Frost Brown Todd welcomes new advertising law attorney to its Cincinnati office
Frost Brown Todd LLC, one of the region’s largest full-service law firms, is pleased to announce the arrival of Nilesh S. Patel to its Cincinnati office.

Nilesh “Neal” Patel has joined the Firm as Of Counsel in the Intellectual Property Department and the First Amendment, Media and Advertising Law practice group. Fisher & Phillips Partners Elect Charles Caulkins to Management Committee
The Partners at Fisher & Phillips LLP elected Charles Caulkins to the firm’s Management Committee. Mr. Caulkins begins his three year term on June 1, 2007. Mr. Caulkins will continue as the managing partner of the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office, a position he has held for 22 years. Fisher & Phillips is one of the largest labor and employment law firms in the United States.

Mr. Caulkins joins Thomas Rebel and Roger Quillen on the Management Committee, which serves as a board of directors for the 18-office labor and employment law firm. Mr. Quillen is chairman of the management committee. Each member is elected to a three year term in staggered elections.

Mr. Caulkins said, "It is an honor to have my colleagues select me to serve on the Management Committee. I am committed to working with the other committee members to continue to grow Fisher & Phillips and to continue to provide excellent service to our clients who come to us for assistance with their labor and employment matters."

Mr. Quillen added, "Charley has been an integral part of the firm’s management for many years, both in Florida and nationally. His experience and expertise will benefit the entire firm in many ways over the next three years.

Briggs’ Mike Lafeber on “Top 40” IP List
Shareholder Michael M. Lafeber of the firm Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association, is named in the “Top 40” list of the state’s leading intellectual property attorneys, as seen in the June/July 2007 issue of Minnesota Law & Politics.

Mike Lafeber is a member of the firm’s trade regulation section, practicing in intellectual property litigation; trademarks, patents and copyright disputes; commercial litigation; and unfair and deceptive trade practice litigation. He received his B.S. from St. John’s University and his law degree cum laude from the University of Minnesota, where he was director of the Civil Rights Moot Court. He served as law clerk to the Honorable Ann D. Montgomery, then U.S. Magistrate Judge, District of Minnesota (currently federal district court judge), and the Honorable Gary Larson, Hennepin County district court judge.

Lafeber is a current co-chair of the American Bar Association Intellectual Property Roundtable, a former member of the board of directors for the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association, past chair of the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association New Lawyers Committee and past chair of the Defense Research Institute’s Young Lawyers Corporate Counsel Committee. In addition to this “top 40” designation, Minnesota Law & Politics has also named Lafeber a “Super Lawyer.” He joined Briggs in 2002.

Seven Law Students Join Williams Kastner as Summer Associates
Williams Kastner welcomes six law students to its Seattle office, and one law student to its Portland office, as summer associates:

Kristina Johnson will receive her J.D. in spring 2007 from Duke University School of Law. She earned her B.A. in Political Science at the University of Washington. Her international volunteer experience includes being a caretaker at an orphanage in Calcutta, India, interning at an anti-slavery organization in Ghana and working at the United Nations' African headquarters in Kenya.

William Aloe will receive his J.D. in spring 2008 from Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. He earned his B.A. in Political Science at Amherst College. He grew up in Sewickley, PA.

Samantha Gatto will receive her J.D. in spring 2008 from the Seattle University School of Law. She earned her B.A. in Communications at the University of Washington. Her study abroad experience was published in the January 2007 edition of Student Lawyer (American Bar Association). She grew up in Alaska.

Elizabeth Hebener will receive her J.D. in spring 2008 from the University of Arizona Rogers College of Law. She earned her B.A. in Government at Georgetown University and is a 1999 graduate of Coeur d'Alene High School in Idaho.

John Fetters will receive his J.D. in spring 2008 from the Seattle University School of Law. He earned his B.A. in Communications at Washington State University. He is an associate editor for the Seattle College Law Review and was the first place finisher in the 2007 Frederic C. Tausend Appellate Competition. He grew up in Vancouver, Washington.

Samantha Noonan will receive her J.D. in spring 2009 from the Seattle University School of Law. She earned her B.S. in Hotel Administration at Cornell University. Prior to law school, Samantha was an officer in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Ross (DDG-71). She grew up in Connecticut.

Williams Kastner also welcomes summer associate Rachel Crocker to its Portland office. She will receive her J.D. in 2008 from the Willamette University College of Law. She earned her B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Oregon. Rachel is the 2007-2008 symposium editor for Willamette Law Review and the 2007-2008 editor in chief of Willamette Law Online, a case summary publication.

WENDEL ROSEN EXPANDS LITIGATION PRACTICE WITH THE ADDITION OF ASSOCIATE KURT WENDLENNER
Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean LLP announces the addition of Kurt C. Wendlenner as an associate to the firm’s litigation practice.

Joining from McCormick, Barstow, Sheppard, Wayte & Carruth LLP in Fresno, Calif., Wendlenner gained litigation experience in corporate liability, professional liability, civil rights and personal injury law. Previously, he clerked with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office and the California Attorney General’s Office in Sacramento, and worked as a legislative intern in Washington D.C. for United States Congressman Howard P. McKeon. Wendlenner earned his J.D. from the University of California, Davis School of Law (2005) and a B.A. in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles (2002).

Ms. Mahoney is very active in non-profit organizations, most notably, Care Alliance, a non-profit organization providing health care to low-income and homeless members of the community, where she was recently recognized with a Shining Star Award for her service, leadership and excellence.

Apollo raises £640m with high yield bond issue to finance Countrywide acquisition
Castle HoldCo 4, Ltd., an acquisition vehicle established by several private equity funds advised by Apollo Management L.P., this month completed a high yield bond issue totalling £640m, consisting of £370m in senior secured floating rate notes, £100m in senior secured floating rate toggle PIK notes and £170m in senior notes. The proceeds were used to finance a portion of the acquisition price for Countrywide plc, the leading estate-agency based residential property service provider in the United Kingdom, which completed on 21 May 2007. The notes will be listed on the Irish Stock Exchange. The financing package also included a £100m revolving credit facility with high yield incurrence covenants.

International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer advised Apollo on US and UK law. The bookrunners were Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs International. Freshfields also advised Apollo on the interim and bridge financing supporting the cash commitment required to make the bid for Countrywide.

The Freshfields team was led from London by US partners Don Guiney and Sarah Murphy, assisted by US corporate associates Doug Smith and Dan McNamee.
