Dickinson Wright Attorney Lawrence G. Campbell Honored with Excellence in Defense Award
Dickinson Wright attorney Lawrence G. Campbell is the recipient of the 2007 Michigan Defense Trial Counsel (MDTC) "Excellence in Defense Award".

The award, which was established in 1992, honors civil defense counsel who have over a number of years served as pillars of the defense bar. Criteria include professionalism, intelligence, creativity, judgment, personality, sensitivity, civility, advocacy skills, community involvement and efforts to educate younger attorneys. It is MDTC's highest honor, and among the most prestigious awards bestowed upon a civil litigator in Michigan.

"Inside and outside of the courtroom, Larry exemplifies a level of character, talent and professional achievement that few can claim," said James A. Samborn, Chief Executive Officer, Dickinson Wright. "He is a most worthy recipient of the Excellence in Defense Award. On behalf of everyone at Dickinson Wright, I congratulate him for this prestigious recognition. We are proud to be his colleagues. "

MDTC is the statewide association of attorneys representing the defense in civil litigation. The award recipient is selected by the MDTC Board of Directors, who review nominations submitted by MDTC's past presidents based on the initial selections of a nomination committee. Each year, the winner is announced on May 1, which is "Law Day" – a day of national commemoration of the U.S. legal system. The award is presented at the MDTC annual meeting in June.

Campbell joined Dickinson Wright, the law firm at which he has spent his entire career, in 1969. He has extensive experience in handling business and commercial litigation matters, with emphasis in securities fraud defense, as well as accountant malpractice and contract disputes. Other areas of expertise include acquisitions, mergers, dissolutions of corporations, alternative dispute resolution and labor contract negotiations. He holds a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and a J.D. degree from the University of Detroit Law School, where he was managing editor of the Law Review.

His professional and community involvement activities include the following: Member, American College of Trial Lawyers, 2002; Federal Bar Association: Past President, Detroit Chapter, 1994–1995; Past Member, Executive Board, 1994–1995; Panel Member, Large, Complex Case Program, American Arbitration Association, 1993–present; Panel Member, American Arbitration Association’s Panel of Employment Arbitrators, January 1997–present; Past Chairperson, U.S. Courts Committee, State Bar of Michigan, 1989–1992; Center for Public Resources, 1988–present; Member, Commercial Litigation Committee, Corporate, Finance and Business Law Section, State Bar of Michigan, 1985–present; and Member, Panel of Commercial Arbitrators, American Arbitration Association, 1985–present.

Two other Dickinson Wright attorneys, John E.S. Scott and Robert S. Krause, have received the MDTC Excellence in Defense Award – Mr. Scott in 1994, and Mr. Krause in 2001.
