Kirkland & Ellis LLP Adds Experienced Corporate Partner to Chicago Office
"Kirkland & Ellis LLP is pleased to announce that Henry Kleeman has joined the Firm as a partner in its corporate practice. Mr. Kleeman comes to Kirkland’s Chicago office from Innovene Inc., one of the world’s largest petrochemical companies.

Mr. Kleeman has more than 20 years experience as a corporate and securities lawyer. His practice focuses on public company legal matters including mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and global compliance.

At Innovene, he held the position of senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. In October 2005, he managed the legal separation of Innovene from its parent company, bp p.l.c. The subsidiary was sold to Ineos Group Holdings for $9 billion in the largest leveraged transaction in Europe to date. Prior to Innovene, Mr. Kleeman served as vice president, deputy general counsel and global business practices officer at Sara Lee.

Kirkland & Ellis International LLP Closes Terra Firma Fund
"Kirkland & Ellis International LLP has announced that private equity client Terra Firma has held its final closing of Terra Firma Capital Partners III with total commitments of $5.4 billion. The fund experienced high demand and the successful fund raising saw Terra Firma comfortably exceed its original target. Terra Firma and the team invested over $200 million in the fund. The announcement also comes on the back of Terra Firma’s recent $3.2 billion recommended bid for EMI.

This marks an impressive start for the new private funds partners Mark Mifsud, Richard Watkins and Justin Dolling who recently joined Kirkland & Ellis from SJ Berwin.

The Kirkland & Ellis team was led by Richard Watkins and senior associate Jenny Kapusniak.

Richard commented “We very much enjoyed working with Terra Firma and congratulate them on a hugely successful fundraising”."

Bryan Beauman Named President of Kentucky Chapter of Federal Bar Association
Sturgill, Turner, Barker & Moloney, PLLC, is pleased to announce that Bryan H. Beauman, a member of the firm, will serve as the President of the Federal Bar Association (Kentucky Chapter) for 2007-2008. Bryan practices in the areas of Civil Litigation, Constitutional Law and Civil Rights, and Public Entity and Governmental Defense. Bryan is a 1997 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law. He has been admittted to practice in Kentucky since 1997 and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the U.S. District Courts (Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky).

Jackson Lewis Opens Birmingham Office
Continuing with their national expansion plans, Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country's leading workplace law firms, announced today that it has opened a Birmingham, Ala. office with four partners: Thomas A. Davis, Tammy L. Baker, David T. Wiley, and Shannon L. Miller. All four were formerly partners with the Atlanta-based law firm Constangy, Brooks & Smith, where they led the firm's Birmingham litigation team.

"These are substantial lawyers with excellent reputations," says Patrick L. Vaccaro, managing partner of Jackson Lewis. "We've been on a fairly aggressive initiative to add laterals nationwide and we've been extremely opportunistic when situations arise. We were excited when we heard these four were interested in Jackson Lewis."

The Birmingham office will handle all aspects of workplace law and related matters representing management exclusively. This includes employment litigation, policy review, restrictive covenants, labor relations and preventive practices, benefits, affirmative action compliance, wage/hour and class action litigation. Jackson Lewis has many specialized practice groups including other areas of workplace law such as disability management, immigration, and drug/substance abuse, which will enhance the scope of efficient and effective services Jackson Lewis's Birmingham office is able to provide their clients.

Thomas A. Davis has experience in all aspects of legal practice related to the workplace, including multi-plaintiff and class-action litigation, as well as preventive strategies for employers. Before joining Constangy, Davis was a law clerk for Judge Robert B. Propst, U.S. District Court, Birmingham, Ala. Davis is a frequent lecturer on human resource-related topics and has been recognized as one of the best lawyers in America by Chambers USA. Last year, the Birmingham Business Journal included Davis in their "Top 40 under 40." Davis is a member of the American, Alabama, and Birmingham Bar Associations.

Tammy L. Baker has experience in all aspects of legal practice related to the workplace, including multi-plaintiff and class action litigation, as well as advising employers regarding compliance with FMLA and other employment laws. Before joining Constangy, Baker was a law clerk for Chief Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ala. Baker speaks often on employment related topics, including at local and national conferences of the Society for Human Resource Management. Baker has been recognized as one of the best lawyers in America by Chambers USA's "America's Leading Lawyers for Business," and the Birmingham Business Journal named Baker as "Best of the Bar." Baker is a member of the American, Alabama, and Birmingham Bar Associations.

David T. Wiley has experience in all aspects of legal practice related to the workplace, including providing legal counsel regarding workers compensation and human resource policies, practices, and strategies. Wiley is a regular speaker at the Alabama Bar, Labor & Employment Section Annual Seminar, Tuscaloosa Human Resource Management Conference, and other legal seminars and conferences. Wiley has written articles for several publications, including The Labor Lawyer, The Fair Labor Standards Act (a BNA publication), Age Discrimination in Employment Law (BNA), and The Georgia Law Review. Wiley is a member of the American, Alabama, and Birmingham Bar Associations.

Shannon L. Miller has experience in all aspects of legal practice related to the workplace, including multi-plaintiff and class-action litigation and affirmative action compliance. Miller was a law clerk for Judge James H. Hancock, U.S. District Court, Birmingham, Ala. Miller is a regular speaker at Lorman and other legal conferences and seminars. Miller is a member of the American, Alabama, and Birmingham Bar Associations.

King & Spalding Continues the Aggressive Expansion of its IP Practice With the Arrival of Partner Ethan Horwitz in New York
Maintaining an aggressive pace for the expansion of its intellectual property practice, King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, announced today that Ethan Horwitz, a top-ranked trademark and patent litigator, has joined its New York office as a partner. Horwitz was a partner and chairman of the intellectual property practice of Goodwin Procter.

King & Spalding’s intellectual property practice has grown at an average rate of one new partner a month since September 2006. Horwitz’s arrival marks the fifth new IP partner in the New York office and the 10th new IP partner at the firm in that time frame.

“We are excited to welcome Ethan to King & Spalding and look forward to the substantial contributions he will make to the firm and our clients,” said Michael J. O’Brien, managing partner of King & Spalding’s New York office. “The steady growth of our IP practice in New York is indicative of the firm’s investment in this office and our ongoing commitment to fully serve our clients’ needs.”

Horwitz has more than 25 years of experience in intellectual property law. He has advised clients in a full range of intellectual property services and litigated patent, trademark, trade dress, copyright and false advertising cases in the United States and internationally. His practice includes worldwide acquisition and enforcement of intellectual property and advising clients on the enforcement of their intellectual property.

Courtland L. Reichman, head of King & Spalding’s intellectual property practice, said, “Over the past 25 years, Ethan has developed a reputation as a top-flight intellectual property trial lawyer, handling an impressive roster of precedent-setting cases. He will be a key player in our continuing efforts to enhance the IP services we provide our clients.”

Horwitz’s experience in patent litigation includes an historic patent case in which he obtained the first-ever preliminary injunction on a design patent on behalf of Oscar Mayer for the company’s Lunchables product. In a landmark case, he obtained a preliminary injunction on behalf of Pepperidge Farm based on the company’s rights to the shape of its Goldfish crackers. He is the author of three prominent treatises on intellectual property law published by Matthew Bender & Co. These are Patent Litigation: Procedures and Tactics (3 volumes), Intellectual Property Counseling and Litigation (7 volumes) and World Trademark Law And Practice (5 volumes). Horwitz earned a J.D. degree at St. John’s University School of Law, an M.S. degree at New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences and a B.S. degree at Polytechnic Institute.

Horwitz was preceded at King & Spalding’s New York office by the recent arrival of IP partners Katie McCarthy, Richard Pettus, Peg Brivanlou, Ph.D., and Ken Sonnenfeld, Ph.D. Since September 2006, five additional IP partners have joined the firm in its Houston and Atlanta locations. These are John Harbin, Tony Askew, Steve Schaetzel and Jim Johnson, Ph.D., in Atlanta, and Todd Mattingly, in Houston.

King & Spalding’s New York IP group has grown to 35 lawyers and patent agents and the firm's IP practice overall now numbers over 100 lawyers and patent agents.

GODFREY & KAHN EXPANDS LEGAL TEAM IN SHANGHAI OFFICE
Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. is pleased to announce the addition of Sophie Zhang, a Chinese national, to the firm’s Shanghai office. Zhang will be responsible for assisting clients in establishing Chinese operations, conducting Chinese legal research and translating documents. She will receive her master’s degree in law from Fudan University in July 2007.

Most recently, Zhang worked as a legal assistant at the law firm of Jin Mao P.R.C. Lawyers, where she analyzed and updated materials on PRC laws and regulations, drafted and reviewed legal documents and conducted legal research. Previously, she was employed at the law firm of Duan & Duan.

Gentry Locke Adds New Attorney to Litigation Team
The Roanoke law firm of Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore, LLP has added Travis J. Graham to its growing Commercial Litigation practice group.
Mr. Graham worked with a law firm in Knoxville, Tennessee for the past eight years, where he developed significant civil litigation experience. He recently served as an adjunct Professor or Law at The University of Tennessee College of Law. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Graham served as a law clerk to the Honorable Glen M. Williams, Senior United States District Judge for the Western District of Virginia.

Mr. Graham is a native of Danville, Virginia, and received his undergraduate degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Mr. Graham was the class valedictorian of The University of Tennessee College of Law in 1998, where he earned his law degree and was named the 1998 Outstanding Graduate. He has been honored with the Order of the Coif and is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society
