Supreme Court bars Enron suit

The US Supreme Court has declined to keep alive a large investor's suit against major investment bankers. The case stems from the Enron fiasco, and the damages sought was around $40 Billion. But with last week's Stoneridge ruling appearing to foreclose the suit, the Supreme's made it official today: the Plaintiffs are out of luck, thereby upholding the 5th Circuit.

Microsoft sued for alleged patent violation by Chinese Firm

Chinese Company Zhongyi Electronic has sued Microsoft Corporation claiming that Microsoft has breached their patent for converting Roman characters, or the alphabet used in most of the world, to Chinese characters. Microsoft has denied these charges.

Indictments dismissed against Texas Supreme Court Judge

Texas Supreme Court Justice David Medina and his wife received good news last Friday: The indictments against them for arson in connection with the fire at their home on June 28, 2007 have been dismissed.

Judge allegedly told Scruggs ruling could earn him federal post

According to court documents filed by prosecutors and recently unsealed, a Mississippi Judge was allegedly told that ruling in favor of Richard "Dickie" Scruggs could mean consideration for the federal bench. Judge DeLaughter has denied accepting any bribes.

Canadian prosecutor's drop charges in tainted blood case

Prosecutots in Canada dropped all charges against former Canadian Red Cross medical director Dr. Roger Perrault. They found there was "no reasonable prospect of conviction in the case." This case had been brought in relation to the use in the 1980's and 1990's of tainted blood by the Canadian Red Cross. That incident led to more than 20,000 people infected with Hepatitis C and over a thousand people with HIV.

SEC digs up treasure in Treasure Hunting company

The SEC has found it's own peculiar brand of treasure--insider trading-- in the company Odyssey Marine Exploration. Last May, Odyssey found buried treasure off the coast of Spain to the tune of $500 million dollars. Now, it turns out that one of the consultants who helped find the treasure sort of accidentally and bought up lots of stock--before the find went public. Then, he sort of accidentally sold said stock after it surged. Guess he wanted some treasure, regardless of how he got his hands on it.

Texas Supreme Court Justice indicted for arson

Texas Supreme Court Justice David Medina and his wife were indicted today by a grand jury in Houston in connection with a June fire at their Texas home. Within hours, however, the local district attorney backpedaled furiously on whether the Justice would be charged with a crime.
