Sonnenschein Expands Corporate Group in New York
National law firm Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP announced today the addition of Glen W. Roberts II as a partner in its Corporate Practice Group. Roberts will reside in Sonnenschein’s New York office.

Roberts is an experienced private equity lawyer who specializes in corporate transactional work. He represents several real estate investment funds and advises clients on a variety of securities compliance, corporate finance and M&A-related matters. Qualified to practice law in both New York and England, Roberts also has an expertise in Islamic finance.

“Glen is a dynamic corporate transactional lawyer,” said Paul A. Gajer, chair of Sonnenschein’s Corporate Practice Group. “He will be a valuable resource for our private equity and hospitality practices, particularly with respect to cross-border deals, especially those involving the U.K. and the Middle East.”

Roberts received a J.D. degree, with honors, from the University of North Carolina School of Law and a B.A. degree from Brown University. Prior to joining Sonnenschein, Roberts was counsel at Dechert LLP. He previously worked in the private equity group at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP.

“Sonnenschein will give me the opportunity to put my skills, experience and contacts to good use for its global client base,” said Roberts. “I recognize that growing the corporate and hospitality practices is a big part of the firm’s overall strategic plan and I am excited to be a part of it.

Attorney Anthony M. Sharett Elected to the Columbus Bar Association Board of Governors
Columbus associate Anthony M. Sharett has been elected to the Columbus Bar Association Board of Governors for a two-year term.

The Board of Governors is the governing body of the Columbus Bar Association charged to oversee the affairs and implement the policy of the 5,000 member Association. Among other duties, the Board of Governors prepares and adopts the annual budget, appoints its Executive Director, and counsels the Association’s President and Officers.

Anthony is one of the youngest attorneys elected to the Board of Governors in its 138 year history. He will be sworn in at the Columbus Bar Association’s annual meeting in June.

Anthony is an associate in the the litigation practice area in the Columbus, Ohio office. He has significant regulatory experience after spending three years as an attorney at the Ohio Department of Commerce. Anthony also serves on the New-Lawyers Committee; the Minorities in the Law Committee; Barrister Leader Program Participant (2005); Pro Bono Task Force Sub Committee Member (2006); Lawyers for Justice Participant (2006); American Inns of Court, Franklin Inn; received the Emerging Leader Award, John Mercer Langston Bar Association (2006); and is a Fellow, African American Leadership Academy.

Attorney Derick Thurman Appointed Chair of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association
Charlotte partner Derick Thurman has been appointed Chair of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association for fiscal year 2007-2008. He has previously served as Vice Chair, Secretary, and CLE Chair.

The 14,000-member North Carolina Bar Association is a voluntary association serving the diverse needs of the legal profession with member services such as continuing legal education, legislative lobbying, specialty sections, and public service activities. The 560-member Labor and Employment Law Section is comprised of attorneys representing both the plaintiff and defense bars, as well as in-house and government counsel, whose practices focus on employment and traditional labor law issues. The Section provides extensive CLE programs, a regular scholarly newsletter, and various employment-related public service activities.

Derick is a partner in the employment and labor law and litigation practice groups in the Charlotte, North Carolina office. Derick is a member of the Board of Directors of Community Health Services, the Mecklenburg County Personnel Commission, and is a Barrister for the William Bobbitt Inn of Court.

Oppenheimer Welcomes Kathy Kimmel - Prominent Litigation Attorney
The Minneapolis law firm of Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly LLP is pleased to announce that Kathy S. Kimmel has joined the firm as a partner in the Business Litigation Group. Her practice focuses on representing clients in commercial, employment, fiduciary and real estate litigation.

Formerly a partner at Rider Bennett, Kimmel has a substantial practice in litigation and in advising clients on various business matters. She represents clients involved in contract negotiations and disputes, trust litigation and represents shareholders, officers and directors in intra-corporate disputes. She is also experienced in helping businesses protect their trade secrets and intellectual property from improper use and advises clients on employment agreements, including non-compete covenants. Kimmel is frequently in court representing clients seeking temporary restraining orders and other emergency relief. She has tried cases in both federal and state courts and in arbitration proceedings.

In addition to her law practice, Kimmel volunteers with Chrysalis Safety Project representing victims of domestic abuse. She is a guest legal commentator on FOX 9 Morning News and an adjunct professor of Business Law at the College of St. Catherine. Kimmel has been honored as a “Rising Star” in Minnesota Law & Politics for nine consecutive years. She is a member of the American, Minnesota State and Hennepin County Bar Associations as well as Minnesota Women Lawyers (MWL) and the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO).

Kimmel received her J.D., magna cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law and earned a B.A. from the University of St. Thomas.

As the Recruitment Manager and Pro Bono Coordinator, Ms. Billian will be responsible for the recruitment of law students, associates, and paralegals in each of the firms 9 offices. Ms. Billian brings to Miles & Stockbridge over 14 years of experience in the legal field and recruiting industry. Before joining Miles & Stockbridge, Ms. Billian worked as the Recruitment Coordinator at Saul Ewing LLP, where she assisted with the hiring of summer associates, attorneys and partners in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Prior to that, she worked at the University of Maryland School of Law as the Director of Employer Development, as well as a Placement Specialist/Legal Recruiter at a legal staffing agency in Baltimore for several years. Kummer Kaempfer Bonner Renshaw & Ferrario welcomes four law students as this year’s summer clerks
The statewide law firm of Kummer Kaempfer Bonner Renshaw & Ferrario (Kummer Kaempfer) is pleased to welcome Tyler Buswell, Valerie Del Grosso, Eric Gassman and Kim H. Nguyen as this year’s class of summer law clerks. Starting their clerkships mid-May, these second-year law students will work alongside attorneys in the transaction and litigation departments of Kummer Kaempfer’s Las Vegas office. The clerks will rotate departments in the middle of the summer in order to learn all aspects of the firm and its practice areas.

Kummer Kaempfer’s summer clerk program continues to grow each year with more applications from across the country being submitted for consideration. Three of this year’s students attend law school in California while one is pursuing his law degree in Utah. Their experiences range from internships within the legal and political fields and travel overseas to managing their own companies and volunteer service.

“Each year, we attract to the program the best and brightest candidates who are enthusiastic about learning and practicing law,” said Robert J. Gronauer, chairman of the recruiting committee of Kummer Kaempfer. “Our summer clerks are immersed in a variety of subjects and work closely with our attorneys to gain a greater understanding of the law and the dynamics of working at a full-service, statewide law firm. We believe these four talented individuals will be assets to our firm and our clients.”

Tyler Buswell attends S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah. He is expected to obtain a law degree in May 2008. Buswell’s past experience includes a clerkship for the Utah Attorney General’s office and a Utah law firm. He was also a judiciary committee intern for U.S. Sen. Orrin G. Hatch of Utah and co-founded the Utah State University Pre-Law Society. He will begin his clerkship in the litigation department of Kummer Kaempfer.

Valerie Del Grosso is a Las Vegas resident who attends Pepperdine University School of Law in California. She is expected to graduate in May 2008. She previously clerked for Apr-07 California law firm and has published an op-ed piece in the Las Vegas Sun. She received an undergraduate degree in international business and finance and Latin American studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in just two years. She will begin her clerkship in the firm’s litigation department.

Eric Gassman attends the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific in Sacramento, Calif. He is expected to graduate in May 2008. His experience includes a judicial externship with Judge Christopher M. Klein of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Eastern District of California and working at several Northern California law offices. In addition, Gassman created his own marketing company and spent a year working for a technology company in Israel. He will begin his clerkship in the transactional department of the firm.

Kim H. Nguyen attends the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law. She is expected to graduate in May 2008. She previously served as a law clerk in the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and completed an internship at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP. She also co-founded a small business where she oversaw the financial systems. She will begin her clerkship in the firm’s transactional department.

Bell inducted into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers
Attorney John W. Bell was recently inducted into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (IATL).

Membership in the Academy is limited to only 500 Fellows from the United States. The qualifications for membership are very high and the consideration of nominees is very extensive and thorough. Outstanding skills and extensive experience as a trial lawyer, unimpeachable personal and professional character, integrity and honesty, are but a few of the necessary qualities of every nominee. Mr. Bell has been evaluated by his/her colleagues and the judges in his/her jurisdiction and has been highly recommended by them as possessing these qualifications and characteristics.

The International Academy of Trial Lawyers was chartered in 1954. In general, its purposes are to cultivate the science of jurisprudence, promote reforms in the law, facilitate the Administration of Justice, and elevate the standards of integrity, honor and courtesy in the legal profession.

Mr. Bell is joined in IATL by Attorney William V. Johnson, an IATL member since 1987. Both are organizing and managing shareholders of Johnson & Bell.
