Thought being a law prof was cheap? Think again

For a while, it's been true that in order to teach at a law school, you take a cut in pay from your firm position, and have to give up some perks, etc. But that's not necessarily true anymore. NYU's school of law has shelled out over $4 million dollars to buy her an exclusive condominium (over 4,000 square feet) in a pricey French Renaissance chateau in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. So, can we start whining about law professor perks now?

Sears tower terror retrial starting

Jury Selection began yesterday in the retrial of six men charged with allegedly conspiring to bomb the Sears Tower in Chicago and FBI headquarters in Miami. There were originally seven charged, but one man won acquittal in the first trial and a mistrial was declared for the other six.

Supremes asked to rule quickly on campaign ads

The Supreme Court was asked Tuesday to swiftly consider and rule this Term on a Constitutional challenge to limits on their planned broadcast of ads promoting a movie about Hillary Clinton. Another movie about Barack Obama is allegedly in the works. This case is unusual in that appeals go directly to the Supreme Court, skipping the Circuit Court stage.

Supreme's bar Muslim inmate from suing over Koran disappearance

Today, the US Supreme Court, in a 5-4 decision, decided that a Muslim inmate could not sue the government over the disappearance of the inmates' Koran and prayer rug. The case turned on some statutory interpretation, and basically held that under the particular law the inmate relied on, the officials are immune from suit. AS a note, Justice Breyer in dissent took us through the travails of his butterless refrigerator.

Today is the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the historic abortion decision, decided on January 22nd, 1973. Curiously, Jane Doe, the ultimate victor, has since become an pro-life campaigner.

Landmark 2nd Amendment case to be heard March 18th

The Supreme Court has announced it will hear the landmark case on gun control, District of Columbia v. Heller, on March 18th. This is one of the largest cases this term.
