HASKELL SLAUGHTER EXPANDS BANKING PRACTICE WITH ADDITION OF STANLEY POLLOCK
Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker, LLC announces the expansion of its banking and financial institutions practice with the addition of Stanley H. Pollock, a veteran advisor to Southeastern financial institutions who joins the firm as counsel. Mr. Pollock represents banks, bank holding companies, thrifts and nonbank subsidiaries of financial institution holding companies on a wide variety of corporate and regulatory matters, with a particular concentration on community financial institutions. His practice focuses on a wide variety of financial institution matters, including financial institution mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, holding company formations, record retention issues, capital planning, de novo bank chartering, new product development, defending against administrative enforcement actions, and other corporate and regulatory issues. Mr. Pollock will be based in Atlanta, where he has practiced for over 30 years.

Mr. Pollock began his legal career at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, and served for several years as the chief legal officer of The Prudential Bank and Trust Company and The Prudential Savings Bank, F.S.B., the two banking subsidiaries of Prudential Financial that were located in Atlanta. His career has also included extensive private practice experience in Atlanta.

A frequent speaker and author on financial institutions law, Mr. Pollock is active in bar association and banking trade association matters, and has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Bankers Association's Bank Counsel Section, among other key appointments.

Mr. Pollock adds further depth and experience to Haskell Slaughter's existing banking and financial institutions practice. The firm's practice includes the representation of financial institutions in mergers and acquisitions, securities regulation, corporate finance transactions, electronic payment and e-commerce matters, bankruptcy and creditors' rights issues, and debt restructurings. In addition, the firm regularly acts as counsel to local, regional and national lenders in secured and unsecured lending transactions.

Ann R. Klee Testifies at U.S. Senate Environment & Public Works Committee Hearing on U.S. Supreme Court's Decision in Massachusetts v. EPA
Ann R. Klee, Environment & Natural Resources partner with Crowell & Moring LLP and former General Counsel of the Environmental Protection Agency, testified at the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works hearing, “The Implications of the Supreme Court’s Decision Regarding EPA’s Authorities with Respect to Greenhouse Gases under the Clean Air Act.” The hearing, chaired by Sen. Barbara Boxer (D.-Calif.), occurred Tuesday, April 23, 2007 at 9:45 a.m. EDT. Klee sat on a witness panel that examined actions EPA could take in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision in Massachusetts v. EPA.

Klee was joined on the panel with: Stephen L. Johnson, EPA Administrator; William K. Reilly, former EPA Administrator; Carol M. Browner, former EPA Administrator; Peter Glaser, Clean Air attorney and partner at Troutman Sanders, LLP; and David Doniger, policy director of the Natural Resource Defense Council’s Climate Center.

As a partner at Crowell & Moring, Klee provides counseling, litigation and legislative representation to a wide range of companies, trade associations, and state and local governments. She held the position of General Counsel of the EPA for two years following her appointment by President George W. Bush in May 2004 and confirmation by the U.S. Senate. She is also the former Chief Counsel of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works and served as the Counselor to the Secretary of the Department of the Interior (DOI). While at EPA, her work included serving as the agency lead on numerous Supreme Court and federal court briefs, including two landmark decisions concerning wetland protection under the Clean Water Act as well as developing immediate guidance on novel legal issues to facilitate post-Hurricane Katrina and Rita clean-up. Her work also included supervising the legal implementation of the Clean Air Mercury Rule and the Clean Air Interstate Rule; developing agency legal opinions regarding water transfers and application of pesticides to U.S. waters; and review of legal issues relating to permitting of energy development projects, including oil and gas leases, liquid natural gas facilities, and power plant licensing.

Sidley Austin LLP to Open Office in Australia
Sidley Austin LLP announced that it will open an office in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in May 2007. At that time Bob Meyers, currently the managing partner of the Sydney office of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, will join the firm as partner, resident in Sydney. With existing offices in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and Singapore, the Sydney office will be the sixth Sidley office in the Asia Pacific region.

Mr. Meyers is one of the leading US legal advisers to Australian companies and Australian and international investment banks on US and international capital raisings and stock exchange listings, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, structured finance and M&A transactions.

Tom Cole, Chair of the firm’s Executive Committee, noted “Our decision to open an office in Sydney and the recruitment of Mr. Meyers demonstrates our commitment to serving our clients throughout the world.”

DLA Piper strengthens its liability team with pharmaceutical specialist Machteld Hiemstra
DLA Piper strengthened its position in the pharmaceutical sector with the appointment of Machteld Hiemstra as associate to the Technology, Media and Commercial group. Machteld specialises in product liability, risk control and product authorisation focusing on drugs. She joins from Akzo Nobel where, for the last three years, she worked as a senior member of international legal staff, responsible for global product liability and product regulations.

Machteld Hiemstra will use her international knowledge and experience of product liability procedures to the benefit of DLA Piper's clients worldwide. Her appointment fits the full-service concept which DLA Piper offers its clients. Machteld: "In my discipline, DLA Piper is one of the few organisations with a truly integrated international practice. I'm looking forward to working with international colleagues in the fields of patent law, administrative law, investment projects and product registration."

Machteld started her career at Stibbe. She moved to Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in 2000, where, besides product liability, she focused on registration, protection and marketing of products within the pharmaceutical and food industry. Machteld left for Akzo in 2004.

Ivan Wasserman And Kerrie Campbell Join Manatt In Washington, D.C.
Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, the national law and consulting firm, announced today that Ivan J. Wasserman and Kerrie L. Campbell have joined the firm’s Advertising, Marketing & Media practice. Both attorneys, who join Manatt from Kelley Drye Collier Shannon, are based in Washington, D.C.

Two Labor and Employment Attorneys Join Las Vegas Office
