Attorney Tony Toranto has joined Luce Forward’s Real Estate Practice Group as Special Counsel in the firm’s downtown San Diego and San Francisco offices. Toranto’s move to Luce Forward follows the addition of six new land use attorneys to the firm’s San Francisco office as part of the Real Estate Group’s strategic growth plan.

Toranto specializes in the acquisition, disposition, development, financing, management and leasing of real property. Throughout his career, he has closed over $1 billion in real estate financings, represented developers and investors in real estate joint ventures, and managed the closing of the largest single parcel eminent domain settlement in California history. Toranto’s practice includes work in complex transactional issues across all major product types from office, hotel and industrial to retail, residential and mixed-use.

“Tony is a talented attorney with the background and experience to contribute to the growth of our premier group of real estate attorneys,” said Robert J. Toranto was previously an associate in the Real Estate Group at Steefel, Levitt & Weiss in the firm’s San Francisco office. Toranto is also a member of the Urban Land Institute.

“Luce Forward has one of the most respected and progressive real estate practices in California,” said Toranto. “I look forward to working with the Real Estate Practice Group’s highly accomplished attorneys, especially in this time of new growth.”

Toranto earned a Juris Doctor degree from Stanford Law School, an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and his M.A. and A.B. from Stanford University.

Running the Firm: Firms push ethics education for paralegals
Rob Gauss, partner at Ice Miller, and chair of its professional development committee was recently interviewed by the Indiana Lawyer regarding paralegal ethics-

Like in most careers, a paralegal may be faced with an ethical dilemma surrounding his or her work. A client may ask the paralegal for advice, not wanting to bother the attorney. The paralegal may accidentally forget to correctly identify himself or herself as a paralegal to the client when communicating over the phone, by letter, or through email. The paralegal may not tell a new employer that he or she has a conflict of interest with certain clients because of a previous job.
