Ford & Harrison Named Among The Top Labor and Employment Law Firms in the Country By Chambers USA
Ford & Harrison LLP, a national labor and employment law firm, is pleased to announce that it was among the highest ranked labor and employment law firms in the United States in this year’s edition of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. At the state level, the firm was also ranked at the top of its practice area in Tennessee and Florida and was among the highest rated labor and employment firms in Georgia, Illinois and South Carolina.

In addition to the overall firm awards, 15 individual Ford & Harrison attorneys from across the country were also recognized by Chambers. They are: John-Edward Alley (Florida), Wade E. Ballard (South Carolina), Louis P. Britt, III (Tennessee), James G. Brown (Florida), Richard S. Cohen (Arizona), Peter R. Corbin (Florida), Joycelyn L. Fleming (Georgia), Thomas C. Garwood, Jr. (Florida), Herbert E. Gerson (Tennessee), Patricia G. Griffith (Georgia), Robert D. Hall, Jr. (Florida), Thomas J. Kassin (Georgia), Michael P. Maslanka (Texas), George J. Matkov (Illinois) and Arnold E. Perl (Tennessee).

In describing Ford & Harrison, Chambers discussed the firm’s growing national footprint and impressive client roster which includes several Fortune 500 and Fortune 100 companies. Statements about Ford & Harrison by the firm’s clients were also cited: “This firm can provide at all levels; the lawyers are responsive and take care to solicit our views on how to handle litigation matters,” declared one client. Another stated, “The group’s dedication to the projects at hand, sense of urgency and compliance with company policy is simply superior.”

Chambers & Partners conducted over 10,000 interviews over a period of more than six months in order to compile the information for Chambers USA. The factors used to determine the rankings are “legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial awareness, diligence, commitment, and other qualities most valued by the client.”

Dechert LLP Expands Finance and Real Estate Practice with Addition of William C. Stefko
Dechert LLP announced today that William C. Stefko has re-joined the firm as a partner in the Finance and Real Estate Practice. He is based in the New York office. Stefko was previously an associate with Dechert.

Stefko focuses on real estate capital markets and complex real estate finance, structured finance, and securitization. He advises clients on a full range of real estate finance transactions, particularly relating to the commercial real estate collateralized debt obligation (CRE-CDO) and commercial mortgage backed securities (CMBS) market.

"Bill's expertise in all aspects of real estate capital markets and structured finance - particularly in the continuously expanding CRE-CDO market - is a significant addition to the firm," said John J. Gillies, a partner and member of the executive committee of Dechert's Finance and Real Estate Practice. "We are confident he will be a solid contributor to the continued growth of the FRE practice."

In 2007, Thomson Financial ranked Dechert's Finance and Real Estate Practice among the top firms for:

- Mortgage-backed securities, issuer legal advisor
- Mortgage-backed securities, manager legal advisor
- Asset-backed securities, issuer legal advisor
- Asset-backed securities, issuer legal advisor

Cravath Represents Ripplewood In Its Sale Of Supresta
Cravath represented Ripplewood Holdings LLC in its sale of Supresta LLC to Israel Chemicals Ltd. for $352 million. The lawyers involved in this matter are partners Thomas E. Dunn and Sarkis Jebejian and associates Mathias J. von Bernuth and Merritt S. Johnson on corporate matters; partner Michael L. Schler and associate Christopher K. Fargo on tax matters; partner Eric W. Hilfers and associates Rolf Zaiss and Jin Hee Kim on executive compensation and benefits matters; partner Jeffrey A. Smith and associate David J. Mandl on environmental matters; and partner Elizabeth L. Grayer and associate Robin C. Landis on litigation matters. The deal was announced on June 25, 2007.

New Director of Diversity Joins Cadwalader

Prior to joining Cadwalader, Mr. DeBerry was the President of the National Attorney of Color Network, an organization he founded as a resource for legal employers seeking to establish a diverse workforce. Prior to that, he was a partner at Thelen Reid & Priest, LLP (now Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steinerm, LLP), where he served on the Recruiting Committee and the Diversity Committee, and drafted the firm’s Guiding Principles and Strategic Plan for Diversity. He earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was an Editor of the Virginia Law Review and an Earl Warren Legal Scholar, and his undergraduate degree from Tufts University. He also completed the Executive Training Program on Corporate Governance at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.

Leading life sciences patent attorney and former Pfizer Inc. Senior Corporate Counsel David R. Kurlandsky joins Butzel Long
David R. Kurlandsky, a leading life sciences patent attorney, has joined Butzel Long as a senior attorney in the firm's Ann Arbor office. Mr. Kurlandsky is a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Practice Group.

Mr. Kurlandsky joined Butzel Long after working as a senior corporate counsel for the pharmaceutical company, Pfizer Inc. Prior to his corporate work, Mr. Kurlandsky was in private practice, counseling clients in the pharmaceutical, biotechnological, and chemical industries and in academic research institutions. He has extensive experience in procuring patents and counseling clients in the medical device and mechanical arts.

"David has an extraordinary background in the life sciences coupled with extensive experience in both corporate and private law practice," said J. Michael Huget, a Butzel Long vice president who oversees the firm's Intellectual Property Practice Group. "He is a wonderful addition to our growing intellectual property practice."

Mr. Kurlandsky has broad experience in all aspects of intellectual property practice, including domestic and international patent prosecution, due diligence, counseling clients on patent issues including patentability, freedom-to-operate (patent clearance), validity, infringement, licensing, and portfolio strategy and management.

Mr. Kurlandsky earned a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Michigan, 1987; a J.D. from Drake University Law School, 1991; and a M.P.H from the University of Michigan School of Public Health concentrating in Hospital and Molecular Epidemiology, 1992. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Bradley Arant Ranked As Alabama's Leading Law Firm for the Fifth Consecutive Year
For the fifth consecutive year, Bradley Arant Rose & White LLP has topped the list of Alabama law firms ranked by clients and other attorneys across the nation.

The 2007 edition of Chambers USA – America’s Leading Lawyers for Business ranks the Bradley Arant firm in the First Tier in Alabama in all five practice areas listed – 1) Banking & Finance; 2) Corporate/Commercial; 3) Employment: Mainly Defendant; 4) Litigation: General Commercial; and 5) Real Estate. No other Alabama firm ranks in the top tier in every category.

Twenty six Bradley Arant attorneys have been cited in the Chambers USA directory for special recognition in their specific areas of practice, including 20 in Alabama, five in Mississippi and one in Washington D.C.

Wayne Drinkwater, the senior attorney in Bradley Arant’s Jackson office, has also been named a national “star” – for the fifth consecutive year – in the category of General Commercial Litigation for Mississippi. Drinkwater is also ranked in the First Tier of attorneys practicing in Mississippi in the area of Appellate Litigation.

Also ranked in our Jackson office in the General Commercial Litigation category are Roy D. Campbell and Stephen L. Thomas. J Douglas Minor and J. William Manuel are ranked “Up and Coming”.

Paul Compton and Larry Vinson of Bradley Arant are the only two attorneys in the state ranked number one in the practice area Banking & Finance. Also ranked in this category are Kay Bains and Dave Dresher.

Tom Carruthers is ranked “Senior Statesman” in the Corporate/Commercial category. Other Bradley Arant attorneys listed are Beau Grenier, Harold Kushner and Paul Ware.

In the Employment category, Jim Alexander, Jim May, Jay St. Clair and Abdul Kallon are ranked.

Hobart McWhorter and John Morrow are ranked “Senior Statesman” in the General Commercial Litigation category. Also ranked in this category are Jimmy Gewin and Mike McKibben of Bradley Arant.

Mabry Rogers of Bradley Arant is the only attorney in Alabama ranked for Construction Litigation. No other Alabama individuals made the listing. Doug Patin, a partner in the Washington D.C. office, was ranked in the Construction category for DC.

In the Real Estate category, those ranked in the State of Alabama from Bradley Arant include Charlie Beavers, Kay Bains, Steve Monk and Dave Dresher. Dawn Helms Sharff is ranked “Up and Coming”.

Chambers and Partners, based in London, England, began publishing the Chambers Guide to the leading lawyers in the United Kingdom in 1990, and expanded to cover the U.S. legal market thirteen years later. For the 2007 listings, more than 10,000 interviews were conducted among law firm clients and peer lawyers in other firms in order to determine the rankings.
