Ober|Kaler's Health Law Ties for Top Tier in State Rankings
For the fourth consecutive year, Ober|Kaler's Health Law practice ties for first place in state rankings according survey results published in Chambers USA, America's Leading Business Lawyers.

Chambers USA is a compilation of the country's most widely recommended law firms and lawyers. The peer-based rankings are widely considered the gold standard for legal excellence.

According to the publication, Ober|Kaler's "excellent and exceptional healthcare team" has been involved in "some of the largest healthcare fraud settlements of the past five years." Thirty-three attorneys practice in the firm's Health Law Group making it one of the largest health law practices in the nation.

Sandy Teplitzky, Ober|KalerSeveral of the firm's attorneys are ranked as leaders in their respective field. Chambers USA 2007 Legal Rankings Released
McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP and its attorneys received a number of noteworthy recognitions in the latest edition of Chambers USA 2007 Guide. In addition to the firm and its partners, several practice areas were also identified as leading groups, including our preeminent government contracts team which was ranked 1st among all U.S. law firms. This directory covers all the major practice areas on a national level, as well as key specialties within each state.

Ted Van Der Meid Joins McKenna Long & Aldridge's Political Law Practice
Ted Van Der Meid has joined McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP’s political law practice as Of Counsel in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. For more than 20 years, Van Der Meid worked on Capitol Hill as a legal advisor. He was chief counsel and director of floor operations to then House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-IL).

Van Der Meid’s practice will focus on representing individuals, corporations and other entities with respect to state and federal election law, campaign finance, and lobbying laws and ethics issues. His experience working at the highest levels of the legislative branch on these and other issues further deepens the already well-established firm practice.

Van Der Meid is well known for his work on ethics issues as staff director and chief counsel for the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct (House Ethics Committee) in the mid-1990s. He led the committee through one of its busiest and most difficult periods, which included a number of high profile investigations as well as implementation of the most restrictive gift rule created by Congress.

“We are very excited to have Ted join our political law team,” said Stefan Passantino, who heads the firm’s political law practice with Randy Evans. “Ted has been a longtime insider on Capitol Hill. His background fits nicely with the business solutions we provide our clients. The group is excited about him coming on board and building on these services.”

Department of Justice Decides Not to Challenge Merger between CBOT Holdings, Inc. and Chicago Mercantile Exchange Holdings Inc.
The Department of Justice officially closed its antitrust investigation of the proposed merger between CBOT Holdings, Inc. and Chicago Mercantile Exchange Holdings Inc.

In a statement released on June 11th, officials said they found that the combination would not foreclose entry to competitors or hinder innovation or competition. It went on to say that the exchanges did not have products that were close substitutes and were further unlikely to introduce new products that would compete directly with one another.

Legal efforts on behalf of CBOT Holdings, Inc. to persuade the Department of Justice not to challenge the transaction were spearheaded by attorneys Mark Ryan, Chris Kelly and Jay Brown. Peter B. Carey of the Law Offices of Peter B. Carey in Chicago served as co-counsel.

King & Spalding Lawyers Earn 94 Spots In Chambers USA 2007 Rankings
King & Spalding lawyers earned 94 individual rankings in the 2007 edition of Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, a leading guide to which lawyers and law firms are considered leaders in their fields. For the 2007 edition, a team of 40 Chambers USA researchers interviewed more than 10,000 lawyers and clients over the span of six months to determine which lawyers and firms the market says are the best in their geographic regions and practice areas.

James A. Singler Elected to Family Service Board of Directors
James A. Singler, an attorney in the Private Client Group at Keating Muething & Klekamp (KMK), was recently elected to serve on the Board of Directors of Family Service of Greater Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky.

Katten Lands 15 Practices and 28 Attorneys in Chambers USA Guide
