ORANGE COUNTY - Einbinder Joins Snell & Wilmer's Commercial Litigation Practice
Snell & Wilmer announced the addition of attorney Stuart Einbinder to its Orange County office. Einbinder will be joining the firm as a partner and will be focusing his practice in commercial litigation.

Einbinder brings a tremendous amount of experience to the firm with extensive experience in several areas, including construction, commercial transactions, energy, insurance and government contracting. Throughout his career, he has represented a wide range of clients in civil litigation matters in state and federal courts, and in administrative and ADR proceedings.

Einbinder is active in numerous legal and industry organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association, the Association of General Contractors, the Construction Users Roundtable, and other similar organizations. He is a frequent speaker at various legal and industry events.

Einbinder’s educational background consists of a juris doctor, magna cum laude, from Hastings College of Law and a Bachelor of Science in economics and political science from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is a resident of Tustin, Calif

Hunton & Williams Names Brian Buroker Head of IP Practice
"Hunton & Williams LLP today announced that it has named Brian M. Buroker ashead of its intellectual property practice Buroker, 37, focuses his practice on ecommerce, telecommunications, business method and software patent litigation, as well as reexamination, licensing, prosecution and counseling. A former patent examiner in the software arts, he has litigated several closely watched cases for the IP community such as MercExchange v. eBay et al., in which he serves as counsel for patent holder MercExchange.

“Brian has long been the ‘go-to’ IP lawyer for many of our most significant clients,” said Wally Martinez, the firm’s managing partner. “He has earned the respect of not only his clients but also his colleagues throughout the firm. Orrick Announces New Head of Asian Real Estate Practic
Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP announced today that James Tervo has been named head of its Asian Real Estate Practice. Before moving to the Shanghai office, he served as partner in charge of the Tokyo office and led the Tokyo Real Estate Department.

"China is the most exciting real estate investment market in the world," said William Murray Jr., Chair of the Global Real Estate Group. "Our key investment banking clients appreciate the untapped potential of the Chinese market and are moving quickly to capitalize on the opportunities there. Jim and our Asian Real Estate practice have developed strong relationships with these companies, and because of his experience building our preeminent practice in Tokyo, we anticipate significant growth of our practice and great success in the region."

"Orrick has one of the largest and most successful real estate practices of any firm in Japan, and I look forward to helping the firm build a similar practice in China," Tervo said. When he arrived in Tokyo in July of 2002, Tervo focused on real estate finance and related entity formation and capitalization, representing lending institutions, investment banks, developers and both domestic and foreign investors. Tervo's recent Japan projects include financings for office, hotel, retail and residential properties.

Over the last two years, Orrick has expanded dramatically throughout Asia. In 2005, the firm opened in Taipei and Hong Kong, and in 2006, added offices in Beijing and Shanghai. Orrick's Tokyo office celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2007. Elizabeth D. Moore to Be Honored by Girl Scout Council of Greater New York; Moore is a leader dedicated to promoting equal opportunities and leadership roles for women
Elizabeth Moore provides counsel to her clients on government compliance issues which include ethics, government relations strategy, lobbying, and campaign finance. Most recently, Moore was appointed to New York State Governor Eliot Spitzer’s Transition Committee as a co-chair, providing knowledge and insight as one of Spitzer’s policy advisors.

Moore also co-chairs Nixon Peabody’s Diversity Action Committee (DAC), established to continue the firm’s commitment to diversity initiatives. The mission of this committee is to ensure that a sense of diversity and inclusiveness is fostered throughout the firm in all that the firm does involving its lawyers, personnel, and clients. The Association of Black Women Attorneys also recognized Moore as one of its “Leaders for a New Century” by giving her its Legal Community Award.

Moore earned her J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law, and graduated with a B.S. from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University. Moore also received an Honorary Doctor of Civil Law from St. John’s University.

Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw Announces New Partner-In-Charge of Chicago Office
Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP is pleased to announce the appointment of Frederick B. (Fritz) Thomas, 57, to Partner-In-Charge of the firm's Chicago office, its largest office with more than 500 lawyers. Thomas will replace Julian C. D'Esposito, Jr., 62, who is continuing as a member of the Government and Global Trade Practice and who will also serve as Secretary of the firm-wide management committee.

In 2002 D'Esposito became the firm's first Partner-In-Charge of the Chicago office; previously that role was undertaken by the firm's managing partner. "We're grateful that Julian stepped up to the Partner-In-Charge role some five years ago, and he's done a tremendous job during that time," said Ty Fahner, chairman of Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw. Echoed chairman-elect James D. Holzhauer, "The Chicago office as well as the firm at large has benefited from the creation of this position and Julian's tenure. Among other responsibilities, he oversaw the design, construction and move into our new Chicago offices."

Holzhauer continued, "His organizational skills, wisdom and character are regularly seen and appreciated by all of us and we are pleased that he will be using those talents for the firm as a whole."

D'Esposito will also continue his practice representing several major Chicago-area governmental bodies and private clients in transactions and infrastructure matters.

Fritz Thomas joined Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw in 1975 after graduating from the University of Chicago Law School and clerking for a federal judge. With the exception of a three-year period during which he served in the firm's London office, he has practiced in the Chicago office throughout his career. Thomas serves on the firm-wide management committee and has served as a firm-wide practice leader for the firm's corporate practice. His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other transactions and on advising boards of directors and management regarding corporate governance, securities and other matters.

Thomas's work has been recognized in publications and listings such as Chambers Global, Chambers USA, Who's Who Legal USA, Who's Who Legal Illinois, Best Lawyers in America, BTI Client Service All-Stars and Illinois Super Lawyers.

"Fritz is a distinguished attorney and well suited to be the Partner-In-Charge of Chicago," chairman-elect Holzhauer commented. "He has played an instrumental role within his practice group, and his leadership skills will be great assets to the Chicago office and the firm."

Richard Leavy Joins Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw's New York Office as Firm Expands its State and Local Tax Practice
Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP is pleased to announce that Richard Leavy, 36, has joined the firm as partner in the New York Tax Transactions Practice. Mr. Leavy brings 10 years of transactional tax structuring and planning experience to the firm, and represents a significant expansion of the firm’s state and local tax practice.

"Richard has extensive experience in the representation of taxpayer interests and in the structuring, negotiation and oversight of complex multi-jurisdictional transactions," commented Brian Trust, partner-in-charge at Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw's New York office. "His industry expertise and knowledge should significantly benefit our clients as we expand our state and local tax practice and deepen our expertise in tax planning and tax controversy."

As tax partner in the New York office of McDermott Will & Emery LLP, Mr. Leavy was charged with helping strategic and institutional investors in planning for the acquisition, ownership, syndication and disposition of real property, financial, and operational investments, with a particular emphasis on the state and local tax aspects thereof. A significant component of his practice was to advise prospective recipients of state, local, tax and economic development incentives. Additionally, Mr. Leavy worked in the state and local tax controversy practice representing taxpayer interests under audit, before administrative review panels, in formal and informal hearings and before tax courts and courts of general jurisdiction.

Mr. Leavy began his legal career in the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in New Jersey, where he was an intern during his third year of law school to the Honorable Leonard I. Garth, senior circuit judge. He then continued on to Hutton, Ingram, Yuzek, Gainen, Caroll & Bertolotti in New York where he garnered the foundation for his tax and transaction expertise.

"Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw's tax transaction practice has a rich tradition of providing the best strategic and tactical counsel to their high-profile clients," said Mr. Leavy. In 1992, Mr. Leavy graduated with departmental honors from Rutgers College with a B.A. in political science. He also received his J.D. from Rutgers in 1996, where he was awarded the Alumni Senior Prize, and went on to the New York University School of Law to receive his LL.M. in taxation. Since 1998, Mr. Leavy has also served as a part-time law lecturer at Rutgers School of Law where he teaches state and local taxation.
