Bell Boyd IP Partner Honored
Bell, Boyd & Lloyd LLP partner, Kara E. F. Cenar, has been inducted as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA), an honorary society of trial lawyers established to recognize experienced and highly qualified trial counsel across all segments of the American bar. Limited membership in LCA is by invitation only and represents less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers.

Ms. Cenar was inducted as an LCA Fellow at the organization's June 22nd Spring Conference. She has represented companies of all sizes in enforcing their intellectual property rights and defended alleged violations of intellectual property rights. She also advises on maximizing intellectual property protection and its strategic use in the marketplace.

Ms. Cenar is nationally recognized and often quoted on topics of IP protection for entrepreneurs and as an advocate for women in business, having served as a longtime board member and Immediate Past President of the Chicago Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). She received the 2006 Champion for Women in Business Award from the U.S. Small Business Administration on both the local and regional level and has been named as an Illinois Super Lawyer for Intellectual Property Litigation.

Following its announcement last week on the changes it has made to firm governance, Cozen O’Connor announced today the appointment of its first ever board of directors. The initial board will consist of the firm’s management committee and an additional nine geographically dispersed firm members. For this year, these nine board members were appointed by founders Stephen A. Cozen and Patrick J. O’Connor and advisory committee member John J. Cunningham. Beginning next year, board members will be elected by shareholders of the firm on a staggered term basis.

The new non-management committee board members are: Edward L. Baxter, Mark J. Foley, Kevin J. Hughes and Jeffrey A. Leonard—all from the Philadelphia office; Richard M. “Our new governance structure is designed to place the decision making power and management with the shareholder body, the elected Board, and the Management Committee.”, said Patrick J. O’Connor, president and CEO of the firm. “With lawyers from all departments, practice groups and geographies, our new board of directors represents every aspect of the firm. I am confident that this new generation of firm leaders will uphold the entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to client service that has been the hallmark of Cozen O’Connor since its founding.”
