Bryan Cave Establishes Office in Hamburg, Germany
Bryan Cave LLP announced today the opening of an office in Hamburg, Germany. The office is expected to be open and operating by Aug. 1. This follows the May 17 announcement that Bryan Cave is opening an office in Milan, Italy.

The Hamburg office will be led by Dr. Michael Leue, currently a partner with the German firm Buse Heberer Fromm. It is anticipated that a group of four lawyers also will initially join Bryan Cave’s Hamburg office, with additional partners and associates joining in the near future. Lawyers in the Hamburg office will provide a broad range of legal services to the firm's business clients, including an initial focus on commercial transactions, corporate, finance and mergers and acquisitions.

“The opening of offices in Milan and Hamburg underscores our commitment to Europe,” said Don Lents, chairman of Bryan Cave. “Michael Leue and his team provide us with a great start in the German market. I am confident that Michael, together with our partners in Milan and London, will help Bryan Cave continue to grow our capabilities throughout Europe.”

“Bryan Cave has a long history of practicing in the German market, as well as German-speaking partners in Italy, the UK and the US who have substantial experience with German clients,” said Fred Bartelsmeyer, Bryan Cave partner who will serve as liaison between Bryan Cave's new Milan and Hamburg offices and the remainder of the firm. “Consistent with our one-firm philosophy, the Hamburg office will be supported by teams formed across practice groups and between offices.”

Germany is the largest economy in Europe, and the third largest worldwide. Hamburg has the fastest growing port in Europe. The city is the second wealthiest in the European Union after London, and is a center of international trade.

Leue received his Ph.D. in 1997 from the Universities of Mainz and Potsdam, his LL.M. in 1994 from the University of Edinburgh, and he completed his law studies at the Universities of Mainz and Freiburg. Leue was the first German member on the executive committee of the European Legal Alliance, a 700-member exclusive law firm alliance. He recently was the leader of the corporate practice group of the Alliance and has been the German member of the North American initiative of the Alliance.

Chris Spataro Receives Michiana Forty Under 40 Award
Chris Spataro's commitment to improving the community earned the Baker & Daniels LLP partner one of the Michiana Region's Forty Under 40 Awards.

Forty of the region's business leaders under the age of 40 were selected from hundreds of nominations based on both professional initiative and personal involvement in the community. Honorees came from throughout northern Indiana and southwestern lower Michigan to be honored during a luncheon at Bethel College on June 1.

The Forty Under 40 program was launched in Michiana as a partnership among Bethel College, regional chambers of commerce, The Truth of Elkhart County and South Bend Tribune. The project was patterned after similar programs in other metropolitan areas.

At Baker & Daniels, Spataro focuses his practice in litigation, particularly on employment matters, creditors' rights issues and commercial litigation centering on RV related matters. He also represents individuals in family law, estate planning and other personal matters.

Outside the office, Spataro is an active volunteer in a number of community events, including the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl-a-Thon, American Cancer Society Relay for Life, United Cancer Services of Elkhart County Compassion Walk, ADEC Ride-a-Bike and Kiwanis Club fundraisers.

In April, Spataro was honorary chairman of the Compassion Walk in memory of his wife. Given two years to live after being diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1998, Anne Spataro lived for 8½ years until her death last Dec. 23. Chris, who walked in the 2007 event with his 3½-year-old daughter and about 30 other friends, has been involved with United Cancer Services of Elkhart County since 2003. The organization supports cancer patients needing medication and other assistance.`
