Employment Attorney Karen G. Schanfield Joins Fredrikson & Byron
Fredrikson & Byron is pleased to announce that Karen G. Schanfield has joined the firm as an officer in the Employment and Labor Law Group. Karen has significant experience representing and advising employers in both the public and private sectors in all aspects of labor and employment law compliance, including disabled employees in the workplace, family and medical leaves, accommodating religious practices, wage and hour concerns, and workplace harassment. She represents employers in union organizing campaigns, arbitration proceedings, and unfair labor practice charges. Karen frequently creates and conducts training programs on workplace harassment and discrimination, leaves of absence, drug and alcohol problems, wage and hour laws, disciplinary issues, and other workplace topics. In addition to representing employers before various tribunals, she is certified as an arbitrator and mediator by the American Arbitration Association and Rule 114 of the Minnesota Rules of Practice. Karen has developed a strong health care focus, and her practice includes employment counsel for physician practices and hospitals.

Kevin B. Scott Elected President of the Pennsylvania Association of Bond Lawyers
Fox Rothschild LLP attorney Kevin B. Scott, Esq. was recently elected President of the Pennsylvania Association of Bond Lawyers. He will serve a 1-year term at the association, whose mission is to provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas in the field of public finance and to provide education opportunities for its members, legislators, regulators and the judiciary in related matters.

Scott, who serves as Chair of Fox Rothschild’s Public Finance Group, also has considerable experience with municipal finance and non-profit organizations. He is a partner resident in the firm’s Philadelphia office.

Cleary Gottlieb Receives Chambers Awards for Excellence and Achieves Outstanding Results in Chambers USA 2007 Guide
Cleary Gottlieb received the award for Capital Markets Team of the Year and Mark Leddy won an individual award for Antitrust at the 2007 Chambers Awards for Excellence, which were held in New York City on Thursday, June 14th. In addition, the firm was nominated for the Corporate/M&A, Corporate Tax and Private Equity Team of the Year awards.

Jeffrey A. Devree Joins Clark Hill PLC Grand Rapids
Attorney Jeffrey A. DeVree has joined the Corporate Practice Group with Clark Hill PLC in their Grand Rapids office. He has 25 years of experience in tax and employee benefits practice, and will be working with clients firm-wide on federal, state, local, and international tax matters.

DeVree is an active member of bar association sections and committees involving tax and employee benefits, having recently served as a member of the Council of the Taxation Section of the State Bar of Michigan and previously as chairman of the Business and Tax Section of the Grand Rapids Bar Association. DeVree is a frequent speaker at seminars for business and professional groups. He is a member of the IRS Great Lakes Area Tax-Exempt and Government Entities Council. He is also a member of the Tax Policy Committee of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Tax and Regulatory Affairs Committee of the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, and has been working with both organizations to analyze and develop proposals for Michigan business tax reform.

Donald B. Leach, Jr. Named as a Leading Construction Law Attorney in the 2007 Edition of Chambers USA

Bryan Cave Adds Partner to Chicago Office
Synde B. Keywell joins the international law firm Bryan Cave LLP as a partner in the Chicago office. Keywell joins Bryan Cave from a Chicago law firm and will practice with Bryan Cave’s Commercial Litigation and Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Creditors’ Rights Groups.

“Synde Keywell has built a strong practice throughout the course of her career, and Bryan Cave’s extensive resources will provide her with an opportunity to enhance her client relationships,” said Jeffrey W. Morof, managing partner of Bryan Cave’s Chicago office. “At the same time, Synde adds depth to our expanding representation of financial institutions, especially in the consumer area.”

Keywell has extensive experience representing intellectual property licensors, consumer finance companies and financial institutions in commercial litigation. She defends clients on complex fraud, predatory lending, lender liability and statutory claims and has represented clients in matters involving the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Truth in Lending Act.
