Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw Ranked by Legal 500 in Nine Litigation Areas, Firm Top Ranked in Supreme Court & Appellate and Tax Controversy & Transfer Pricing
Two litigation practices at Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP have received top ranking from Legal 500 among all U.S. law firms that "demonstrate frequent success before the Supreme Court." The Supreme Court & Appellate and Tax Controversy & Transfer Pricing practices are recognized for their skill, performance, talent, range of experience and unparalleled knowledge of how to deal with the federal appellate courts. "The firm's impressive credentials extend beyond pure courtroom skills, and a broad range of attributes makes the firm a premier operator," noted the commentary in the recently released Volume 3 of the Legal 500 U.S. In addition, the firm's Antitrust, Environment, Patent Litigation, Securities Litigation and Telecommunications practices were also recognized.

The Supreme Court & Appellate Practice Group is ranked as the leading appellate practice in the United States. It is the oldest and largest Supreme Court & Appellate practice in the country, and offers "genuine national coverage" with 26 partners, four counsel, 30 associates and three academic affiliates. "It is this depth of bench compared to its rivals that marks it out as a rock-solid top-tier player," according to Legal 500. Frequent appearances by the firm's attorneys before the Supreme Court are noted, with a total of 196 cases argued there including nine in the three most recent terms, plus hundreds more in appellate courts across the country. Client satisfaction is described as extremely high; one client is quoted that Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw is "a go-to firm for any appellate work." Others praise the firm's thorough legal research, excellent analysis, crisp and clear writing and briefs that rarely need extensive editing.

The firm's Tax Controversy & Transfer Pricing practice also received top ranking for its team of 35 lawyers recognized for their expertise and outstanding performance on cases involving such issues as cross-border transfer pricing, economic substance issues and the tax treatment of tangible and intangible assets in acquisitions. Legal 500 describes the firm's "dedicated team peopled by trial lawyers and litigators who spend all of their time on tax matters" and notes they have collectively litigated more than 100 tax cases. Clients are quoted as extremely pleased with the competence and thorough nature of the work as well as the "excellent job of representing clients' interests."

These rankings are proof of our endless dedication to client service," said James D. Holzhauer, Chairman of Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw. "They also demonstrate the skill and expertise of the highly-talented professionals within these practices as well as our continued leadership among global law firms."
