Fulbright Partner Named Energy Bar Association President
Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. partner Michael Manning has started a year-long term as president of the Energy Bar Association.

The Energy Bar Association is a non-profit organization composed of about 2,500 attorneys, non-attorney professionals and students whose mission is to promote the professional excellence and ethical integrity of its members in the practice, administration, and development of energy laws, regulations and policies.

Manning has more than three decades of experience in energy law and was selected to the Best Lawyers in America’s list for 2006 and 2007 for his energy work.

“I'm looking forward to the challenge of leading the Energy Bar Association at a time when growing energy demands underscore the importance of the competent professionals who are committed to our field,” Manning said. “The Energy Bar Association is in a strong place right now, with a growing membership and more educational opportunities than ever before. My goal is to continue building on the momentum already in place.”

In the 2005-2006 term, Manning served vice president and the following year as president-elect. For each office, Manning was nominated by the Nominations Committee and then elected by the membership. Under association bylaws, the president-elect automatically succeeds to the office of President.

Manning has served on several committees for the association, including co-chair for the programs committee, chair for the Natural Gas Regulation committee and vice-chair for the Oil Pipeline Regulation committee. He’s also served on the board of directors for the Foundation of the Energy Law Journal, which the Energy Bar Association publishes, and the organization’s charitable foundation.

He has represented a wide variety of corporate and individual energy clients in commercial transactions and in regulatory matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Department of Energy, the Department of the Interior, and various U.S. Federal District Courts and United States Circuit Courts of Appeals.

Before joining Fulbright in 1973, Manning served as the attorney advisor to the Honorable A.B. Brook, Jr., vice chairman of the Federal Power Commission, which is now known as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

“Mike brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Energy Bar Association that other energy practitioners across the country will benefit from greatly while he is president,” said Michael Irvin, the head of Fulbright’s global energy practice. “He’s continuing Fulbright’s history of being a leader in the industry and doing whatever he can to give back.”

Fulbright is recognized as a premier energy firm with a diversified practice that serves the needs of the global energy industry. With more than 70 years of experience in energy matters, Fulbright’s attorneys regularly are involved in international and domestic energy matters.
