HOWREY VERDOPPELT DAS TEAM IN MÜNCHEN
Die internationale Kanzlei Howrey LLP setzt den Ausbau ihres im Januar eröffneten Münchener Büros mit dem Einstieg des IP- und IT-Experten Michael Knospe fort. Der 48-jährige Jurist wechselt zum 1. Juni 2007 von Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, wo er seit 2000 die Abteilung für Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz in München leitete. Er bringt ein Team von vier Associates mit. Die Zahl der für Howrey in München tätigen Anwälte wächst unter Berücksichtigung einer weiteren Verstärkung des Teams des Managing Partners und Patentrechtlers Dr. Joachim Feldges insgesamt von vier auf zehn.

Michael Knospe berät sowohl im IP- als auch im IT-Recht einschließlich Lizenzrecht, Internet-und Multimediarecht, Markenrecht, Patentrecht sowie im telekommunikationsbezogenen Wettbewerbsrecht. Zu seinen wichtigsten Mandaten der vergangenen Jahre zählen die Beratung und gerichtliche Vertretung von ProSiebenSat.1 Media, etwa bei der Absicherung der von ihrer früheren Muttergesellschaft KirchMedia erworbenen Rechte oder beim Erwerb von Sportrechten (u.a. Champions League), die laufende Beratung und Vertretung von Bose im Marken- und Designschutz und bei der Etablierung neuer Vertriebssysteme sowie die Beratung von Softwareunternehmen wie Autodesk oder ecommerce-Vermittler wie Scout24. Das Team von Michael Knospe berät und vertritt ferner die FIFA und andere bedeutende Sportverbände bei der Rechteverwertung (WM 2006) oder gegen Ambush Marketing Aktivitäten Dritter und führt Patentverletzungsverfahren, etwa für Qualcomm und Festo.

Seine Berufslaufbahn startete der neue Howrey Partner nach dem Studium in Freiburg und München 1988 als Associate bei Bruckhaus Westrick Stegemann (bis 1990 Westrick Eckholt). Von 1991 bis 1999 war er als Partner im Frankfurter Büro von Bruckhaus Westrick Heller Löber tätig. Von 2000 an war er leitender Partner der IP- / IT-Praxis des Münchner Büros von Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Mit dem Wechsel von Michael Knospe und seinen Mitarbeitern Dr. Stefan Hanloser, Caroline von Nussbaum, Konstantin Krienke und Bjoern Hajek wird der bisherige Schwerpunkt des Münchener Howrey Büros in den Bereichen Pharmazie und Biotechnolgie auf die im Münchener Raum ebenfalls sehr starken Bereiche Medien und IT erweitert. Mit der Büroeröffnung im Januar war zum Gründungsteam um Dr. Joachim Feldges bereits Marc Groebl als Partner im Bereich Marken-, Wettbewerbs- und Urheber¬recht hinzugekommen. Groebl war zuvor Partner bei der IP-Boutique Preu Bohlig.

„Wir decken nun mit drei Partnern und sieben fachlichen Mitarbeitern das gesamte Spektrum des Gewerblichen Rechtsschutzes ab“, erklärt Dr. Joachim Feldges. „Wie jüngst in London und Paris wird Howrey auch in Deutschland zielgerichtet auf ein qualitatives Wachstum setzen. Der deutsche Markt ist für die Mandanten von Howrey dabei von zentraler Bedeutung innerhalb Europas. Dies wird sich in einem entsprechend starken Wachstum der deutschen Praxis widerspiegeln.“

Howrey LLP ist eine 1956 in den USA gegründete internationale Rechtsanwaltssozietät, die Mandanten weltweit im Kartellrecht, Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz sowie in der streitigen Rechtsdurchsetzung berät. Howrey hat die Zahl deutschsprachiger Anwälte in den vergangenen Monaten kontinuierlich erhöht. Im Sommer 2006 verstärkte die Kanzlei den Standort Brüssel mit einem hochkarätig besetzten Team deutscher Kartellrechtler verstärkt, darunter Götz Drauz, vormals Stellvertretender Generaldirektor der EU-Generaldirektion Wettbewerb, Martina Maier, ehemals Leiterin der internationalen Kartellrechtspraxis von Haarmann Hemmelrath sowie Dr. Michael Schütte und Dr. Marc Reysen, zuvor Managing Partner bzw. JEAN de HAUTECLOCQUE JOINS HOWREY IN PARIS
Howrey LLP has announced that Jean de Hauteclocque, one of France’s leading arbitration and dispute resolution specialists, has joined the firm’s Paris office as of today. He joins from his own firm, Hauteclocque-Larroumet-Tessler and was previously at Lovells and at Freshfields (1984-2000) where he headed the Litigation Department .

In making the announcement, Robert F. Ruyak, Chairman and CEO of Howrey, said, “Jean de Hauteclocque will expand our arbitration practice to Paris, one of the most important venues for arbitration in the world. He is well known and respected there and we look forward to continuing to develop our arbitration team in France. Two Holland & Knight Lawyers Listed Among Top Lobbyists on K Street
Former Congressman Gerry Sikorski (D-MN), head of Holland & Knight's Government Section, and Rich Gold, head of the firm's Public Policy and Regulation Practice Group, have been named to The Hill's annual list of top lobbyists in Washington, D.C.

The "Best Hired Guns on K Street" list is compiled through conversations with members of Congress, key aides and various lobbyists. It considers those whose names "never fail to arise when talk turns to a given issue," as well as those who enjoyed big legislative wins in the past year or have high-profile legislation before Congress.

J. Christopher Fuller Lends Expertise to UrbanPlan Program
Bracewell & Giuliani LLP attorney J. Christopher Fuller is lending his real estate expertise to Dallas-area students in conjunction with the UrbanPlan program, aimed at educating high school and college students on effective land use.

The program offers an opportunity to apply classroom learning to real-world problem solving, and functions as a cooperative addition to standard Economics class curriculum.

Mr. Fuller completed volunteer certification training through the Urban Land Institute (ULI) in order to mentor students during a six-week period, as they work to create a detailed and comprehensive redevelopment plan for a hypothetical blighted neighborhood.

“The hope is that one or more of these young adults might be inspired to pursue urban planning as a career,” said Mr. Fuller.

The Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics at the University of California, Berkeley developed UrbanPlan in collaboration with The Urban Land Institute (ULI), a national non-profit organization of public and private sector land use professionals, and high school economics and government teachers.

Weil Gotshal Counsels Lehman and Morgan Stanley in Cablevision Transaction
Cablevision Systems Corporation, one of the nation’s leading entertainment and telecommunications companies, has entered into a definitive merger agreement with an entity created by members of the Dolan Family Group, pursuant to which all outstanding shares of Cablevision held by the public shareholders will be converted into $36.26 per share in cash. The transaction implies a total enterprise value of approximately $22 billion.

Cablevision’s Board of Directors voted to approve the transaction after review and approval by a Special Transaction Committee comprised of independent directors of Cablevision.
