, increasing the Firm's space from 21,700 square feet to 43,400 square feet.

"This move signifies the Firm's commitment to grow and serve the Charlotte market," said Charlotte Managing Partner Tracy Tomlin. "Gaining more space allows us to stretch out in the wake of our growth over the past few years and will allow us to expand as we bring in more talent and clients."

The new space will include a multifunctional conference center and a total of eight conference rooms, which will enhance the Firm's growth opportunities and client service capabilities in Charlotte, Mr. Tomlin said.

Nelson Mullins' presence in North Carolina has grown from two attorneys in Charlotte as recently as 2000 to 57 throughout the state. The Firm has six lawyers in its Winston-Salem office and 26 in its Raleigh office. The Charlotte office itself has grown to 25 attorneys.

"We are now well positioned with fantastic new space in one of the premier office buildings in the Southeast and room to grow to more than 50 attorneys," according to Mr. Tomlin, a goal he says the Firm would like to meet before the end of the decade.

Firm attorneys in Charlotte have been involved in many significant business, tax, and legal developments, including work with leading financial and lending institutions, public companies, product manufacturers, and health care entities.
