DLA Piper named one of the best places to work in Baltimore
The July 2007 edition of Baltimore Magazine named DLA Piper among the best places to work in the city of Baltimore. This year’s honor marks the second time in three years that the firm has been named to the list. DLA Piper was one of 26 companies on the list, and one of only two law firms to be included in the ranking of Baltimore’s best employers.

The magazine sought to recognize companies with employees who are “happy to get up in the morning,” highlighting workplaces that offer a friendly and interesting work atmosphere, opportunity for advancement, inspiring leadership, great benefits, salary and career development, attention to lifestyles (including parental leave, flex time and low turnover) and rewards programs.

DLA Piper was cited among Baltimore’s best places to work for its generous health insurance package, tuition reimbursement program and other benefits to employees. The magazine also highlighted the firm’s hybrid vehicle reimbursement policy, whereby employees receive a $2000 credit toward the purchase of a hybrid car. Baltimore Magazine also praised DLA Piper’s mentoring program and diversity directive.

“Our people are our greatest resource, so we have always dedicated ourselves to developing comprehensive employee benefits at DLA Piper,” said Francis B. Burch, Jr., Joint Chief Executive Officer of DLA Piper.

“Our business depends upon the happiness and health of our employees, which means that generous benefits are good for our people, and also good for business,” said Baltimore Managing Partner Paul A. Tiburzi. “We are proud that Baltimore Magazine has recognized what a great place this is to work.”

Bisceglia Inducted as President of Illinois State Bar Association
Jenner & Block Partner Joseph G. Bisceglia was installed as the 131st President of the Illinois State Bar Association at the organization's Annual Meeting on June 22.

During his one-year term as President, Mr. Bisceglia plans to focus on the public image of lawyers, educating the public about the lawyer's role in our justice system and creating more diversity in the legal profession.

“If we’re going to have a long-lasting impact on the image of lawyers, we have to engage in what I call public or civic education,” Mr. Bisceglia said in a recent interview with Chicago Lawyer magazine. “We can ask our membership to devote two or three hours a year to speak in a grammar school, a high school, or a civic organization, and to put on some programs that really explain to young people what lawyers do every day and how the system of justice works. That, to me, is what will have a long-lasting impact on people’s perception.”

In addition, Mr. Bisceglia recently told the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin that he plans to create a task force to follow up on the key recommendations of a report by the ISBA’s Standing Committee on Minority and Women Participation that addressed how to improve diversity in the legal profession.

Mr. Bisceglia is the third Jenner & Block Partner to lead the ISBA – Name Partner Albert E. Jenner, Jr. was President from 1949-50 and Partner Floyd E. Thompson was President from 1933-34.

Mr. Bisceglia has been a long-time member and leader within the ISBA for over 30 years. In 2004, he was elected Third Vice President, leading to his installation as President on the ISBA for 2007-08. In addition, Mr. Bisceglia has served on the Board of Governors of the ISBA, and has served in numerous other capacities in the ISBA, including as chair of the ISBA’s Section on Civil Practice and Procedure (1991-92), co-chair and Chair of the ISBA Committee on Supreme Court Rules (1992-93; 2004-05), chair of the ISBA Special Committee on Federal Practice (2001-02), editor and frequent contributor to the ISBA publication Trial Briefs (1991-2004), and a member of the ISBA Committee on Judicial Evaluations (which investigates and evaluates Illinois judges for election and retention). In special recognition of his exceptional service and contributions to the profession, Mr. Bisceglia received the Board of Governors Award in 1997.

Mr. Bisceglia is a member of the Firm's Litigation Department and is Chair of the Firm's Construction Law Practice.
