Francis Chin Joins HBA’s Minority Opportunities Committee
Bracewell & Giuliani LLP associate Francis E.W. Chin has been selected as a member of the Houston Bar Association’s Minority Opportunities in the Legal Profession committee for 2007-2008.

The committee develops and sponsors educational programs and service projects aimed at promoting equal opportunities for minority lawyers.

“I think it is important to support this committee and its efforts because I believe both personally and professionally that having a diverse workplace is a priority,” said Chin. “We are at a critical time here in Houston and around the country where diversity initiatives in law firms and corporations are at the forefront. These types of initiatives hopefully will gain more support and recognition, and ultimately, become wholly accepted and appreciated at law firms and corporations to the extent that they become commonplace. I live for a day when such committees are no longer needed,” added Chin.

Paul Hastings Launches Associate International Exchange Program
Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP (Paul Hastings), a leading international law firm, announced the launch of the Paul Hastings Associate International Exchange Program.

First-rate training and development of associates' knowledge, skills and abilities directly increases retention of top talent. The Exchange Program provides U.S. and international associates training through broader experience and exposure within Paul Hastings to specific practice areas and the global nature of its practice.

"Paul Hastings Exchange Program reflects our commitment to our people," says Seth Zachary, Chairman of Paul Hastings. "Through innovative programs such as this, our associates are exposed first-hand to Paul Hastings' collaborative culture and learn early on what it takes to adapt to the different business environments in the countries in which we operate. This training allows them to add significant value to our clients as the economy continues to globalize."

The firm's Attorney Development Committee will oversee a pilot program with selected offices starting in June 2007 and running through June 2008. Following the pilot program, the Exchange Program will be open to receive applications from eligible associates beginning in the Fall of 2008. Eligible associates will participate in a rigorous selection process and will be required to present a strong business case for their proposed exchange. Once selected an Exchange associate will spend between 12 and 24 months in the host office. This length of stay provides an optimal time frame for the associate to acclimate to the new culture, integrate into the host office team, learn and apply new skills, and contribute productively.
