Julie Pruitt Barry presents on Brownfields development to REBA Environmental Committee
Julie Pruitt Barry, partner and co-chair of the firm's Land Use, Permitting and Development practice, was invited to speak to the Real Estate Bar Association (REBA) Environmental Committee on "Brownfields 101." Julie discussed legal protections potentially available to Brownfields developers at the REBA Headquarters in Boston on February 28.

Judge William A. Dreier to Speak at ICLE Product Liability Seminar
The Somerville law firm Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A. is pleased to announce that Judge William A. Dreier, a member of the firm, will speak at a seminar entitled “Product Liability: From Intake Through Trial,” sponsored by the Institute for Continuing Legal Education. The seminar will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick on Saturday, March 3, 2007.

“Product Liability: From Intake Through Trial” is a new program which teaches attendees how to properly prepare the product liability case, from the initial interview through trial. Based upon a commonplace product injury fact pattern, an expert panel of lawyers and retired judges will guide participants through the key components and requirements of a product liability case. Though reference will be made to key cases, the focus will be the flow of the case from start to finish.

Dreier is widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading authorities on products liability law. He is a frequent lecturer for the Institute for Continuing Legal Education in New Jersey, as well as numerous other professional organizations throughout the country. He has written more than 30 law review articles on products liability, alternative dispute resolution and other subjects, in addition to 380 published judicial opinions. Dreier is Planning Chair and Faculty Member of the annual Advanced National Products Liability Course for the ALI-ABA, and has been a lecturer in symposia at five national law schools. He is the author of two highly respected texts, New Jersey Products Liability and Toxic Tort Law (Gann Law Books), published annually since 1977, and Chancery Practice in New Jersey (ICLE), published in six editions since 1982.

Nixon Peabody Expands Corporate Trust Practice With New Partner; Michele D. Ross Brings More Than 20 Years Of Experience In Corporate Finance
Ms. Ross has more than 20 years of experience in the area of corporate finance, particularly around domestic and international capital markets debt issuances. She has participated in every facet of the practice representing issuers, underwriters, trustees and credit enhancement providers in connection with all types of capital market debt issuances. She concentrates her practice on representing financial institutions that provide indenture trustee and other securities-related fiduciary, custody and agency services to the capital markets. Ms. Ross also brings extensive experience in handling domestic and international debt securities and securitization transactions, as well as substantial experience in domestic and international project finance.

In addition to practicing law, Ms. Ross is an active speaker at industry events. Ms. Ross joins Nixon Peabody from Katten Muchin Rosenman in Washington, D.C., where she was Co-Head of the Corporate Department. She received her B.A. degree from The American University. Ms. Ross began her legal studies at New York Law School and concluded them at University of San Francisco. She also holds a Diploma in International Law from The London School of Economics and Political Science.

McLane Goes Red in the Fight against Heart Disease
This Valentine's Day, the shareholders and employees of the law firm of McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton, Professional Association raised $435 for the American Heart Association to support the fight against heart disease.

Eighty-two of the firm's 181 lawyers and administrative employees paid $5 along with their promise to live a "heart healthy" life. As a physical gesture, the employees paired their favorite red tops with jeans for the day to build awareness for the cause.

McLane also showed its support of heart health recently by partnering with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield to become a major contributor to the Greater Manchester YMCA's latest capital campaign. The YMCA's newly renovated cardiovascular and weight-training facility has been named the Anthem/McLane Family Fitness Center.

Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw named "Law Firm of the Year" by Private Equity Magazine
International law firm Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP has been named "Law Firm of the Year" at an awards ceremony held by Private Equity Magazine, the French publication dedicated to capital investment. The event which was held on 13 February 2007, honoured the most proactive capital investment professionals operating within France and the rest of Europe during 2006.

Jean-Philippe Lambert, Partner in Charge of Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw, Paris added: "We are very proud to have received this award. We have a very strong private equity capability in France and internationally and we are delighted by the recognition afforded to the team from significant players within the industry."

The Paris private equity team comprises seven partners including three tax specialists: Xavier Jaspar, Guillaume Kuperfils, Laurent Borey, Alexis Dargent, Erwan Heurtel, Benjamin Homo and Olivier Parawan.

The jury was made up of representatives of investment funds and partners of law firms active within the private equity sector.

Luce Forward Marketing Manager Nicole Matthews Earns Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP) Designation; Joins Elite Group of Only 250 CSEPs Worldwide
Nicole R. Matthews, Luce Forward’s San Diego-based Marketing Manager, has earned the Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP) designation, awarded by the International Special Events Society (ISES). The CSEP designation has only been bestowed on just over 250 Event Planning professionals throughout the world by ISES since its inception.

The CSEP designation is “the hallmark of professional achievement in the special events industry.” It is earned through education, performance, experience, and service to the industry, and reflects a commitment to professional conduct and ethics. ISES is considered to be “the only international umbrella organization representing professionals in all disciplines of the special events industry.”

ISES awarded Matthews with the CSEP designation after she completed the CSEP program and passed the CSEP Examination. In order to be considered for the CSEP designation, candidates must also have a minimum of three years working in the event planning industry.

In her role as Marketing Manager at Luce Forward, Matthews plans and facilitates events for and on behalf of the firm’s attorneys, including attorney retreats, seminars, client appreciation events, and special educational events, with attendance ranging from 10 to 300. In 2006, Matthews led the firm’s planning efforts on behalf of the 40th Conference of the Pacific Rim Advisory Council (PRAC), which brought together delegates from over 31 law firms and 23 different countries.

“ISES sets the standards for professionalism for event professionals, and earning a CSEP designation is a tremendous honor for me,” Matthews said. “I am proud to join such a highly esteemed and accomplished group of event industry professionals.
