Peter A. Chavkin and Joel I. Papernik Named 2007 New York Area's Best Lawyers
Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., announced that Peter A. Chavkin and Joel I. Papernik were named best in their respective fields in the New York area by Best Lawyers in America, considered to be one of the preeminent referral guides to the legal profession.

Mr. Chavkin, a Member of the Litigation section and Mr. Papernik, a Member in the firm's Corporate section, were chosen through a confidential survey of the area's top attorneys who are asked to select those they consider to be among "the best" in their area of practice. The list was published in a special section of the July issue of New York magazine.

Mr. Chavkin heads up Mintz Levin's New York White Collar Criminal and Corporate Investigative Practice. He has more than 25 years experience focusing on white-collar criminal defense including high profile corporate and individual representation in securities, tax, government contract fraud, health care fraud and political corruption, physician and attorney disciplinary inquiries and other regulatory and enforcement matters. In 2006, he was named to the Best Lawyers in America as one of the top white collar criminal defense lawyers. Mr. Chavkin was also named a New York Super Lawyer that same year.

Mr. Papernik, a Member of Mintz Levins Policy Committee and co-chair of the firm's mergers and acquisitions practice, frequently guides acquisitions, collaborations and licensing transactions for clients in the biotechnology field. In addition to guiding numerous domestic mergers, acquisitions, dispositions and public offerings to successful conclusions, he has served as US counsel to several overseas firms in connection with public offerings and acquisitions in the United States. Mr. Papernik was also named to the 2006 New York Area's Best Lawyers, as well as a 2006 New York Super Lawyer which was published in a special edition of the New York Times.

Marshall, Gerstein & Borun Continues to Grow Litigation Practice With Addition of Donald Rupert
"Marshall, Gerstein & Borun, welcomes Donald W. Rupert as a partner. Previously with Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP, Rupert focuses on business counseling and litigation with emphasis on complex technology matters, including all phases of intellectual property litigation and technology transfer.

His more than 30 years of IP practice has provided him with a depth of experience and understanding and a sophisticated perspective on issues in the field. Don’s knowledge and expertise make him a tremendous asset to clients and the firm,” said Jeff Sharp, managing partner of Marshall, Gerstein & Borun. “Enforcing and defending IP rights are essential to all businesses in today’s markets. Rupert has handled nearly 100 intellectual property lawsuits in his career and has been lead counsel in jury and bench trials involving patent, copyright, trademark and related matters in federal and state courts throughout the country and overseas and has argued cases before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Seventh Circuit. His practice also includes negotiating domestic and international licensing and litigation settlements and corporate due diligence reviews and transactions in the intellectual property area. He has been the lead intellectual property attorney in licensing and corporate transactions that have a cumulative value of more than $15 billion. His experiences also include patent prosecution in the mechanical, electrical, computer, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries.

A frequent author and lecturer on intellectual property matters, professional ethics and trial techniques, Rupert also is an arbitrator of intellectual property disputes as a member of the American Arbitration Association Panel of Arbitrators. An Alumni Fellow of Washburn University, he is an advisor for the Trial Advocacy Center, Washburn University School of Law and a member of the board of advisors for DePaul University School of Law, Center for Intellectual Property. Rupert is also a deposition instructor for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and a member of the committee preparing patent jury instructions to be used in the federal district courts of the Seventh Circuit.

Prior to entering law school, Rupert was a research scientist for the U.S. Air Force. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Washburn University School of Law (1976), where he served on the board of editors for the Washburn Law Journal. Rupert earned his B.S. in chemistry from Miami University (1968). He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office."

MGB Welcomes New Technical Specialist
"Marshall, Gerstein & Borun announces the addition of Michael Allikian as technical specialist.

Michael Allikian’s practice focuses on the areas of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and medical devices and technology with an emphasis on molecular biology. Prior to joining Marshall Gerstein & Borun, he was a lecturer at the University of Chicago in undergraduate biology in addition to supervising research conducted by junior postdoctoral fellows and undergraduates. He also taught upper level undergraduate molecular biology at the University of Southern California.

Dr. Allikian received his Ph.D. in 2000 from the University of Southern California in Molecular Biology and a M.S. in Biology from Illinois State University in 1993."

Williams Joins Graydon Head & Ritchey LLP
(Cincinnati, OH) Graydon Head & Richey LLP announces the addition of associate attorney Tina M. Williams to the Firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Client Service Department.

Williams’ practice focuses on contract and business disputes, intellectual property and bankruptcy and creditor’s rights. Prior to joining GH&R, she was in-house counsel for an international software company focusing on licensing agreements, employment-related issues and copyright litigation matters.

Williams is a received her J.D. from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University and earned her B.B.A. in Finance & Marketing from the University of Cincinnati. She is an adjunct professor at Xavier University teaching Business Law and Ethics to graduate and undergraduate students. Williams is also a member of the Ohio State and Cincinnati Bar Associations.

Crowell & Moring Takes The 2007 American Bar Association’s EPA Climate Challenge
Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that the firm is participating in the 2007 American Bar Association-U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Law Office Climate Challenge. In an effort to conserve energy and resources, as well as reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants, the firm will undertake this important initiative designed by the ABA Section of Environment, Energy & Resources, in cooperation with the EPA.

"Crowell & Moring applauds both the American Bar Association and the EPA for developing this important initiative. We view environmental stewardship as both a business imperative and the right thing to do as a corporate citizen," said Steven P. Quarles, Crowell & Moring partner and co-chair of the firm's Environment & Natural Resource Group.

Crowell & Moring has already implemented a number of initiatives, such as using energy-saving lighting and increasing the use of office products with recycled content. To further the firm’s efforts, the following additional steps will be taken:

* Placing containers in conference rooms for glass, plastic and paper recycling.
* Eliminating or significantly reducing the use of styrofoam cups, plates, bowls and other tableware.
* Encouraging the use of such features as double-sided print and copy jobs to decrease the over-use of paper.
* Turning off all non-emergency lighting at the end of each business day.
* Increasing the awareness and use of our recycling program among all staff and attorneys

"Even a few simple changes can improve our environment. Each individual can make a difference. That is the message we want to communicate to our attorneys and staff as a goal of this project," said Frank Warno, Crowell & Moring's Director of Information Technology & Operations who is leading the firm's efforts on this important initiative.

Barnes & Thornburg LLP Attorneys Assist TASER International in Product Liability Defense
Barnes & Thornburg LLP partner John Maley recently assisted client, TASER International, in a Missouri product liability case that was voluntarily dismissed without prejudice.

It was the 52nd wrongful death or injury lawsuit that has been dismissed or where TASER obtained a favorable judgment. Maley is lead outside counsel for TASER, which is considered to be a market leader in advanced electronic control devices. Assisting Maley in the recent case were David Ballard of the Chicago office and Cathy Reed of the Indianapolis office.
