Henson & Efron Attorney Court J. Anderson Recovers Almost 100% of Client Damages
Court J. Anderson brought a proceeding against ABN AMRO on behalf of Ed Kivel and Lisa Mensing-Kivel alleging fraud, violations of the Equal Opportunity Credit Act (EEOC), Minnesota statutes, and related common law claims. Anderson successfully recovered the entirety of the damages caused to the Kivels as a result of the ABN AMRO’s denial of their loan and recovered almost all of the attorneys’ fees incurred by the Kivels in connection with their lawsuit against ABN AMRO.

The Kivels went on to testify before committees of the Minnesota House of Representatives and Senate concerning their case. Below is a link to the Minneapolis Star Tribune article concerning their story and their testimony.

Job D. (Darby) Turner selected to the Junior Achievement Bluegrass Business Hall of Fame
Greenebaum Doll & McDonald PLLC has announced that Job D. (Darby) Turner, a Member in the firm’s Lexington office, has been named to the Junior Achievement of the Bluegrass Business Hall of Fame. The Bluegrass Business Hall of Fame pays tribute to selected business leaders for achievement in their careers, service to the community and their part as role models for youth.

Turner is a member of the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group and the Tax and Finance Group. His practice focuses on general corporate representation, real estate law, including representation before the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Planning and Zoning Commission, and business and estate planning matters. Turner served on the Greenebaum management committee for 15 years and as Member-in-Charge of the firm’s Lexington and Frankfort offices for the past seven years.

In addition to his other civic involvement, Turner served as Chairman of Commerce Lexington, President of the Lexington Rotary Club, Chairman of the United Way, and as a member of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee. He received both an undergraduate degree and law degree from the University of Kentucky.

Hildebrand Receives the Charles L. Goldberg Distinguished Service Award
Daniel W. Hildebrand, a senior litigator with DeWitt Ross & Stevens in Madison, received the Charles L. Goldberg Distinguished Service Award. The Wisconsin Law Foundation presents this award, which recognizes lifetime achievement of legal professionals who have a record of service to the profession and to the public.

“For 15 years, Dan has helped shape important ABA policies in an extraordinary range of legal and social issues - from protecting civil rights and civil liberties for all in our country, to enhancing access to the justice system for the more than 40 million Americans who live in poverty,” says Kathleen Grant, WLF president. “His service and commitment to the Bar and the public have been extraordinary.”

Hildebrand has over 40 years of legal experience, with a major focus in appellate work as well as in all areas of business and professional litigation, and professional ethics matters. He is a former president of the State Bar, the Wisconsin Law Foundation, and the Dane County Bar Association. He has served as a member and chair of the Wisconsin Judicial Commission, a member of the board of Legal Action of Wisconsin Inc., and chair of the Wisconsin Supreme Court Code of Professional Responsibility Review Committee. He is a Fellow of the Wisconsin Law Foundation and the American Bar Association (ABA).

Hildebrand chairs the Wisconsin Ethics 2000 Committee, appointed by the Wisconsin Supreme Court to review Chapter 20, the Rules of Professional Conduct for Attorneys.

Hildebrand was appointed by the president of the ABA to its Amicus Curiae Briefs Committee where he participates in reviews of all amicus curiae briefs filed by the ABA in the U.S. Supreme Court. He also is Apr-07 member of the ABA Litigation Section’s Trial Practice Committee. He served six years as a member of the ABA’s Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility, 14 years as a Wisconsin delegate to the ABA House of Delegates, and recently completed a three-year term with the ABA Board of Governors.

Hildebrand regularly accepts appointments to represent indigent criminal defendants who desire to appeal their convictions to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit.

Douglas H. Frazer Named 2007 Burton Award Winner
Metro Milwaukee DeWitt Ross & Stevens tax partner, Douglas H. Frazer was named a 2007 Burton Award Winner. The Burton Award for Legal Achievement honors effective legal writing by law firm partners and law students who write in a clear and understandable prose. Frazer was among the 30 individuals selected by the awards committee from hundreds of applications submitted by the largest 1,000 law firms in the nation.

Frazer was chosen for his article “Absurdist Humor and the Form-Substance Dialectic in Tax Law.” The article appeared in the August 21, 2006 edition of Tax Notes. Frazer and the other recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony in the Great Hall of the Library of Congress in Washington, DC on June 4, 2007. The guest speaker at the event will be Bob Schieffer, CBS News’ chief Washington correspondent. The Master of Ceremonies will be Bill Press, formerly of CNN’s Crossfire.

6 Madison Lawyers Named Rising Stars by National Magazine
Six lawyers from DeWitt Ross & Stevens have been named as Rising Stars by the national publication Law & Politics. Rising Stars are top lawyers age 40 or younger or in practice 10 years or less. It is the first time Law & Politics has conducted the Rising Star survey in Wisconsin.

DeWitt Ross & Stevens is a full-service law firm with offices in Madison and Metro Milwaukee. Selected as Rising Stars are Mindy Rowland Buenger, Bryan Esch, Brad Fulton, Michele Perreault, Brad Raaths and Megan Senatori.

Buenger is a litigator with a concentration on broad labor and employment issues, as well as appeals and general litigation; Esch is a business and corporate attorney who also addresses estate planning needs; Fulton is a litigator whose practice focuses on labor and employment issues, particularly in municipalities and the construction industry; Perreault is a family lawyer and litigator whose practice covers premarital agreements and adoptions to divorce and guardianship issues; Raaths is a business and corporate attorney who focuses his practice on tax and transaction issues; and Senatori is a litigator whose practice covers employment issues, appeals and general litigation, as well as animal and veterinary concerns.

Esch practices out of the law firm’s Madison West office; Buenger, Fulton, Perreault, Raaths and Senatori are located in the firm’s Capitol Square office in Madison.

Law & Politics conducts both the Rising Star and Super Lawyers surveys. Selection for the designations involves peer nominations, a panel-review process, and independent research. Nominations from lawyers in other law firms carry more weight than nominations from lawyers in the same law firm. Each candidate’s record is reviewed to assure good standing with the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Only 2.5 percent of Wisconsin’s 15,214 attorneys were accorded Rising Star status. All Rising Stars will be recognized in a special section of December issue of Milwaukee Magazine, as well as published in the Wisconsin Super Lawyers magazine/directory sent to lawyers in Wisconsin. In addition, all Rising Stars are listed on the web site www. superlawyers.com. Produced by Law & Politics magazine, annual Rising Stars surveys are now conducted in 48 states.

Nineteen lawyers from DeWitt Ross & Stevens have been named to the second edition of Wisconsin Super Lawyers, as a result of a survey conducted by the national publication Law & Politics. DeWitt Ross & Stevens is a full-service law firm with offices in Madison and Metro Milwaukee.

Law Librarian is Unsung Hero Nominee
Richard “Rick” Hendricks, Madison, Wisconsin, was one of seven honorees in the Law Librarian category for the new statewide award, “Unsung Heroes,” established by Wisconsin Law Journal.

The law librarian and information resource center coordinator at DeWitt Ross & Stevens law firm, Hendricks was cited for his invaluable skills as a researcher, as well as for his calm professionalism when dealing with tight deadlines. Hendricks ferrets out information both routine and obscure, from case law to statutory to regulatory issues, compiles secondary research across a broad range of disciplines, researches corporate and financial records, and works extensively in litigation support assisting in the editing and filing of court records and briefs.
