ZKS is pleased to announce that Phyllis C. Smith has joined the firm as an associate in the Commercial Group. The primary focus of her practice is Probate & Trust Administration and Estate & Trust Planning. Mrs. Smith comes to the firm with thirteen years of experience and will practice in the area of estate planning. Mrs. Smith earned her Juris Doctor from Florida State University College of Law. She holds a L.L.M in Taxation from the University of Florida Levin College of Law as well as a Bachelor’s of Science from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). Mrs. Smith also served as an attorney for the Judge Advocate General’s Corp (JAG) assisting our nation’s military.

In addition to her legal work she also teaches at FAMU College of Law. David J. Rosenberg Bikes to Raise Scholarship Funds
Firm partner David J. Rosenberg is biking from Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C. to raise funds for the Gary Walker Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by the International Association of Defense Counsel. This scholarship covers tuition for one worthy Trial Academy student each year. The scholarship is low on funds and is in danger of ending after this year, so Mr. Rosenberg is riding his bike on this impressive journey on June 14-17, 2007 to raise awareness and money to keep this fund going.

Tyler Cooper Attorney Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Tyler Cooper attorney James R. Greenfield has been selected to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Connecticut Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Mr. Greenfield will be given the award during a ceremony June 4, 2007 at the Quinnipiack Club.

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes longstanding service to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers; a 45-year-old organization made of 1,600 highly regarded divorce and family law attorneys from across the United States. The purpose of the organization is to elevate the standards and improve the practice of family law.

A member of the organization for 31 years, Mr. Greenfield served as president of the Connecticut chapter from 1993 to 1994. In addition to being a Fellow of the Connecticut chapter, he is a member of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

“We look on Jim as one of our mentors and founding fathers,” said Edward Nusbaum, president of the Connecticut chapter of the organization. “Jim has been a mainstay of the Academy since its inception.”

Mr. Greenfield is Of Counsel in Tyler Cooper’s New Haven office and is Chair of the firm’s Family Law Practice Group. He has been practicing matrimonial law in Connecticut for many years, handling divorce, child custody and property settlements. Mr. Greenfield has earned a reputation for professionalism and integrity in dealing with these inherently sensitive issues. As a result, several high-profile clients from the political and entertainment fields have sought his assistance over the years.

During the course of his long career, Mr. Greenfield has served professional legal organizations in leadership roles and has garnered awards for his service. He is a member of the American Bar Association and served on its Board of Governors from 1978 to 1981 and in its House of Delegates from 1972 to 1983. Mr. Greenfield is a member and former president of the Connecticut Bar Association and served as Chairman of that organization’s Ethics Committee for many years. He is also a member and former president of the New Haven County Bar Association and was previously given that organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Other awards Mr. Greenfield has received include the Service to the Profession Award of the Connecticut Law Tribune and the Distinguished Professional Services Award of the Connecticut Bar Association. Additionally, he has been listed in “Who’s Who in America” since 1981, has been included in “The Best Lawyers in America” since 1983, and has been designated a “Connecticut Super Lawyer.

Phelps Dunbar Partner Receives the Greater New Orleans, Inc. Outstanding Service Award and Elected to Board
Phelps Dunbar LLP is pleased to announce that John P. Manard, Jr. was recently honored with the Greater New Orleans (GNO), Inc. Outstanding Service Award and was elected to the Board of Directors of GNO, Inc. Mr. Manard has been very involved in GNO, Inc., a 10-parish economic development organization, and has served as the firm’s liaison to the organization for the past several years. He currently serves as the Chair of GNO, Inc.’s Insurance Task Force and has been responsible for working with GNO, Inc. to propose legislation related to the insurance industry post-Katrina. He traveled with a group of GNO, Inc. representatives on a lobbying trip to Washington, D.C. in July 2006. The group visited the U.S. Senate to discuss recovery and growth issues critical to the business community of New Orleans. Mr. Manard was also instrumental in developing a business development proposal on behalf of GNO, Inc. that was presented to the Louisiana legislature. The proposal was a plan for Louisiana to retain and attract corporate headquarters, invite opportunity, and create jobs.

Mr. Manard, a partner in the New Orleans office, has been with the firm since 1975 and is also the practice coordinator for the tort litigation group. His practice is exclusively litigation, in the area of toxic torts, pharmaceutical, environmental, class actions, health care and commercial litigation. Prior to joining the firm, he served in the United States Coast Guard as an Assistant District Legal Officer from 1971 to 1975. He has been awarded the “AV” rating by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, which is the highest possible rating for legal ability and ethical standards.

Levenfeld Pearlstein Bolsters Litigation Practice with Addition of Partner Kurt Stitcher
Levenfeld Pearlstein LLC is pleased to announce the addition of Kurt Stitcher as a partner in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. Mr. Stitcher, 44, joins Levenfeld Pearlstein from Winston & Strawn LLP, where, as a litigation partner, he focused his practice on product liability and toxic/mass tort litigation, corporate internal investigations, white-collar criminal defense, and general commercial and class action litigation.

Mr. Stitcher graduated cum laude from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, then worked as an Intelligence Analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency. After earning his J.D. with distinction from Stanford Law School, he began his legal career at Kirkland & Ellis in Chicago, where he rose to become a litigation partner before leaving the firm to serve as a federal prosecutor at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Miami. Mr. Stitcher then worked as a litigation partner at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart in Pittsburgh, before returning to Chicago to join Dan Webb at Winston & Strawn.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kurt to the firm,” said Scott A. Meyers, chair of Levenfeld Pearlstein’s Litigation Practice Group. “His extraordinary background and extensive trial experience further underscores our firm’s commitment to excellence and greatly enhances our ability to provide outstanding client service in several areas, including product liability and white collar criminal defense.”

Mr. Stitcher has represented a number of Fortune 100 companies in product liability and toxic/mass tort matters involving products such as automobiles, breast implants, pharmaceuticals, construction materials, and toxic substances. He represented an auto manufacturer in its first-ever lawsuit involving composite fiberglass leafsprings on its mini-vans and defended a mini-van rollover case that was ranked as one of the “Top Ten Defense Verdicts of 1999” by The National Law Journal. In the area of toxic/mass tort litigation, Mr. Stitcher has litigated matters involving radioactive isotopes and chlorinated solvents, including representation of a group of Fortune 500 companies in a case involving claims that an atomic production and power facility had injured thousands of plaintiffs.

While working as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Mr. Stitcher investigated, indicted, and/or prosecuted more than 100 defendants for a variety of federal felonies, including financial crimes. Since leaving the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Stitcher has represented a number of companies and individuals in white-collar criminal matters and corporate internal investigations, including the Bankruptcy Court Examiner’s investigation into the WorldCom bankruptcy, the Spitzer-driven Attorney General investigations into the insurance brokering industry, and various stock options backdating investigations and related matters.

Mr. Stitcher’s class action and general commercial litigation experience includes the representation of several Fortune 500 companies in matters involving claims of antitrust violations, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of warranty, civil RICO, civil rights, defamation, fraud, patent infringement, and securities fraud.
