PHOENIX - Patricia Lee Refo Named one of the 50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America
Patricia Lee Refo, a partner with Snell & Wilmer, has been named one of the 50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America by the National Law Journal.

Refo was recognized for her extensive involvement with the American Bar Association, including serving as Chair of the Section of Litigation in 2003 and 2004. She oversaw a comprehensive analysis of federal jury trials, which resulted in the "Vanishing Trial" symposium and the creation of the American Jury Project, which she chaired. The Project developed Principles for Juries and Jury Trials approved by the House of Delegates in 2005, and which have been the foundation for jury reform efforts in a number of jurisdictions.

Refo also co-chairs fundraising efforts for the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, where she just was honored with the school’s Distinguished Achievement Medal. She has also served on the Advisory Committee on the Federal Rules of Evidence, and sits in the ABA House of Delegates. These initiatives, and managing her complex commercial litigation practice, have earned her this national recognition.

The list reflects not just some of the most influential women lawyers, but some of the “most influential lawyers, period,” explained Michael Moline of the National Law Journal. The National Law Journal asked readers to nominate women attorneys who have had a national impact in their fields and beyond during the last five years. They selected
women who “demonstrated power to change the legal landscape, shape public affairs, launch industries, and do big things.”

“I am honored to be included among these extraordinary women,” said Refo, “I am fortunate to be in a profession I love, with the opportunity to make a difference.” Refo’s practice is concentrated in complex commercial litigation; she represents clients in a variety of business matters including class actions and claims involving fiduciary duty contract, business torts, securities fraud and professional malpractice She has been listed in five issues of The Best Lawyers in America ® from 2003-2007.

Shughart Thomson & Kilroy Announces New Practice Area to Phoenix Office to be Led by Daniel Garrison
Marty Harper, managing partner of Shughart Thomson & Kilroy, P.C. in Phoenix, announced today the addition of the Bankruptcy practice area in the firm’s Phoenix office. Harper also announced that Daniel Garrison has joined the firm to lead this new practice area. Garrison, who is joining the firm as a shareholder, will focus on corporate restructuring and commercial bankruptcy matters.

“Dan’s experience in bankruptcy law, coupled with executive management experience during his pre-law days makes him extremely qualified to assist both debtors and creditors in completing successful restructurings,” said Harper. “As we continue to expand our bankruptcy practice, Dan will help foster regional ties with our six other offices around the country.”

Garrison, a Gilbert resident, has more than 12 years of legal experience in Arizona and Utah, most recently having served as a shareholder of Gallagher & Kennedy, P.A. in Phoenix. Garrison’s practice has focused on all aspects of corporate restructuring, workouts, turnarounds and dissolutions. Garrison also has held senior management positions in the retail and non-profit sectors.

“Dealing with troubled companies and their constituencies is quite challenging and rewarding, and there is a growing need for experienced restructuring attorneys in our area. I am excited to join a Valley firm with a regional presence that is so committed to growing its Phoenix office,” said Garrison.

Garrison received his bachelor’s degree and juris doctorate from the University of Utah. He is currently a member of the Arizona and Utah State Bars, American Bar Association, American Bankruptcy Institute, Turnaround Management Association and the Phoenicians, a standing committee of the Greater Phoenix Area Chamber of Commerce. Scott E. Hennigh has moved his practice to Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP from Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner LLP, where he was a partner in the Construction and Government Contracts Group. He will be joining as a partner in Sheppard Mullin's expanding San Francisco office.

Hennigh has substantial first-chair trial experience in complex commercial litigation, and specializes in cases concerning both private real-estate development projects, as well as public works projects with government entities. His client base consists primarily of California companies engaged in construction projects throughout the state.

"Scott brings significant trial experience to the firm's well-regarded real estate practice, one of the largest in the state. His substantial background in litigation dovetails well with the San Francisco office's real estate and construction group," said Guy Halgren, chairman of the firm.

Commented Hennigh, "Sheppard Mullin gives me what I believe to be a unique platform to provide efficiency and value to clients. The firm is entrenched throughout California, with offices in the major geographic markets that are the targets of growth in the state's construction and public infrastructure industries. That, coupled with its deep combined knowledge base of not only real estate law, but also state and federal government contracts law, will provide excellent resources to service current and future clients."

"Scott is a skilled practitioner whose particular experience in representing clients in the public and private construction sector is a natural complement to Sheppard Mullin," said Betsy McDaniel, managing partner of the firm's San Francisco office. "His arrival also further strengthens our San Francisco office, with Scott being the second litigation partner to join the office in as many months."

Last month, litigation partner Arthur J. Friedman joined Sheppard Mullin's San Francisco office with real estate partner Judy V. Davidoff in April, as part of a six attorney team that previously practiced at Steefel, Levitt & Weiss in San Francisco. With the addition of Hennigh, the office's attorney headcount is now at 83 (for the first time in its 25-year history).
