Tom Korologos has entered into an alliance with DLA Piper as Strategic Advisor
DLA Piper today announced that former Ambassador Tom C. Korologos will bring his many years of high-level public and private sector experience to the firm and its clients in his new role as Strategic Advisor.

Korologos most recently served as U.S. Ambassador to Belgium, from July 2004 to February 2007. Before that, he was senior counsel with the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq. In his wide and varied Washington experience, he has served as an assistant to two presidents, a senior staff member in the U.S. Congress, a member of the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy and the Broadcasting Board of Governors, and he has been a prominent businessman.

“With his vast experience, diverse contacts and unsurpassed insight into how government and business work, Tom Korologos will be a great resource to our team,” said Governor James Blanchard, chairman of DLA Piper’s Government Affairs practice. “As a former ambassador myself, I know the value his experience brings to clients.”

“I look forward to being associated with such a well regarded and truly global firm, helping clients to seize opportunities in an increasingly complex and inter-connected world,” Korologos said.

Long active in Republican Party circles, Korologos will be joining a bipartisan Government Affairs team at DLA Piper that includes three former Congressional majority leaders, Senator George Mitchell, chairman of DLA Piper’s Global Board; Richard K. Armey, Senior Advisor at the firm; and Richard A. Gephardt, Senior Counsel at the firm.

Korologos served in the Nixon and Ford Administrations as Deputy Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs (Senate), and was chief of staff to Senator Wallace F. Bennett (R-Utah) for nine years. In 1980-81, Korologos was Director of Congressional Relations for President Ronald Reagan’s transition, and he was a member of the Bush-Cheney transition team in 2001. As a volunteer, he assisted presidential appointees in numerous U.S. Senate confirmations during the Reagan and both Bush Administrations. He also served as Director of Congressional Relations for the National Bipartisan (Kissinger) Commission for Central America.

“Tom Korologos’s name is synonymous with the finest tradition of public service,” said Berl Bernhard, a senior partner at DLA Piper and a longtime friend of Korologos. “We are honored to be associated with a person of his stature and experience.”

Korologos was a senior advisor to Senator Bob Dole during his 1996 Presidential campaign. He managed the confirmation of Donald Rumsfeld as secretary of defense, as well as the confirmation process for other nominees appointed by President Bush.

Earlier in his career Korologos was a journalist with the New York Herald Tribune, the Long Island Press, the Salt Lake Tribune and the Associated Press. From 1975 to 2003, he chaired the executive committee of Timmons and Company, a Washington consulting firm he co-founded.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Korologos was a U.S. Air Force officer. He earned his B.A. degree at the University of Utah and an M.S. degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He is married to Ann McLaughlin Korologos, former Secretary of Labor, under President Reagan.

Goldfarb Joins DLA Piper’s Litigation Practice in Dallas
DLA Piper US LLP has announced that Jeffrey Goldfarb has joined the firm’s Litigation practice group as a partner in its Dallas office. He comes to DLA Piper from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.

Goldfarb is a litigator with a focus on complex business litigation, intellectual property and trademark disputes, arbitration and appeals. He also has extensive experience in matters involving corporate governance, officer and director liability and shareholder disputes.

“Jeff’s extensive experience handing complex business litigation and intellectual property work for a variety of clients will be a tremendous asset,” said Robert Mathias, chair of DLA Piper’s Litigation practice group. “He is a very well-respected litigator and will add even more depth to our intellectual property and litigation practices.”

“Jeff is an outstanding attorney and we are honored to welcome him to our team in Dallas,” added Philip Weller, managing partner of the firm’s Dallas office. “His strong reputation and vast knowledge will be instrumental in attracting and managing complex commercial and intellectual property litigation in Dallas.”

During his twelve years at Akin Gump, Goldfarb handled numerous commercial disputes and defended companies against false advertising claims, trademark infringement, dilution, counterfeiting claims and contract and tort disputes. Goldfarb has also represented clients bringing and defending injunction actions and damage claims relating to misappropriation of confidential information and trade secrets and non-competition covenants. “Jeff’s addition illustrates our continued commitment to strengthening the Trial practice nationwide and to the growth of our Dallas office,” noted James Nelson, head of the Litigation practice group in Texas. “Along with Bob Kantner, who joined the Dallas office as a partner in May and also handles intellectual property and business litigation, Jeff will further strengthen our Texas litigation group and aid in the mentoring and training of litigation associates.”

Goldfarb received a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Brandeis University. He served as law clerk to the Honorable Irving L.
