Columbus Bar Association Honors Norton Webster With Professionalism Award
Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP is pleased to announce that Norton Webster, a retired of counsel, has been awarded the Columbus Bar Association’s Professionalism Award. This is one of the highest awards given by the Columbus Bar Association (CBA) and is presented annually to an attorney in recognition of exceptional dedication to the standards of the profession and for demonstrated integrity and humanitarian concern.

Mr. Webster was presented this honor at the CBA Annual Meeting on June 8, 2007. This is the third time he has been the recipient of an award from the CBA. In 1994, he was awarded the Columbus Bar Association Bar Service Medal, which is the highest award given by the association; and in 1980, he was presented by the CBA with its Community Service Award.

As Of Counsel in the Columbus office, Mr. Webster practices on a broad range of legal issues including government legislation, administrative law, corporate law and real estate law.

Duane Morris Wins Pro Bono Award
"Duane Morris was recently honored with the 2007 ""Outstanding Law Firm"" award, presented by Put Something Back, a joint pro bono project of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida and the Dade County Bar Association.

The firm received the award at the Dade County Bar Association's Annual Recognition Luncheon for its exceptional pro bono service to low-income people in Miami-Dade County. Partners Harvey Gurland and James Weinkle, both of the firm's Trial Practice Group in Miami, accepted the award on behalf of the firm.

In addition to the firm's award, Michelle Gervais, an associate in the Trial Practice Group in Miami, received an individual award - the ""Domestic Violence"" award - for her work in that area.

The Miami office had a 64 percent increase in pro bono work in the 2006-2007 year, providing services to victims of assault, children seeking asylum and canine rescue services, among others. The office is committed to continued growth and, as part of its commitment, the firm's partners started a mentoring program where associates can seek their advice on pro bono cases. Further, the firm will participate in a program sponsored by the Put Something Back Program, the Dade County Bar Association's Young Lawyers Section and Legal Services of Greater Miami Inc. This program will hold bi-monthly small claims clinics designed to aid and educate the community on legal matters."

Larry Wayte to recieve Bar Association's Lifetime Achievement Award
McCormick, Barstow, Sheppard, Wayte and Carruth LLP is pleased to announce that Lawrence E. Wayte has been selected as the 2007 recipient of the Bernie E. Witkin Lifetime Achievement Award.

Presented by the Fresno County Bar Association, the Bernie E. Witkin Lifetime Achievement Award is given to a member of our local legal community in recognition of his or her contribution to the advancement of jurisprudence through community service, scholarship, bar activities and the like.

For the past 25 years, Mr. Wayte’s practice has concentrated on civil litigation with an emphasis in the defense of professional liability and product liability claims, as well as administrative matters before various professional licensing agencies.

He has worked diligently to advance the legal profession through his associations with the American Board of Trial Advocates, in which he has achieved the rank of Diplomate, the American College of Trial Lawyers, in which he has achieved the rank of Fellow, the California Medical-Legal Committee, and the Fresno County Bar Association of which he served as president in 1994.

In addition to his extensive legal practice and participation with industry associations, Larry has given back to his community through his participation in such worthwhile organizations as The Bonner Family Foundation and Community Medical Centers, on whose board he has served since 1999.

It is perhaps in this area that Larry has had the greatest impact on our community. Having served on the Community Medical Centers Board of Trustees first as vice chairman in 2001, and then chairman of the board from 2002 to 2006, Larry has played an integral role in how health care services are provided not just in Fresno County, but in all of the five counties that are serviced by Community Medical Centers. During his tenure on the board, Community Medical Centers completed the Phase 1 expansion of Clovis Community Hospital, opened the Community SPORT Center, opened the Fresno Heart Hospital, and completed the transition of inpatient services from University Medical Center to the new Community Regional Medical Center, which became a reality in April 2007.

The Bernie E. Witkin Award will be presented at the Fresno County Bar Association luncheon scheduled for Friday, Jun. 15 at Club One Casino.

LeBoeuf Lamb Adds Alan Salpeter to its Chicago Office
LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae LLP is pleased to announce that Alan Salpeter has joined the firm's Chicago office as a partner. Salpeter joins LeBoeuf Lamb from Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP.

"We are delighted to have Alan with us. His experience and outstanding litigation skills will add great weight to our Chicago presence and aid our national and international growth," said firm Chairman Steven H. Davis.

Salpeter is a nationally known trial lawyer who has tried more than 70 commercial cases to judgment for clients including Accenture, Agfa-Gevaert, Comdisco Inc., Ernst & Young, the NCAA and Quaker Oats. Early in his career, he tried a number of high profile hostile takeover cases, including the attempted takeover of Brunswick Corporation, Life Investors Insurance Company of Iowa and Deltona Corporation. Salpeter also made headlines when he successfully defended Larry Ellison (CEO) and Jeff Henley (CFO) of Oracle Corp. against allegations of insider trading.

Salpeter's move to LeBoeuf Lamb comes at a time when the firm is aggressively expanding its presence in key business centers worldwide. LeBoeuf was recently named "Best U.S. Law Firm 2007" by leading U.K. legal industry publication Legal Business, beating out finalists Kirkland & Ellis, Simpson Thacher and Weil Gotshal. In 2005, the international legal publisher Chambers and Partners selected LeBoeuf as "Africa Law Firm of the Year," and the recently-released Avery Index ranked the firm one of "10 best Chicago law firms to work for." The firm will also open an office in Hong Kong this summer, bringing its total number of lawyers to 750 including nearly 200 practicing outside the U.S.

Commenting on his move, Salpeter said, "LeBoeuf Lamb is a world-class law firm with an impressive international footprint. I'm excited to be joining such a talented group of lawyers in building a top-notch domestic and international commercial litigation practice."

"Alan's arrival at LeBoeuf marks the next step in establishing the Chicago office and the firm as a destination platform for complex and sensitive litigation," said Michael King, Managing Partner of LeBoeuf Lamb's Chicago office. "He is one of the very best trial lawyers in the country and will be a great fit."

LeBoeuf Lamb opened its Chicago office in 2005 with five attorneys and since has grown to over 30. The practice focuses on commercial and white collar litigation including intellectual property disputes, antitrust and other grand jury investigations, as well as various contract and commercial litigation matters. LeBoeuf Lamb's Chicago office also maintains a leading distressed company practice including insolvency, as well as the management and representation of acquisitions and sales. The office has already handled two multi-billion dollar M&A transactions which it originated. Last year, the firm bolstered its market presence by adding seven bankruptcy and restructuring attorneys from McDermott Will & Emery, led by Lewis S. Rosenbloom.
