Dear Judged
Value of a Law Degree

Your Honor,

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas said his law degree is worth 15 cents.  CENTS.  Is he right, or doth the justice protest too much?

Dear MommaLaw,

Dear Fifty (or is it ‘Fiddy’?),

Sir Thomas is not having a good run of late, despite the fact that his whiny tell-all is sitting on top of the New York Times’s Best Seller List.  He has professed, shall we say, peculiar opinions in the past, especially vis a vis race and religion, but now it seems he isn’t satisfied with blaming Anita Hill for all his woes.

Now he’s apparently added Yale Law School to his (s)hit list.   I can’t think of any other Yale Law grad (much less one sitting on the Supreme Court) who can tenably argue that his or her law degree hasn’t been a boon to their career.  There will always be those who question your qualifications (I have always questioned Thomas’s moral sanity, and will continue to- this is the same guy who said “America was founded on a philosophy of individual rights, not group rights” – tell that to the legions of slaves and female suffragists, you giant tool) but Thomas’s major complaint is that he wasn’t able to get a good job offer because too many employers implied that he was only at Yale to fulfill a racial quota in line with Affirmative Action.

Memo to Saint Thomas: it frequently takes a while for most law graduates to land a good job, whether they come from Yale or not.  Plus, other black graduates from the same class have rebuffed his claims, saying they had no more trouble landing jobs than their white counterparts. So zip it, Clarence.  Quit complaining and do what you do best: wondering whose pubic hair is one your coke can and (s)electing presidents in tight races.  Libertarian my ass!
