Ted Maya And Jonathan Rotter Receive Public Counsel's Consumer Rights Project "Advocates Of The Year" Award
Ted Maya and Jonathan Rotter, associates in the Litigation Department in the Los Angeles office, will receive Public Counsel's highly prestigious Consumer Rights Project Advocates of the Year Award for assisting a victim of an alleged real estate fraud scheme and continuing to pursue recovery on her behalf. The award will be presented at Public Counsel's 7th Annual Volunteer Celebration and Reception on May 15, 2007.

Supervised by Jeffrey Gordon, partner in the Litigation Department in the Los Angeles office, Ted and Jon are representing a pro bono client in an action to recover the title to and equity in her home. As alleged in the complaint, the client was facing default when she was approached with an offer to refinance her home, but was subsequently defrauded of both title and equity. Through Ted and Jonathan's efforts, the client has been able to stay in her home, and both associates continue to work on an array of issues in this complicated case, which includes the simultaneous criminal prosecution of the alleged fraudsters. Kaye Scholer became involved in the case through Los Angeles' Public Counsel, the world's largest pro bono public interest law firm.
