Twenty-Six Thompson Hine Lawyers Named “Rising Stars”

The publishers of Law & Politics and Super Lawyers launched Rising Stars to recognize top up-and-coming attorneys in several states. Entries Sought For 2007 Stoel Rives Idaho Innovation Awards
Nominations are now being accepted for the second annual Stoel Rives Idaho Innovation Awards program. Organized by Stoel Rives LLP, a full-service U.S. business law firm, the Idaho Innovation Awards program is designed to recognize technology innovations and the Idaho companies that created them. Entry forms can be submitted online at www.stoel.com/innovation between July 2 and August 3, 2007. The program is being presented by the Idaho Department of Commerce Office of Science & Technology and is sponsored by the Idaho Business Review and Hewlett-Packard.

“In 2006, the inaugural program was incredibly successful and showcased an amazing variety of innovations from Idaho companies of all sizes,” said Kris Ormseth, managing partner of the Stoel Rives Boise office. “Idaho ranks first in the number of patents per capita, and the Innovation Awards spotlight the technology and products that are utilizing these patents.”

Program organizers refined the submission categories this year to better reflect the diversity of Idaho’s innovations. The 2007 Idaho Innovation Awards program will recognize innovations in eight categories:

• Agriculture/Environmental/Bioscience • Energy (NEW)
• Chemical/Materials Science • Enterprise/B2B Software (NEW)
• Computer Hardware/Electrical Devices • Semiconductor Manufacturing
• Consumer Software (NEW) • Other (NEW)

The “other” category is designed for innovations that do not fit perfectly into one of the seven technology categories. More information on the categories and submission qualifications can be found at www.stoel.com/innovation. Finalists and winners will be recognized at an Awards Luncheon in October.

While the Idaho Innovation Awards is a statewide program, a majority of the winners and finalists for the 2006 program came from the Treasure Valley. In 2006, six of the eight winners were from the Treasure Valley and included the Txi Label by PakSense of Boise (aquaculture/environmental/agriculture); Induced Positron Analysis by Positron Systems, Inc. of Boise (chemicals/materials science); Pleo-Ugobe Life Forms by Ugobe of Eagle (mechanical devices); the 8-Megapixel Image Sensor by Micron Technology, Inc. of Boise (imaging/optical technology); and Wi-Spy by MetaGeek LLC of Nampa (computer hardware/electrical devices).

Of the 14 finalists recognized last year, nine were from the Treasure Valley and included the OxyRescue by OX-GEN, Inc. of Boise; the Dental R.A.T.™ by Beckmer Products, Inc. of Meridian; the Batch Reactor ALD HfO2, Selective Epitaxial Silicon Growth into DRAM and the 512Mb Low-Power Mobile DRAM by Micron Technology, Inc. of Boise; Medusa–Omni-Adaptive Architecture by DigiTar of Boise; Automatic Color Management by Hewlett-Packard of Boise; the Builder Website Management System by NeoReef of Nampa; and the Integrated Bi-Modal Wheel Assembly by Rick Tremblay of Boise. Last year, more than 50 nominations were submitted and more than 300 people attended the Awards Luncheon. Last year, more than 50 nominations were submitted and more than 300 people attended the Awards Luncheon.

“Idaho has always been at the forefront of innovation, whether it is in the agriculture or computer technology industries,” said Julie Howard, spokesperson for the Idaho Department of Commerce Office of Science & Technology. “These companies all have interesting stories behind their innovations and prove that the pioneering spirit is alive and well in Idaho.”

As an industry-building event, the Idaho Innovation Awards program is successful thanks to the number of industry representatives who are involved in and support the program. A Steering Committee comprised of leaders from the technology, business and academic communities provides general oversight to the program. In addition, submissions are judged by a Selection Committee consisting of more than 40 leaders from private industry, government and higher education, many of whom are experts in the seven fields of invention represented.
