Weil Gotshal Partner Peter N. Cubita and Associate Michelle Hartmann to Receive 2007 Burton Award for Legal Achievement
Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP partner Peter N. Cubita and associate Michelle Hartmann have been selected to receive a 2007 Burton Award for Legal Achievement. Mr. Cubita and Ms. Hartmann are being honored for their article entitled “The ECOA Discrimination Proscription and Disparate Impact -- Interpreting the Meaning of the Words that Actually Are There,” which was published in the February 2006 edition of The Business Lawyer.

The Burton Awards program is a national awards program, run in association with the Library of Congress, that is dedicated principally to recognizing and honoring law firm partners and law school students who exhibit excellence in legal writing. Program organizers note that the competition for these legal writing awards has been extremely competitive given the quality and number of law firm and law student nominations. The 2007 Burton Awards for law firm writing are being given to partners at only 30 law firms who have been selected from all of the entries received from the 1,000 largest law firms in the US.

Mr. Cubita, a member of the Financial Services practice group in Weil Gotshal’s Litigation/Regulatory department, practices in the consumer financial services area. He has extensive experience in financial services litigation, governmental enforcement matters and regulatory compliance. Ms. Hartmann practices in the areas of complex commercial, financial services and employment litigation.

The eighth annual Burton Awards ceremony will be held at the Library of Congress in Washington DC on June 4, 2007. Last year, Weil Gotshal received a 2006 Law Firm Record of Distinction Award, an honor bestowed upon a select group of law firms that have had winners in the Burton Awards program for three or more years.
