Vincent O. Hanley Elected Chairman of Hilbert College Board of Trustees
Jaeckle Fleischmann & Mugel, LLP, a law firm with offices in Buffalo, Amherst, and Rochester, New York, and Phoenix, Arizona, announces that partner, Vincent O. Hanley, has been elected Chairman of the Hilbert College Board of Trustees. Hilbert College, a four-year liberal arts college located in Hamburg, New York, founded by the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph, recently celebrated its fiftieth anniversary. The college also recently completed construction of a multi-million dollar academic building named in honor of the college's past president, Sister Edmunette Paczesny, who was succeeded in 2006 by the college's first lay president, Cynthia A. Zane. Mr. Hanley has served on the Hilbert College Board since April of 2003.

Mr. Hanley is a partner in the Firm's Real Estate, Economic & Land Development, Business & Corporate and Financial Services practice groups. For more than twenty years, Mr. Hanley, who is admitted to practice law in New York and Arizona, has concentrated his practice in the areas of commercial real estate, zoning, banking and litigation. He represents developers, lenders and borrowers in commercial development projects, commercial leasing and real estate related litigation. His real estate litigation experience includes mortgage foreclosures, commercial lease litigation, real property tax review proceedings, eminent domain proceedings and zoning litigation.

Mr. Hanley is a frequent lecturer on mortgage foreclosures and other topics related to commercial real estate development. He practices from the Firm's Buffalo office. In addition to serving on Hilbert College's Board, Mr. Hanley is a member of the Board of Directors of the St. Vincent De Paul Society for Buffalo and Western New York.

Jean C. Powers Elected President Of National Association Of Women Business Owners
Jaeckle Fleischmann & Mugel, LLP, a law firm with offices in Buffalo, Amherst and Rochester, New York, and Phoenix, Arizona, announces that partner Jean C. Powers has been elected to serve as President of the Buffalo Niagara Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). NAWBO Buffalo Niagara is a leading advocate for emerging and established women business owners who aspire to higher levels of opportunity, challenge and success.

Ms. Powers is a partner in the Firm's Real Estate practice group. For more than twenty years, Ms. Powers, who is admitted to practice law in New York, has represented developers, lenders and business entities in the acquisition, financing, leasing and disposition of commercial and industrial real property, and is the lead person in the Real Estate Department involved with bond financed transactions. She is very familiar with issues concerning title and leasing and a major portion of her practice includes the representation of a developer of office complexes and industrial facilities.

In addition to serving on NAWBO's board, Ms. Powers currently serves as a Trustee for the University at Buffalo Foundation, as a member of the Dean's Advisory Council for the University at Buffalo Law School and is Past Chair and an Emeritus Member of the Trocaire College Board of Trustees. She is a member of the Erie County and New York State Bar Associations, as well as the New York State Women's Bar Association. Ms. Powers practices from the Firm's Amherst office.

Firm's Real Estate Deals Recognized During 2007 EPIC Awards
Real Estate Finance & Investment, a publication of Institutional Investor, announced its 2007 EPIC (Excellence in Property, Investment and CMBS) Awards. Simpson Thacher clients won six of the 14 awards presented, including:
# "Deal of the Year" for The Blackstone Group’s acquisition of Equity Office Properties
# "Fund of the Year" to The Blackstone Group as “the dominating force in commercial real estate market in 2006”
# "Outstanding Contributor" to The Blackstone Group for its acquisition of four public companies during 2006, Equity Office Properties, Trizec Properties, CarrAmerica Realty and MeriStar Hospitality
# "CMBS Deal of the Year" and "CMBS Loan of the Year" for The Equity Office Properties acquisition financing: the $15 billion stand-alone securitization and the $14 billion series of mezzanine loans originated, respectively
# "CMBS Innovator of the Year" to Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse for their origination of $4.855 billion in acquisition financing for the buy-out of the resort owner and developer, Kerzner International

The Blackstone matters referenced above in which Simpson Thacher represented the firm totaled $56 billion.

DLA Piper's Global Chief People Officer ranked in the HR top 100 most influential list
DLA Piper's Global Chief People Officer, Robert Halton, has been ranked at number 55 in HR Magazine's 'Top 100 Most Influential' list. This is the second time that Robert has been ranked in the list, and has moved up 29 places from last year where he was placed at 84.

The 'Top 100 Most Influential' list was compiled by HR magazine and was based on its readers' nominations of the HR profession's movers and shakers. Robert joins the likes of HR Directors from Tesco and the Royal Bank of Scotland to sit within the Top 60 most influential HR list.

Robert Halton commented: "It is a great honour to be recognised by ones peers and this reflects the hard work of the HR team and the position of the firm in the commercial arena."

In addition to Robert's ranking as one of the most influential figures in HR, DLA Piper has also been short listed for the international HR award at the HR Magazine's 'HR Excellence Awards 2007.' The awards are due to take place on 2 July at the Dorchester Hotel in London.

Patricia B. Lehtola named Vice Chair of Labor and Employment Section
The law firm of Godwin Pappas Ronquillo, LLP is pleased to announce Partner Patricia B. Lehtola has been named Vice Chair to the Firm’s Labor and Employment Section.

Mrs. Lehtola joined Godwin Pappas in 2007. She is AV rated with Martindale-Hubbell. In addition to labor and employment, her practice includes public law, commercial litigation, banking, and insurance matters.

Mrs. Lehtola represents her clients in complex business disputes with a goal of resolving their matters efficiently, successfully and in the least disruptive manner possible. She is licensed to practice law in California (1984) and Texas (1985). Some of her significant/published cases include Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation v. J. Thomas Bell, et al, (United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division); Trinity Industries, Inc. v. North Carolina Propane Gas Co and American Energy Inc. (Dallas District Court); Grun v. Countrywide Home Loans, Inc. (United States District for the Western District of Texas, San Antonio Division); Hodge v. Northern Trust Bank, N.A. Chambers USA Recognizes 63 Debevoise “Leading Lawyers”
America’s Leading Lawyers for Business 2007 selected 63 Debevoise & Plimpton LLP lawyers as among the country’s leading lawyers in their annual survey of U.S.-based lawyers and law firms. The firm was ranked in the first band in eight practice areas; ten partners were named in the first band of their practice areas (three in two practice areas and two as Star Performers). The 2007 edition of the guide lists over 55% of Debevoise U.S. partners as leaders in their fields.

This year, Mary Jo White, Co-Chair of the firm’s litigation practice and a partner in the firm’s New York office, also received the Chambers Award for Excellence for "White Collar Crime & Government Investigations leading individual." The Chambers Awards for Excellence, which were presented in a ceremony held on June 14, recognize outstanding individuals in 19 practice areas who demonstrated top tier legal skills and dedication to providing the highest possible level of client service.
