WFW Rome Office
After four years of being in partnership with Watson, Farley & Williams, Carlo Galdo has decided to resume his own practice and from 1 June 2007 will be practising under the name of Studio Avv Carlo Galdo together with assistants, Alfredo Lizio, Konstantinos Polidos and Sara di Maria.

This decision has been amicably reached in full agreement with WFW and WFW and Carlo Galdo are keen to resume and further develop the mutual collaboration, which existed for many years before Carlo Galdo entered into partnership with WFW.

At the same time Vincenzo Dispinzeri, who joined as a partner in September 2006, has decided to leave the firm and set up his own practice.

WFW will continue with its Rome practice, led by Eugenio Tranchino, with assistants Elvezio Santarelli, Agnese Rocco and Francesca Barbaro and trainee Tiziana Manenti. For the immediate future the two offices will remain at the same address.

Compass sells ECO Group to Luvata
Compass Partners European Equity Fund has sold ECO SpA, the world's foremost manufacturer of heat-transfer coils and coolers, to Finnish industrial component maker Luvata. The ECO Group currently employs around 2,400 staff and reported net sales of €325m in 2006. The headquarters of the combined organisation, consisting of ECO and Luvata's coils business unit will be situated in Pocenia, Italy.

International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer advised Compass Partners on this transaction. The Freshfields team was led by London corporate partner Laurie McFadden with corporate associate Stephen McCleery in Milan, plus antitrust competition and trade partner Gian Luca Zampa (Rome).

Michael A. Bono Named Partner in WCM
WCM is pleased to announce that effective July 1, 2007, Michael A. Bono is a Partner in WCM’s New York office.

A former prosecutor, Mr. Bono’s practice focuses on insurance and re-insurance, errors and omissions, professional liability, fraud investigations, intellectual property, maritime and cargo losses, and due diligence work.

Pierce Atwood LLP Underwrites Entrepreneurs Through Campus Ventures Program
As a founding sponsor of the recently created Campus Ventures program at the Maine Center for Enterprise Development (MCED) at USM, Pierce Atwood LLP has donated $5,000 to support aspiring entrepreneurs who are seeking to commercialize new business ideas.

The law firm’s donation will underwrite the costs associated with a one-year residency within the MCED incubator program, where the organization provides services to the winner and finalists in the 6th Annual USM Student Business Plan Competition.

“We currently have six student companies on-site, each receiving free access to office space and business counseling services that include commercialization strategies and guidance in obtaining early-stage financing,” said John Ferland, president of MCED.

In addition to the Campus Ventures donation, Pierce Atwood LLP also offers pro bono legal counsel to the winner of the USM Student Business Plan Competition, as part of the $15,000 package of free services provided to the winning business plan. This year’s winner –Silver Performance Gear -- was announced April 11.

“The future of Maine’s economy is in the hands of entrepreneurs who are pursuing technological innovation. Our association with the Maine Center For Enterprise Development allows us the opportunity to assist the state’s future business leaders. We are honored to be involved in such an important program,” said Bruce Coggeshall, managing partner at Pierce Atwood LLP.

The MCED and the USM School of Business have had a program level partnership since 2003. In 2006, the collaboration matured into a formal economic development agreement between the University and the MCED whereby the center becomes a partner in helping to grow USM's emerging, institution-wide technology transfer and commercialization efforts.

Four Mintz Levin Members Named San Diego Super Lawyers
Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. announced that four of the firm's attorneys -- Mitch Danzig, Jeffry A. Davis, Daniel T. Pascucci, and Eddie Rodriguez -- were selected as San Diego Super Lawyers for 2007. The list appears in the May 20, 2007 issue of The New York Times in San Diego, the San Diego Union-Tribune, and in the stand alone magazine, Southern California Super Lawyers - San Diego Edition. San Diego Super Lawyers are selected based upon ballots sent by Law & Politics to over 10,000 area attorneys. Only five percent of San Diego lawyers were named 2007 San Diego Super Lawyers.

Mitch Danzig is a member in the firm's San Diego office and practices in the Employment, Labor and Benefits, Litigation, Israel Business and Intellectual Property Sections. He has extensive experience in employment law and in intellectual property litigation. Mr. Danzig's work focuses on litigation in the areas of wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, employee raiding, trade secrets, contracts, defamation, and unfair competition. As part of his counseling practice, Mitch has performed management training for employers and regularly renders employment advice on various employment related issues. Admitted to practice in the state of California, Mr. Danzig is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He received his B.A., cum laude, from Hunter College (1990), and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Arizona College of Law (1995).

Jeffry A. Davis is a member in the firm's San Diego office, practicing in the Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Commercial Law Section. Mr. Davis' practice is focused on all aspects of bankruptcy (including debtors, creditors, and committees), out of court workouts, insolvency, receiverships, and debtor/creditor rights. He is also a commercial law litigator, in areas such as contract and business disputes. Mr. Davis has been included in Best Lawyers in America every year since 1997. He is admitted to practice in California and New York, as well as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Turnaround Management Association, the San Diego Bankruptcy Forum, the American Bar Association, and the California and San Diego Bar Associations. He received his B.A. from the State University of New York (1977) and his J.D. from Boston University School of Law (1980).

Daniel T. Pascucci is a member in the firm's San Diego office, practicing in the Litigation Section. His practice is focused on complex business litigation, intellectual property litigation, class action defense and telecommunications. Mr. Pascucci has extensive experience litigating patents, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets. He is a member of the Federal Bar Association, the Federal Communications Bar, the California Bar Association, and the San Diego Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in California and before the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Northern, Central and Eastern Districts of California. He received his B.A. from Fordham University (1990), and his J.D., cum laude, from Pepperdine University School of Law (1993).

Eddie Rodriguez is a member in the firm's San Diego office, practicing in the Business and Finance Section. His practice focuses on a wide range of corporate and securities matters, including corporate formation, mergers and acquisitions, venture financing, technology licensing, and general business counseling. He has extensive experience with counseling public and private companies in the life science, telecommunications, software, hardware, e-commerce and information technology industries in a broad range of transactional matters. Mr. Rodriguez has represented clients in more than 200 mergers and acquisition transactions, investors and private companies in numerous private equity financings valued in excess of $200 million, and clients in numerous securities offerings. He was named to Lawdragon's Lawdragon 500 New Stars, New Worlds, a guide that recognizes "the freshest faces in American law," and The Daily Transcript's 2006 "Transcript Ten," a list of San Diego's top attorneys across all practice areas. He was also named to The Daily Transcript's "Top Influential People" in San Diego in 2006. He received his B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles and his J.D. from Stanford Law School. Chip Phinney, Susan Cohen and Susan Finegan to be Recognized for Pro Bono Efforts in the Wake of the New Bedford Immigration Raid
The Standing Committee on Pro Bono Publico Legal Services will recognize each of the many attorneys who volunteered pro bono legal services on behalf of the workers who were arrested in the New Bedford immigration raid on March 6, 2007. Included are Mintz Levin attorneys Chip Phinney, Susan Cohen and Susan Finegan. The Committee will present a certificate of recognition to each at the awards ceremony for the Adams Pro Bono Publico Awards on Monday, June 4 at 4:30 p.m. in the Supreme Judicial Court courtroom at the John Adams Courthouse.
