Zajicek Returns to Hinshaw
The national law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP continues to expand its business transactions practice with the addition of David E. Zajicek. Mr. Zajicek will be joining the firm’s Lisle, Illinois office as partner.

“We are very pleased with the addition of David to our office. His knowledge and experience will no doubt allow us to serve our clients’ needs by allowing us to continue to enlarge our business transaction practice group,” said Daniel M. Purdom, partner in charge of the Lisle office.

Mr. Zajicek is highly experienced in corporate and commercial business transactions, including business acquisitions and sales, leverage buy-outs, stock options and other forms of executive compensation, as well as employment and regulatory law. He has also counseled a wide variety of manufacturers and distributors in the preparation and enforcement of national and international distributorship, licensing and franchise agreements andrepresents diverse foreign companies regarding their U.S. operations.

In addition, he counsels lending institutions and borrowers in various types of financing agreements, including movie production and aircraftacquisitionfunding.

Mr. Zajicek also maintains a substantial real estate practice. His clients have included major developers, for which he has handled zoning, annexationand related permitting in more than 30 communities. Mr. Zajicek has also represented clients before other governmental authorities and various state courts on matters relating to annexation, zoning, special use permits and wetlands permits.

Prior to returning to Hinshaw in 2007, Mr. Zajicek was a partner with the law firm of Holland & Knight LLP.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Bradley University in 1961 before receiving his law degree from Northwestern University School of Law in 1964.

Mr. Zajicek is a former Captain in the United States Air Force. He served on active duty from 1965 to 1967 and is a recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal.

Labor and Employment Associate Joins D.C. Office
Kelley Drye welcomes Antone Melton-Meaux to the firm as an Associate in the Washington, D.C. office. He has represented corporate clients in all aspects of labor and employment law and will be expanding the firm's Labor and Employment Practice in the DC area. Mr. Melton-Meaux also has represented both individual and corporate clients in complex insurance matters. Prior to joining Kelley Drye, Mr. Melton-Meaux was an Associate at Gilbert Randolph, LLP.

Butzel Long Paralegal Vanessa Lozzi receives DMBA Distinguished Service Award
Butzel Long paralegal Vanessa Lozzi recently received the Distinguished Service Award from the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association (DMBA) during the 171st President’s Awards Banquet & Annual Meeting. She was honored for her commitment to the DMBA and the members of the Paralegal Section, by using her leadership skills to promote the organization with both educational and volunteer opportunities, as well as being instrumental in building and maintaining strategic partner relationships.

Ms. Lozzi completed her three-year term as a Paralegal Section Chair in May. As the DMBA Paralegal Section Chair, she developed the section to include five Committee Chair leadership positions, and helped to grow the section to more than 200 members. Some of the notable accomplishments of the section are the monitoring program, Paralegal Scholarship Fund, Annual vendor event and ongoing educational programs.

Ms. Lozzi is based in Butzel Long's Bloomfield Hills office. She works in the practice areas of litigation, appellate litigation, class action litigation and securities.

Ms. Lozzi has worked at some of the leading Detroit-based law firms. She began her paralegal career working in a general civil litigation practice group. She then worked in the more specialized area of labor and employment law where she assisted with both litigation and traditional labor law.

Ms. Lozzi is a member of Legal Assistant Section of the State Bar of Michigan (SBM) and the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA). In addition, she is a member of the Baker College Paralegal Advisory Board, which is working to gain American Bar Association (ABA) accreditation of their Paralegal Program. She also enjoys giving speeches to paralegal students at local colleges.

In addition to her professional affiliations, Ms. Lozzi serves on Butzel Long’s Litigation Technology Committee and E-discovery Task Force. The Litigation Technology Committee promotes the use of the latest software, expertise in technical trial presentations, and the overall improvement of technology use and training. The E-discovery Task Force is comprised of certified and skilled attorneys and paralegals that spearhead E-discovery issues for clients. The task force also stays on the cutting edge of changes in the law and court opinions governing E-discovery issues.

Ms. Lozzi is a graduate of Adrian College with a B.A. in Criminal Justice, and also has earned her Paralegal Certificate. She is a resident of Clinton Township.

Ward and Smith, P.A. Announces Relocation of Lance P. Martin to New Asheville Office
Ward and Smith, P.A. is pleased to announce that Lance P. Martin will begin practicing from the firm's Asheville office effective June 18. Mr. Martin's move to Asheville marks the firm's first western North Carolina office location.

Mr. Martin joined Ward and Smith in 1999. He represents clients in drafting and negotiating a wide variety of contract, loan, and workout agreements. Mr. Martin represents creditors in collections, foreclosures, U.C.C. security agreement enforcement, and structured liquidations and workouts. He litigates at all levels, with an emphasis on commercial and corporate fraud, fraudulent transfers, unfair and deceptive trade practices, floor-plan financing, and factoring and lease arrangements. Mr. Martin also advises and represents financial institutions in trust, fiduciary, and regulatory matters.
